Me at work
|
Hey,first I'd like to thank you for taking the time to do this, when I learned about this it really made my day.
I do have a problem though: when I select the "integrated" video output I only get the audio and no video, this happens on all the type of files I've tried (mkv,mp4,avi) however everything works fine with both "As separate window" outputs. I have a 1.8GHz G5 imac running Tiger (10.4.11) I have tried playing the same videos on another identical imac but with Leopard (10.5.4) as its OS and there the "integrated" video output works fine. So I was wondering if anyone else with Tiger was having this problem. |

This problem only seems to happen to me on mplayer extended, other compilations don't have this problem. Nothing in the logs indicate anything changes when I close the video window and try to open another file, this is what I see in my console log,
Code:
8/29/08 12:07:18 AM [0x0-0x13d13d].hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended[2008] Failed to get value of property 'sub_demux'. 8/29/08 12:07:18 AM [0x0-0x13d13d].hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended[2008] Failed to get value of property 'sub_file'. Also I have a bigger problem that really bothers me, when watching videos in mplayer regardless of compilations is that video files seem to stutter which gets worse as the file progresses. I don't get the same stuttering problems when watching in quicktime. |

I find kind of annoying when you are running something from window to full screen; when you are going out of full screen the window moves from a corner to the center.
Would it be possible if someone explained the differences in the video thing? Which one would be better to run? |

Awesome! VLC was lagging like hell, and other builds were on strike playing the original audio. Extended does the trick, and awesome GUI as well. Thanks so much! |

There's a problem with tiger and the new threaded integrated video. Not sure what's the problem but I'll try to figure it out.
@Pandar I cannot reproduce your problem. Closing the video window anyhow and then opening another video reopens the window without problem. The two lines you get in the console are not related. Also, I cannot tell what's causing your stuttering. Did you try playing the files with the command line? Code:
/Applications/MPlayer\ OSX\ Extended.app/Contents/Resources/External_Binaries/mplayer.app/Contents/MacOS/mplayer -fontconfig ##Drag your movie here## Does the window always come from the corner when exiting fullscreen for you? I've noticed that too but it only happens occasionally. There are actually two different video outputs: Core Video and Quartz. Quartz is the graphics layer of OSX and the "quartz" video output driver directly interfaces it to render the video. Core Video is a newer framework that simplifies video output by interfacing with quartz for you. So basically "quartz" is the older output driver that implemented a lot of the logic itself what was later taken care of by OSX with Core Video. "macosx" is the newer driver that uses Core Video, introduced with (and since used by) QuickTime 7. And then there are two flavors of the Core Video "macosx" driver. An external one (the same one you get if you use mplayer on the command line) or an integrated one. In case of the integrated, the mplayer part only writes the prepared frame to shared memory and MPlayer OSX then reads that frame and uses Core Video to display it.

How would I go about running that command line? I'm new to OS X sorry, tried googling it but didn't get any good results.
edit: I also figured a solution to my opening/closing problem, using command + p to show player will make my player show up again, but it won't show up again on default |

It always happens when I'm going from full screen to windowed; the dialog goes to normal size and it always comes from the lower-left corner to the center.
As for the video thing, I was referring to: Framedrop: off, soft, hard Deinterlace: off, ffmpeg, blend, blend sharp, median Postprocessing: off, default, fast, high quality The values I got selected are the ones in italic. I run with an iMac 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo with 1 GB of RAM, btw. Oh, and the way I exit full screen is usually by pressing command+1 (which is the command for normal size). I never use escape because it closes the dialog. |

