Anyways. I haven't read any of the manga - therefore - I won't be bothered by it.
And now, some mahjong crazyness: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6504943

another good episode this week. The storyline is getting together pretty well, can't wait until they actually play. I love the quote at the end "Those noobs are no match for me" LMFAO. I hope Shizuno will teach her a lesson
The preview shows Teru (Saki's sister) I wonder what is her role in this anime. We all know she's going to be the one of the strongest mahjong players, if not the best.

Glad to see the team assembled. Looks like the real mahjong kicks off in episode 3 - sure, the series is working at an accelerated pace, but it's not wasting time getting to the main event. And now that I've gotten to know Team Achiga better, I can say they're just as quirky as the team from the main series.

I was lukewarm for ep1, but this time I found tears springing to my eyes when their new coach entered the room and found her old club back in business. Very nice flow, and good characters. I was even happy that Yuuki Aoi dialed down her intensity a bit. She's still got that strength and color that sets her apart, but now the bones in my head won't shatter.

Achiga is located in the Nara prefecture, which is where they would play in the preliminaries. Teru attends Shiraitodai, which is located in Tokyo.
For reference, Kiyosumi, Kazekoshi, Tsuruga, and Ryuumonbuchi are located in the Nagano prefecture, located east of Nara (which is the gag before the OP this episode). (Technically it's northeast of Nara, but the subs said Shizuno was facing west, so I wanted to maintain the joke) (Quoted a post that was deleted, but thought the information would still be useful) Edit: Not worth a new post, but here's a friendly notice for those wanting to stay spoiler-free: it's best not to read the preview on the TV-Tokyo website. It's plenty spoilertastic that will ruin the fun of next week's episode. Thought I should warn everyone just in case.

When I finally decide to join this board, it's because of Saki, go figure.
Anyway, after watching the first two episodes I have to say it's impressive how well adapted the story is from the manga. Everything's there, and some small stuff got added as well. Speaking of that, episode 2 did a great job showing how traumatized Akado got because of her defeat at the hands of good ol' Kojaki, I did not get that feeling from her at all in this part of the manga, or any other for that matter, I'm genuinely impressed. Anyway, quick character opinion rundown: Shizuno is awesome, as cheerful as expected and excellent voice. Ako is surprisingly likable from the get go, I didn't pay that much attention to her in the manga until later, and now I'm wondering why. Kuro is just adorable, Yuu is ten times cuter that expected, and is it me or she looks completely different in the anime? And Arata is already doing a great job as the team's main provider of yuri. I really hope she gets more screen time in the anime, though it seems we're following the manga quite closely, but then again, with only 9 chapters of manga, some extra content will have to be added sooner or later, hopefully with much more yuri. Anyway, excelent adaptation, and next week is the moment we've all been waiting for. Last edited by relentlessflame; 2012-04-15 at 20:32. Reason: removed spoiler |

Yey, a Saki anime at long last. Just watched the first two episode and I must say that it has a great feel like the original.
Though, I felt that they should have added more mahjong battles. The thing that I enjoyed the most with the original Saki anime is the crazy probability defying mahjong battles. With unrelated badass special effects of course. The achiga cast seems fine but I'm missing the original cast. Hopefully they will get cameos or appear a lot in the future since Nodoka-chan is their goal after all. Btw, the no spoiler policy only applies to the non-animated parts of the original Saki manga and the Achiga manga right? The main anime series can be freely talked about since this is technically a sequel?

This episode felt longer than it should have, but it would be real enjoyment watching some epic mahjong battles in the coming episodes. Probably the only downside is that they re-used quite a number of old OSTs, but it does bring back nostalgia though.
The original cast appeared in the OP, does that mean they will play a part in this show somehow? |

So if this series is concurrent with the original Saki series, then ultimately, I am expecting this series to end right at the point they face Saki's and Nodoka's team.
Which, I hope, will lead to series 2 of Saki, continuing where it left off and eventually matching this series.

Oh, wow. They covered a lot more ground in the second episode than I initially expected without feeling rushed. In fact, I felt that an adequate amount of time was allotted for each important plot point. Good job really.
If they keep this up, there might even be some room for some anime original scenes (like in the prefectural tournament next episode perhaps?). Yep. And I see Miyanaga Teru in the preview. Next week is going to be great.

Funny thing. I took a very close look at the 25th episode of season 1 -- just to see if the Achiga girls are in there. Of course, that's an unreasonable inquiry - but at this point, based on season 1, I'm not eliminating the possibility just yet.

Well, it's technically a side-story/spin-off (and I suppose a prequel), and actually could (theoretically) be watched on its own. So for stuff from the original anime, I think you can post it, but using spoiler tags. Any future unanimated content can't be posted at all in this thread.
