I have high hopes for this. It was very madoka-like except madoka seems competent this time and with the way the world and their enemies are drawn. Now i just need them to bring on the suffering and psychological aspects and this could be very good.

While I did bring up the M-word I genuinely don't hope for the whole "ooo! Darkenss and despair!" thing because that's been done now.
I was totally focussed on the surreal aspects of the other world. I found the things they're fighting kind of had a Jim Woodring vibe to them in some ways. I like it. So far it looks like another of those dark horse shows you don't expect to like. |

Eps 1 & 2
In any event I found myself surprised by the content of the series. I was not expecting that. The similarity to Madoka is in fighting surreal tech looking beasties (they remind me of tame Giger creations somehow) in alternate dimensions. But this alternate dimension is somehow more blurred semi-impressionistic or watercolor painting fairy-realmed rather than Madoka's Dali-horror genre cross. So the similarity is only in part as far as I can tell - almost a "good fairy" fantasy genre based world vs. a "bad fairy" sci fi genre? I also feel like the story will get dark. It is even possible that one or more of the club members will somehow turn traitor - though whether for "right" reasons (i.e. the folks behind transforming the hero club are actually bad guys) or for the "wrong" reasons (i.e. the girls are deceived or mind controlled or fall into fear or despair and then transform or what not). For myself I like the series as a whole, and as long as the tragic or dark side of things is not badly handled this could be quite good. After two eps will tentatively commit. I guess at the moment I am not as emotionally engaged asI expected to be before it aired, but I am more curiously, intellectually interested to see what they will do with this. Oh yes - also liking the...erm..."Middle Eastern" themed bgm? Or something like that. It quietly stood out and made its presence known in an unobtrusive way. Speaking of audio, the OP and ED are not bad either.

This show doesn't scream "Depressing! Suffocating! Grimdark" like the aethstics of Madoka, but still something feels off in this setting. The fact that the colourful alternative world withers constantly and that timer might bring some major drama later on, probably a notion of winning the battle but lost the war.
but yes, something feels quite off here, in the good way. Not yet a standout of this season so far, but I expect it to build upon each episodes and escalate quickly.

There is an "emotional background tone" of something both foreboding, unnerving and...hidden, almost lying in wait and knowing it can't be seen, maybe? But it doesn't feel "angsty" or "suffocating", as you said. It is...it is almost as if it were in a liquid state? Like a...erm...as strange as it sounds, a "malevolent, sentient and intelligent pool of water" at the deepest and darkest roots of a mountain? Sorry the analogies or images are not working at conveying the feeling here.

that poor girl...no wonder shes in a wheelchair if she has to carry those things around...
Seriously though the madoka vibes is so damn strong with this anime the enemies and the place they fight them is almost identical to madoka, im bracing myself for the despair, that will be the time i drop this. dont want to watch a carbon copy of madoka

This show is the surprise one. I thought it will be normal CGDCT anime but it turned out to be magical girl show. LOL
I also sense that some kind of drama is coming but I don't think it will reach the level of Madoka. Something I noticed, after they destroyed the core of those monsters something seems to charge up on their flower signs (look at 20.25 and 20.52 on ep.2). However, they didn't show the charge-up after Tomo defeated the last monster. Look like the flower sign can only hold up to 5 charges (right now it's 2/5), let see what will happen when it's 5/5.
