Those are great scans! I love the mangaka's style for Higurashi. Especially Yutori Houjou's. ^^ The first two are especially beautiful.

What do you mean? They fit in quite nicely.

Expand the image, and you can see the images used overlap the borders of the lanterns. The most prominent overlap is the image of Rena in the center lantern.

It's on purpose, you should escpecially be able to see Rena's ribbons in the other lanterns.
