I agree, Sojirou does look like that dark haired guy in the flashback. Now that I think about it, Mika does somewhat look like Kyoshiro. Maybe it's just the purpleish hair color, I don't know. That really would be one messed up family. If Mika is related, it could explain how she came in "possession" of Kaon.

Setsuna is a weapon. The analogy that everyone uses is a sword. Swords can be used if the tip of the blade is broken as a defensive weapon. So, she just keeps taking the hits until an opening occurs. This is basically her battle strategy from the beginning. I still think that she is the weakest or second weakest AA.

Kaon and Tarurotte are majority offensive and prob the strongest so far with Kaon having the most skill which is why Mika is so pissed that Kaon lost to Setsuna. In a normal situation, Kaon should have wiped the floor with Setsuna.

So that guy was the grandfather? Okay, I can now buy the family resemblance.

I bet that Kyoshiro totally misunderstood what Kazuya said along with the vengeance thing and that's why he wants to destroy them all. I bet it's something like the AAs are so pure and innocent with massive potential for destruction that no one should come in contact with them which then begs the question..."Why did you guys make them in the first place?"

Tarurotte "broke" Setsuna. So, she may be the first one to go then....

Sojiro knows more then he's letting on and Kuu's the one with all the info, interesting....

Yet again we see more of Kuu's power. Just what the hell is it - and what did it do?

Have to admit that it was hard to accept what Kyoshiro had to say about the elimination of the Absolute Angels. I get of get the feeling that somewhere down the line, thats going to come crawling back around Setsuna. If this is truly what Kyoshiro plans to accomplish, then we'll probably get something along the lines of him having that chance with Setsuna.

& finally, being able to hear Sojiro's side of the story - i can start to like him more as a character. Its pretty easy to tell that he has feelings for Tarurotte, so it'll be interesting to see more on that down the line.

problem here is his attitude towards setsuna (or rather behind her back) ~ on the surface to her hes a kind caring person but in reality he hates setsuna to the core and hopes to destroy her...i really dont like this attitude and thankgod that kuu was able to do something about it instead of any usual heroine to just ignore the forecoming disaster ~ i wont mind if kyoshiro used setsuna as a shield for the sole purpose of protecting kuu but even then i would feel sorry for setsuna that kyoshiro's feelings are all for kuu ~ meaning she is protecting her rival :3 but the bottom line is...kyoshiro needs to fix is attitude towards the AA ~ maybe kuu can give him a good slapping

I'm starting to believe that even-numbered episodes do advance the story and let out revelations one by one while odd-numbered episodes are just long-winded, make no sense, or do not move the plot anywhere. I just hope I'll be wrong for the next episode.

There are several things that I no longer have doubts.

Spoiler:

1. If Kyoshiro's elder brother from his memories and Kuu's prince from her memories look the same, that means Kazuya is Kuu's so referenced prince.

2. Kyoshiro did admire his brother Kazuya, therefore, he holds no resentment or jealousy to Kazuya.

3. I did not become surprised learning that Sojiro is Kyoshiro's second oldest brother; call it intuition, that I knew the two of them had something familiar.

I did learn also that Sojiro is neither a wicked, malevolent guy nor has intentions to use the Absolute Angels for power. In fact, his stance towards Kyoshiro seemed to plead to his little brother that the Angels should be granted a place to exist and live happy.

From Sojiro's words I even start to doubt and get bad vibes about Kazuya. He might not had been how Kyoshiro idolizes him. If it is a caution on Sojiro's part warning Kyoshiro not to hold to the memory of Kazuya, then he may also means that Kazuya was not honest and gentle as Kyoshiro remembers him.

For theories about Kazuya's whereabouts and what really happened after the accident.

Spoiler:

Is there any concrete and physical proof that Kazuya truly died on that accident. Kyoshiro saw him for the last time when the lab was about to be blown into bits.

The flashback shows only when Kazuya goes and fades into the light, but the body is never shown disintegrating or disappearing.

From Sojiro's warning to Kyoshiro I might have starting to suspect that it wasn't an accident that triggered the explosion and the AA angels aren't at fault because of it.
Maybe someone who knew too well every secrets discovered from the research and had access to the facilities. I can only think of two suspects Kazuya or his (and both Kyoshiro's and Sojiro's) grandfather.