@Pandar
Ah, sorry I misunderstood you. I was thinking you were taking about the video window and not the player controls. Yes, that doesn't get reopened if you close it. I'll look into it for the next version. The command line is called Terminal in OSX and you can find it in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. If you've copied MPlayer OSX Extended to your applications folder, you should be able to past the first part of what I posted above into the command line and then drag&drop a movie to the window. Finally hit enter to execute the command. @Ryoujin Ah, that's looks different from what I saw and definitely not how it should. ^^ I use f to switch from/to fullscreen and the the video zooms in/out just like in quicktime. Framedrop: Only needed when you're computer is too slow to play a video. Sets how mplayer catches up if it's behind on decoding frames. Off tries to play all frames and will result in speed-ups when it tries to catch up. Soft discards some frames that are safe to leave out and makes the video jump to catch up. Hard is more aggressive as it will drop more frames and may cause distortion. Deinterlace: Deinterlacing is needed for interlaced sources like DVDs or video captures. Most videos on the internet are either not interlaced or already deinterlaced. This is a science by itself. There are many different approaches with different advantages and problems. Here are some comparisons for the mplayer filters: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...ch/004815.html http://guru.multimedia.cx/deinterlacing-filters/ Postprocessing: I think the options speak for themselves. You'll have to see for yourself if you see any difference between the options and if it makes up for the speed loss .

It happened again with another episode. I'm watching all these from a hard disk connected by Firewire, but I've never had such issues until now. The file is a MKV, and I've seen it before as well.

What's crashing is not the MPlayer OSX Extended GUI but MPlayer itself.
Try to delete the ".fontconfig" and ".mplayer" folders in your home directory (they're invisible so you either need to use the terminal or the goto folder finder command). An additional debug build of mplayer would probably be a good idea. Like this, there's no way to tell what exactly is going wrong.

I also deleted both files that you mentioned and it didn't make it work either. I'm not sure if this has something to do: Code:

Strange. There's something wrong with your fontconfig configuration.
Try deleting and redownloading MPlayer OSX Extended to check if the fontconfig config got corrupted. Also check your subtitle scale and encoding preferences and check the MPlayer.log to see if it gets applied correctly.

No luck. I redownloaded, trashed the old one and placed the new copy, trashed the preferences and .fontconfig and .mplayer, still having the issue:
This is how my preferences look like: I noticed that there's a file called .config in my home directory, should that one be deleted as well? As for logs Code:

There should be no need to explicitly set an encoding and font if you don't have to.
Tough there seems to be a problem with the subtitle options. MPlayer actually gets passed a -ass-font-scale of 0.04, which is why the subs are so small. With 100% set in preferences the font scale should be 1. I guess selecting a font and encoding somehow reset the faulty value.

Thought I'd chime in with a bug report as well. I'm experiencing what I believe is the same issue as prior reported - audio playback but no video. This only occurs when MPlayer Extended is set to use Integrated Video as video output, the separate video window views (both Quartz and CoreVideo) work fine. Problem occurs on rev6 - not on the older rev3 I have kicking around.
System - Core2Duo, 10.5.4 - yep, Leopard issue as well. Not really a problem when watching video in fullscreen - but I do a lot of my watching in the corner of the monitor with 'float on top' set, so it makes it a bit more difficult to pause etc, considering the controls are not connected with the video. -Andiyar

Unfortunately, MPlayer OSX Extended doesn't work for me. I'm upgrading from the last Mac OS X build previously linked-to on the "How to play fansubs with your Mac." thread; I deleted the contents of the .mplayer folder and removed the old version with AppZapper before installing. Whenever I try to play a video file, any video file, the app crashes. I'll get a little clip of the audio of the video file, but the video itself doesn't appear; the GUI flashes white briefly and then crashes. When I re-open the app after this happens, it just won't play files; it'll appear to open the file, but won't play it at all, closing the file almost instantly. Deleting the .mplayer and .fontconfig folders and the .plist only resets this problem.
When asked to report the error to Apple, I am given the following: Spoiler:
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you! |

Impressive work on MPlayer OS X. I was using mplayer directly from the command-line, but it looks like I can finally move forward and use a modern solution.
There's just one thing that I think it's lacking. When the video goes to fullscreen, it doesn't use the entire display. The top menu keeps appearing. Here's an example: Is it possible to change the fullscreen behaviour so that the top menu also disappears? |
