I just realized this but considering that Fuuma is a ninja as well it makes sense that she said that she is interested in Akari herself. You could say all chess pieces are ready, things just need to get in motion now.

Aria AA is actually a pleasant surprise. I remember the original series being quite dull and...well, annoying thanks to Aria's tsundere antics.
But frankly, seeing Aria as a competent senpai actually made me like her. Yeah...never thought I'd say that. I call it the Misaka Syndrome. You take the tsundere away from her love interest and she actually becomes likable. Now for Akari. She's clumsy, yet she has some inkling of competence. She's the type of character you just can't help but root for. I love it. The dynamic between Aria and Akari is also really nice. It's weird but it does a really good job of showing off a mentor-student relationship as well as a older sibling-younger sibling relationship. As for the yandere, Shino...she's fun. Obsessive, but fun. Honestly, this looks like a keeper.

The first episode left me kinda raising my eyebrows mostly because of how wonky the action in the dream sequence and the boat chasing scene were. Its the second episode that met up my expectations that were kinda low. So far it's average, mostly because of aforementioned first episode's F ups.

Episodes 1 and 2:
Good start for this spin-off, but it looks so different from J.C.Staff's adaptation back in 2011. While Akari is capable of doing ninja skills when she's being attacked, seems that she has a long way to go should Akari want to reach Aria's skill level! On the other hand, Akari's friend Shino is obviously harboring some yandere tendencies. |

Aria not acting like a Tsudere at all is a surprised to me. Her personality is a lot better on this show so far. This is how she should have been in the original, just a total badass and a great mentor. The animation and design exceeds the original. I haven't seen episode 2 yet, but I hope it keeps up. It's already looking better than the original which is odd for spinoff show.

This has really been a great chance for Aria to show her good qualities more. She doesn't have to be the jealous tsundere that the main show basically forces her to be, gets to show her reasonable side more. This is a character who accumulated a massive capture rate and list based on her skills. Heck I liked the subtle way she helped out Akari here. Bought her a bit of time and gave her a hint. Didn't solve the whole thing for her, just gave her enough. Very nicely done .
Akari herself is pretty curious. She does have some nice skills there, but also clearly some serious trauma in her background. Maybe that is why she has such a poor record or there is some other reason she doesn't/can't show her true skill level. Also...ummm where did the dogs go in the second half of that fight ? Shino.....wow. Yeah, I'm kind of with Aria. A friend pulls that on me and I get a restraining order.

Regarding Akari's ninja skills, looking back after watching episode 2, I now realize how she managed to grab those car keys in the blink of a second. Those are some damn fast reflexes, though apparently, they're useless towards someone who is more skilled and faster overall. Still, she has a lot of potential, and Aria must have sensed that, too, as I see no other reason why she decided to make her an Amica, and not one of the other 20 students she is said to have rejected. And I too would remove Shino from my life forever if she tried to kill me. I've ditched friends for less than that, so Akari is either a very forgiving girl, or a masochist. Aria's reaction to this was very understandable to me.

Aria is a person who gives people equal chances at proving themselves, so we'd also need to know the personalities of the other students and the results of the test if Aria ever granted them one, we're kind of lacking too much context on why the others were rejected/not considered to determine if her acceptance of Akari is odd or not. And well, Akari did save Aria and technically managed to pass the test however briefly, so I'd assume that also plays a part in why Aria decided to allow her to try and truly become her Amica. There's also Aria's own curiousness about who Akari is, so while I don't deny she might have sensed some potential in Akari, it's likely a reason amongst others why things turned out that way.

Episode slightly off-putting since I don't fancy the yandere traits that much, but the insight we have on Akari's abilities make for a nice break amidst all that so it was enjoyable.
That being said I fear what lies ahead if the Amica Contract of Hell comes into play; Aria'll be in for loooong trip.
