The new adaptation is scheduled to last around 100 episodes, it would seem. After the current episode is when things start heaten up.
The old anime adapted out ten volumes in 46 episodes, which is not even a hundred chapters of the manga. It felt tedious at times, the music was easily the most memorable part. |

I have mixed feelings about the animation suddenly switching to CGI during Dai's fight against the armor.
There were some awkward moments, like the grandpa taking the time to explain how Dai beat the armor instead of rushing to cure the dying princess.

Not a bad episode. For a training episode it actually went pretty well. Was kind of nice seeing Dai getting stronger. It was quick and thankfully for that reason it didn't feel like it was taking too long. Heck things should be continuing to advance quickly with how this one ended.
Plus kind of works anyways since Dai is pushing himself. Can't afford to take a slow route. Not if he wants to help the people he cares about before it is too late. And quite literally he can't take the slow route with the threats heading his way...

Well, RIP Avan. You could certainly see it coming, but at least he gave everything he had right till the end. A frustrating thing that even with his last gambit he couldn't take that guy out. But, I suppose blowing yourself up rarely works in this kind of show. Sure, if Dai could have activated his powers sooner then maybe they could have gotten out of there alive. But, with something like that it will take time before he even has any concept of what it is much less being able to switch it on at will.
Now the journey begins. They need to stay ahead of this guy until Dai can get strong enough to beat him decisively. Although it might be helpful that this guy is obsessed with going after Dai since that should keep his army from focusing exclusively on conquering.

It took the old anime around eight episodes to get to this point, the pacing in the new adaptation is miles better in comparison. And the animation quality is outstanding, as is the narrative. They even showed in this episode a very early appearance of a particular character who won't make her debut til approximately one year after.

Suppose he had to die that quickly since if he completed the training Dai could just stomp the last boss within a week .
