I was wondering too. My guess at present is that her dad and mom married after she was already born, perhaps recently, as in the past few years, and the mother is either dead or is missing. Probably Matoi resembles her mom in her new father's eyes a bit, too.

I liked it.
Seems like there's a lot of mahou shoujos this season. I liked the energy in this one. The relationship between Matoi and her father does seem scandalous in ways Calls him by his name so looks like maybe not her birth father, there is a picture of them together when she was youth. But I could still see it happening according to personality if her mother married him when she was 5 or something. The father said he's only been in town for 3 months, but Matoi looks very settled in with many aspects of the town, so maybe he was too busy with work a lot of times. Also found it interesting that she does act like a wife in front of him in certain scenes.

I don't think he is her biological father per se, but I do think that she looks like her mom, there is still some distance between them (biological fatherhood being different) and it may be possible that the dad knew her mom was a exorcist, and may even have felt himself responsible for her death or going missing. Remember how he mentioned he was a coward?

Nice to see more excellent work from White Fox.
I loved the visual creativity and range here. The Engrish at the beginning was hilarious. The soldiers were drawn perfectly. For a moment, I thought I was watching a GI Joe animated movie, lol. The action scenes are just vibrating with great kinetic energy. Everything feels so alive and chaotic and high-energy. I love how diverse the cast is, age/gender-wise, and also personality-wise. Solid blend of comedy with drama with flashy action. About the only thing I didn't like was... Quote:
Still, that aside, excellent first episode! HandofFate is right that this is becoming an interesting season for mahou shoujo shows. The three I've seen are all pretty different from each other.

I started watching this, but the first few minutes didn't appeal to me. It doesn't sound like the last few minutes would appeal to me either. I'll keep an ear open, but this may not be the sort of show I'd hoped it might be.

If nothing else we're getting good variety from the mahou shoujo shows this season. Which is nice considering how many there are .
That did get a bit weird with the father. Although understandable. Even she was confused and seeing her mother's face in that reflection. Though if they can get that cleared up...that'd be good . Let's hope they can steer clear of any potential romance there though. Kind of interesting as well how utterly different Matoi and the other girl appear in their abilities. Hers seeming very mystical in nature, while the other seems much more magi-tech.

Episode 1
The engrish in the start.... yikes. Some sentences made zero sense. I see why they bothered to sub the english too because in some cases the english parts aren't subbed. So there are these monsters or whatever coming into the normal world searching for something. That something could possibly be the mahou shoujo making things like the one Matoi got by accident after her dad was knocked out. The two blonde women seen in this episode are part of some organization or something which is dealing with these unknown beings. And Matoi's mother could have possibly been a mahou shoujo because for one, Matoi looked like her after becoming one (she did look awfully a lot like her mother before too but anyway) and the jewel or whatever fell from her father. Even if it was from her it would still make sense. The jewel could probably have been a momento from her mother. And why was Matoi calling her father "Shingo-kun"? After seeing the family picture, I almost thought that she was his wife, but then I remembered that the little loli said that he's Matoi's papa. He's your father, you don't call him by his name. I don't think he's a stepfather or anything because of how close they looked especially in the ending sequence. The episode was pretty okay overall. It had some funny moments too. Judging by how they tried to push some comedy in between when the monster man or whatever was attacking them in the end, I'm thinking this'll probably be predominantly a bit towards the lighthearted side and will probably show the real serious bits towards the end. I'll give it another episode or two to see if the characters grow on me or not. Unless I get more better animes for this day in which case I'll drop this sooner. |

so what kind of reflex that Shingo had after getting beaten up by a super demon possessed person that he woke up mistook his daughter who in her magical girl from now resembles his lost wife that he grope her boobs?
or he was trying to hug her from behind that he unintentionally groped her in the process because he was either too emotional at that time to notice or due to trauma of getting beaten up in the first place? who knows, he maybe just really missed his wife, even Matoi herself pointed out that she looks like her mom in that form when she saw her own reflection. |

No, Shingo did not grab transformed Matoi like that on purpose.
He sounded like he was crying. With Matoi's father, Yuma's father and the detective assistant awkward confrontations with this foreign woman, wait is she a foreigner? Somehow I don't think I can take this woman seriously way more than all these men whose just met her. Yuma, she not that "Yuma" that I know of, but still can't take her seriously the same as the other. |

I read the summary, thought it was going to be about simple life of a Miko girl trying to have a regular life but end up as a Miko anyways. (something like Kumamiko....)
Then watched ep 1, the beginning surprised me with the Nanoha-ish style of fighting. (magic, technology, transformations, action battles, etc etc) PS: the dad's a perv, first thing he does when he see someone resembling his dead wife... is to grope their boobies... PSS: feels like this would have been extremely more fun if the Loli was the one that got the special powers... I would watch the entire series just for the hyper chunni Loli. Must add that I really enjoyed the audio/visual combo of Matoi's transformation....
On the off chance that anyone might have overheard something about it, does anyone know what the name of the track/song/whatever was being played then?