All I can say is that they also told lots about Kyoshiro's background and his personality. On whatever issue that matters about Kazuya he gets highly emotional and unstable on how to handle himself.

AAs prob weren't at fault. They were in those experimental chambers asleep like Kuu was probably. More than 1 of those things can be seen in that ep., but Kazuya was shown crying in front of Kuu's chamber. Maybe Mika and the rest of her team was originally involved with the research too and was away when the explosion occured. She does have scientists working on Kaon.

And another thing... What if some or all of the 4 AAs are actually failed experiments? We know that Waruteishia has to be one because she's "broken". Tarurotte has to be one because you can't control her. Kaon is being "improved" by Mika. Setsuna just became "broken". I mean if you're the real deal and have Absolute Recovery then you can't break or die, right? Maybe Kuu is the only "success" from that group.

Just finished watching the sub of episode 4. It still hasn't been confirmed by anyone that Kuu is an AA. Then again the merchandise section of Kyoshiro's website gives it away. I did find it interesting Kyoshiro didn't mention Kuu, and she didn't appear along with the others on his sword while telling Soujiro about the AA's he was going to kill. Then again, maybe cause she was standing right there.

Now that I know what Mika was saying... I'm more confused than I was before I saw the subs. She mentions Kaon is 'reborn', but she said it before putting that mark on her. I thought she meant that with the "tempering" she was doing to Kaon through the experiment. I actually laughed when she pulls Himiko over and tells her that Kaon only belongs to her, and no one else, and asks for Himiko to agree with it. Himiko was probably secretly thinking (yeah right, bitch) I don't think her memories of Himiko were erased at this point, but then again it's still a possibility since I have no clue what purpose that mark serves.

• Kazuya's hair!

Anyone besides me notice his hair difference in episode 4 compared to the OP? Kazuya in the flashback has long hair that's tied back. In the OP, we see him with short hair, and looking older. There's a back shot of him in OP, and you can see the ponytail has been cut. I betcha he's alive somewhere still.

Remember, we also have his appearence at the start of episode 01 with Kuu. Its still not clear if thats a dream or illusion of hers, though i am starting to believe that he's not dead. Just him walking into the light like that.. doesn't really make me believe he's dead. & there is also the fact that Sojiro knows a lot more then he's telling. :3

It would make for a dramatic part of the story, what with how much Kyoshiro looks upto him...

True, we only know about Kazuya from Kyoshiro's idolation and Kuu's dream. For being involved in human experimentation, he can't be all virtue and purity. Sojiro needs to open up more imo.

About the guy we see in the OP I think that's Kyoshiro. The red haze used in the animation makes it hard to tell what the real hair color is but from the hair style I'd say it's Kyoshiro.

As for Kuu, I'm beginning to think that she's not an AA since Kyoshiro didn't list her as one of them (but as someone else said, it might be b/c she's right beside him ). She definitely has to have some sort of major connctions to the AA; why else would Kyoshiro and Mika try to get her on their respective side? My theory right now is that whilst Kuu might not be able to summon a mech like the other AAs or manifest any of their powers, I think she might be a core or something and the AAs are linked to her. I wanna go a step further and say she might be able to combine their powers together but at this point that would just be mass speculation on my part.

And in the flashback when chibi Kyoshiro saw Kazuya crying in front of Kuu's(?) tank, I'm guessing he might be lamenting her fate for being involved in developing WMDs. Perhaps Kazuya used to talk to Kuu (if that is in fact her that we see) while she was in kept in suspended animation inside the tank. That would explain why she has dreams about her prince, because they're in fact memories of Kazuya. So far, I just can't see Kazuya being evil, but maybe I'm being too optimistic.

