what the hell are those designs lol Why does Vash look like that? Why does Meryl look like that!?
Vash and Meryl look like a step down both face-wise and outfit-wise.

Why does Wolfwood have a lollipop !?

Despite this trend of running out of decent stuff to animate and trying to pander to the older audience by remaking old anime, Di Gi Charat still seems to be the only one that actually seems to give a shi* and use the original VAs

@serenade_beta

At least Fruits Basket succeeded...but the old one was unfinished...so it doesn't really count lol.

Trigun Stampede's producer basically confirmed at the recent Anime NYC convention that this new Trigun is being done as an adaptation, not a recreation.
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/con...-panel/.191900

Keyword here is they were inspired by how "...Marvel and DC's regular(ly) reboot...their superhero characters (for modern viewers)".

Some people believe the intention is for new Trigun to adapt the source manga in a different new way - similar to how Hollywood comicbook movies reinterpret/make different takes on the source comic characters (ex. Aztec Namor from Wakanda Forever). They are not following the usual recreation method used by Japanese anime standards that the anime must be a 1:1 recreation of its source material.

I can see why this would be jarring for anime fans.

As it is...I just don't love the new designs .

Confirmed useless, then. Please don't follow the way superhero films do it. Aztec Namor is cool but I don't want not-adaptations in anime.

Weren't some original Trigun characters also based on Western characters? I don't remember well but at least Vash has shown that classic fake overreaction in one of the trailers.

Meryl is sort of the same character but seems about 4 years younger than the original in both appearance and behavior.

The CG wasn't terrible, it has potential, but it's still not avoiding the uncanny valley.
