Please don't make this discussion sound like that plot point in Dramacon when an American fanboy dissing an OEL(Original English Language) manga as not manga since it was not made in Japan while the MC, an OEL manga author, calmly explains to him that manga doesn't have to be made in Japan to be call manga.

the art style feel pure anime for me, unlike Avatar: The Legend of Korra which at first look I know it western animation, I thought RWBY was a japanese anime when I watched Red trailer, only to find it a western-made anime.
in other word I consider this a true anime, made in japan or not.

an anime is a "word" to describe a animated work of japan ok?
I also thought it was a "anime" but seeing that it came from the USA but yes those who think this is a "anime" are right, those who think it is not an anime will be right, this is a point of view of a person to another The most important is that this series please the largest number because personally I find works of Monty is great and I look forward to every episode!

Let me try to apply your logic to Disney animation, which is obviously American and should be called cartoons. But I actually know a fellow animator who worked in Japan, he didn't work on anime, instead he worked on "Winnie the Pooh and Friends" among other cartoons. Not sure if its a surprise to anyone, but yes Disney makes cartoons in Japan, and I don't think anyone would refer to any of these Japanese Disney animations as "anime". The animation industry is more globalised than most people think. Alot of anime, be it films or games, have their work out sourced to places in South East Asia and Korea. In fact as much as two thirds of the world's animation production is made in Korea, its the world's largest animation sweatshop. Even the latest seasons of Cartoon Network's most popular "Adventure Time" has the main bulk of production processed there. In this globalised world, where Hollywood movies, Disney animations are no longer made just in America, anime as well do not belong to just Japan.

well, when you watch this, you can get 'anime' vibe from it...
the concept and background is simple.... at least, we can enjoy magnificent battle animation from here the voice acting isn't horrible as well... |

I wish I could watch episode 1 from somewhere else. The stream site is too laggy for me...
Anyway, the action is really great and well designed characters. Personally, Weiss is the most appealing to me in both look and weapon.

And for simple backgrounds, that just scream budget issues not "anime" issues in general. Shinkai titles do not have simple backgrounds. And.. if you watched Korean animation and anime you could immediately tell the difference. Saying its anime is just a marketing strategy to get more people to watch and buy. We can call it "OEL animation" which is technically what it is.

It's anime enough to be on this board for me. This whole discussion about being anime or not is a waste of time and breath.

Whether people think it's anime or not, Monty himself said that he wants people to know that he made this so that it would be considered an anime (Not in those exact words) Meaning he created RWBY with the intentions and thought of it being an anime the entire time. I myself will respect his wishes and see it as an anime (I was going to see it as an anime anyway if he didn't say that) and continue to support his work and decisions.

It's the most recent recognizable product to Western anime audiences.

"Anime" is a cultural product from Japan just like "manga" is a cultural product from Japan. We can have an "international anime" section for all the non-Japanese businesses trying to jump on the "anime" bandwagon.