I don't think that anyone in the story is truly evil, but there is no doubt that nearly everyone is detrimentally, humanly flawed:

Really, Kazuya did, as a scientist, what any other scientist would naturally do with that kind of knowledge. Despite the lack of purpose the plot provides so far behind the concept of AAs, we can pretty much generally assume that Kazuya did what he believed was “right”, only, near the end, realizing and experiencing the negative extreme of the concept’s potential. (He likely foresaw it, due to him explaining “It’s something that no one should come in contact with”)

Then we have Kyoshiro, who really looked up to Kazuya. It would only be near natural with prior knowledge of human interaction that Kyoshiro would be highly vengeful regarding his brother’s “death” that supposedly occurred during the incident with the AAs that he would embark to destroy them. Although extremely twisted and cruel, his use of Setsuna is also understandable under “humanity’s rules”. If I really loved an older sibling, and he died to say, an alien, I may go as far as to using those to the point of near-slavery (or feign relations with some to get them to destroy each other) in order to destroy them if that is what it takes. Kyoshiro, however, being humanly scarred/twisted he is, goes as far as not only using Setsuna as a servant, but etching his commands with grace to make it seem as if he feels Setsuna as important to him (until the fourth episode, of course, when he becomes extremely agitated and therefore, direct).

Sojiro is also a case of human (mis?)understanding. He’s aware of what the AAs are capable of but is still very conscious and considerate toward their sentience (I think they still have some sort of sentience despite the Absolute Return bit, hence them feeling pain regardless of their regeneration ability in the midst of battle or torture). I also believe that Sojiro is caring for both his brother and Tarurotte despite the factors of opposing views and the presence of Kuu, as he did attempt to call back and retreat with Tarurotte in the midst of Kyoshiro’s agitation following their confrontation. I think, out of the male cast, Sojiro is may actually be the most humane. (Hey, he deserves a medal just for being able to tolerate Tarurotte in the first place xD)

Of course, there may and will likely be occurrences and conversations that will either complicate or disprove what I’ve considered, but I guess that’ll only make the plot more interesting and drive it farther. In fact, I almost want my speculation crushed, because the twists already executed have really made Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora more interesting and the plot more sensible.

Episode 4 was in my opinion, the best orchestration of plot I’ve seen so far, and I expect even greater executions in the future.

Yeah, as djc89 points out, Kuu's obliviousness and lack of logic is a big thorn in an otherwise pretty good series. But, I'm willing to dismiss it so far. I mean, as far as stupid female leads in anime are concerned, she ranks somewhere in the middle, and she is very cute, so I can't really hate her.

Holy crap, plot twists! This ep answers some of the questions, but still leaves a handful answered. But that's fair enough, provided they get to them later. One of the big concerns that I've had since the second episode which sort of came out to a certain extent in this ep is that

whatever powers Kuu has could potentially lead to some pretty trite DEMs down the road. I mean, the fact that Kyoshiro wants her to tag along on their journey means that her powers must play some sort of key in his plan, meaning they must be able to trump whatever the rest of the AAs have. Which means that she must be hella powerful. It's just a recipe for lots of DEMs as far as I'm concerned, unless they're terribly careful with how they write the script.

I think this show craps all over KnM up to this point. It's got its flaws, but they're no where near as prominent as KnM's and it has been very intriguing up to now. Good stuff so far.

Kuu's not dumb as seen by her actions in ep. 14. She demonstrated the ability to come to an independent decision based on 2 conflicting viewpoints. She's sheltered and innocent with an unexplained inferiority complex.

If you think of Kyoshiro on the level of a prince, famous actor or a rock star in our terms and Kuu as a regular impressionable 16 yo, then you'll get it. To Kuu, Kyoshiro is someone unobtainable in reality that plopped down into her existence and actually wants to associate with her. She has a real chance to end up with Prince Charming and a life of luxury at the end of all this. (Classic fairy tale mode plot.) Most girls at her school would trade places with her in a split second and few of them (even in reality) would have cared one bit for the plight of Setsuna. Despite how Kyoshiro treats Setsuna, it's pretty obvious that on one level he's falling for Kuu. When that becomes full blown, Setsuna becomes a third wheel or worse if Kuu activates to be the most powerful AA or something else off the scale in terms of offensive magnitude. (She has Tarurotte's independence and greater than Kaon's power level added with a degree of purity. Kind of like being closest to an ideal version of an "angel".) Kuu = Kuromi imo.

Add into it memory loss and it's all understandable. (Maybe that also has something to do with Kazuya.)

Those bedsheets were obviously dirty. (It's an abandoned school. Dust and cobwebs were everywhere. Cockroaches were in the room.) Her uniform was probably the cleanest things there imo.

Stockings do not make for good bandages as they are made to expand and not to keep their original shape very well. Also, they tend to be airy so that the blood can leak faster than with a sturdier cotton blend imo.
