The ending to this series, ever since the day the site went live, was announced to be performed by PASSPO☆, an apparently flight-attendant themed group of singers I've never heard of. ("Don't call me a waitress!") The OP is by Yuki Kanno.
So, I wanted to know how PASSPO☆ sounded, to get an idea of their music before the show went live. I know AKB and I know MomoClo, but I don't know these girls. So here's a short version of their latest single. (Not the anime's ending. That's "Truly".) I can get behind this. Also, if it isn't clear, music is a vital part of a series' identity for me. Nice looking promo. Jörmungandr looks like my favorite character from the preview - boyish and the cause of much slapstick - but this will depend on the interaction of all three (and Syrup.) For a series that was announced very shortly before its airing, I'm getting pretty excited for it.

Leviatan 01 - There's No Way My Dragon and/or Crisis Can Be This Cute
The runtime's a few minutes shorter than I'm used to for anime. Still long enough to be considered a full length series, but only a few minutes off the mark. So far, I can tell it's a simple European-esque fantasy series, but it was entertaining. Since the first episode was mostly exposition, I'm going to need to wait until next week to see what the show really wants to do. Syrup's a little troublemaker. Even if her intentions are good (saving the world usually is), she may be a bigger threat to the mission than the bugs. The three girls are all cute, and their personalities mesh well enough. I like the OP, and the ED's pretty okay too. Anime based on a cell phone trading card game have surprised me before, so let's see where this one goes. |

Enjoyable little trifle. Not much story, but the episode seemed to fly by (and not only because it was four minutes shorter than normal).
Two things struck me most. First the voices: lovely sound from Hayami Saori, Taketatsu Ayana, Kitamura Eri, and particularly Hanazawa Kana. Second, all those pointed ears.... This show about the (mis)adventures of a group of not entirely skilled sprites reminds me of the same director's Renkin 3-kyuu Magical? Pokahn (2006). Not necessarily a promising comparison, but I enjoyed this first episode. Cuteness abounds.

Also, I really don't think it being better than the previous Gonzo shows (as far as first episode impression goes, I suppose) is saying much. |
