Given Newtype powers in Gundam, a Newtype being given a nickname of witch wouldn't surprise me. Though it doesn't necessitate it, kinda like how Cornelia from Code Geass had the "Witch of Britannia" nickname despite not having any powers at all and is just a good pilot and commander.

Can’t believe it’s been 7 years since the last real TV show. Hopefully it means they’ve had more time to create a concept that works… Gundams been without direction for decades now and while IBO was great it didn’t do much to reverse the momentum.

WfM coming in October via the Nichigo timeslot. Quote:
The UC timeline has a clear direction of doing anime that took place "Next 100 years" after UC 0100. And each AU timeline has its own direction.

I'm more interested in the fact that they revive this anime timeslot after JNN ended it in April 2017. They are pretty confident, eh?
This could become either the new IBO or the new AGE. Needless to say I'm hoping for the former and not the latter .

Hataway's Flash movie (which is fantastic) has rekindled my interest in Gundam so I'm excited for a new series.

Creative direction for the franchise as a whole. Not throwing stuff at the wall to see what stick with their last bunch of AU attempts, not just rehashing stuff for older gen xers with fan service and adaptations of stuff from 40 years ago, but an actual direction that takes the franchise to the future, like it used to do. Maybe the Netflix movie is it, we will see.

You need to define the standard first. Also, you do remember that "keep making UC TV series" is a commercially-dead concept since Victory Gundam, right? Hence the AUs. Do you prefer the Gundam franchise to die along with Victory?

You can see from Wing and SEED that decision of 'bunch of AUs' is better in sense of expanding mecha catalogue and audience. If you stick with one era for long time, you're bound to follow mecha design limitation and atmosphere set by the initial series as you can see from Unicorn list of enemies. There will be no unrealistic Wing Zero and Deathscythe Custom, gritty Barbatos, physically fit minimalist Celestial Being, martial artists like God and Build Burning or great homage like Tryon 3; no Heero, Setsuna, Sei, Meijin and Sekai because every MC should be following Amuro and Char footsteps and their era tense, depressing atmosphere. If that era is well-received and there's interest to see more of world-building and mecha catalogue, spin-off it is. I don't see this model as bad because not only it solved sales (the most important aspect) but also allowing the team to tackle various theme without ruining what OG told. Leaving the issue only to "can we got good writers for it?" for the spin-off LOL. Its not like this kind of decision have no challenge, pushing idea to make it unique in comparison to past series (AU) is a notable hurdle I didn't want to claim creative direction is doing terrible job.
