@zero: You told me once that sword bits are extremely fragile. Would that also imply they are bad as handheld weapons?

Well it mostly has to do with the setsura claw being fixed. There was no mention of Yukihira changing so I assumed it'd be the same.
With this in mind, the Setsura's claw I think was compared to being on some level with Yukihira in effectiveness. He still displays the tendencies of a swordsman and more than that, a traditional kendo practitioner. The setsura claw takes away the use of one hand and forces him to take a one handed grip which isn't really normal in his skill repertoire. Setsura as a whole is basically a worse suicide button than barrier void attack so he's stuck swinging Yukihira around again. It's really kind of hard to explain but I just feeling the Setsura and the Yukihira clash with each other when it comes to combat style they provide. You can almost never use one in tandem with the other and Setsura which should fall under the category of a subweapon can't even be used as such because of its possibly hindering fixed state as well as its power drain that belongs on a main weapon. |

What use of sword bit as handheld weapon? Redundancy?
The most fragile part is drive system, that is, rocket nozzle and fuel tank. Once they're busted, the BITs is done. The main body itself is as strong as any blade, unlike standard BITs. As for Setsura, thats why I favor the anime version, it's not much larger than the 'normal' gauntlet and Ichika still able to use both hand if he wish. Also, trying to learn to draw illustration, the result...well....

Well, Sword BITs themselves are sort of secondary weapon, the true emergency weapon is Interceptor. Considering the type of joint BT have in my verse though....
Enemy use CQC blade Cecilia use Interceptor Interceptor failed, receive 10 damage I'm not sure about that, Ichika is clearly clenching it when use shield mode, once again, anime-only. Setsura can enlarge it's parts anytime in both anime and novel illustration, the claw actually unfold and grew longer prior to use, and the palm expands its volume to accomodate cannon barrel. This is why it's called fold-out armor.
