-_- nope, that's not what a I mean.
If you know the story that's why I said "oh Sh8t" because at first look you see girls. And if you remember when madoka was first introduce it looks like your typical magical girls but knowing gen its not. For people who don't know gen then the first impression is cute girls and moe girls. And even in few second of madoka and some part of it are considered moe before withc goes nom nom on someone's head. The same can be said on his other works. The one you mentioned F/Z has those sister tohsaka and the one mentioned before Saya no Uta. For those who knew the game. They knew the nature of it. But if you only look at Saya. You can only see a girl with black hair in white one piece blouse which is so cute. ..................... well if you don't know what she really is.

No worries
though I wonder if I really did make my message clear for someone pointing it out that I don't know what I'm talking about But I did make it as simple as it is. Cute moe girls at first look and you can get the idea of its story if not for the name Gen Urobushi as its screenplay you won't suspect anything. It also reminds me of symphogear in someways when I first look at the girl.

I said sypmhogear because of the twin tails. And from what Saya did you mean? did you mean Saya from Saya no Uta? indeed she has green armor which reminds you of Saya's dark shade green hair. But Saya's hair is straight with 2 pointed in sides and is wearing a simple white dress.

You know the way I see it the prettier, cuter and more lady like a character design looks in what is clearly an action focused series (and I assume this cause of the armor she appears to be wearing on the promo art as much as I do because it's Toei) the more I am prone to imagine them as some sort of death dealer just because of how anime tends to work and especially how it works lately. This isn't even a matter of playing against expectations anymore and I don't even need to be told that Gen Urobuchi is on the staff to start assuming that appearances are deceiving.
Just look at the way the winds blowing too with female lead characters and which ones are popular. In the last little while we've had the likes of Asuna Yuuki (pretty girl extreme online sword skill) Kuroyukihime (pretty girl, seemingly good at everything related to the art of war, strategy, intelligence gathering and combat ), Akemi Homura (pretty girl, master of gun-fu and explosives), Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere (pretty girls, extreme combat sequences for them), Code Geass Akito The Exiled (pretty girls, military command experience, CQC and Katana techniques all included) and I'm sure there's other examples and plenty more on the way. This seems to be what's becoming popular now and replacing "moeblob" as the primary otaku fantasy that is also somewhat likely to be relatable to western audiences. Get that girl out of harem choice list, give her some degree of independence, and while they're at it give her a sword or gun and let her wreck shit and look good while doing it seems to be the theory. I suppose you can say it's a little Hollywood, but it's better than just having something to stare at that just sits there and looks pretty/cute while acting out a bunch of tried and true personality tropes to their would be suitor. It's also probably something that's a bit more relatable to both western (love their violence) and Japanese audiences (love their bishojo) so yeah I'm going to call it, bishojo death dealers with hearts of gold are the next big thing in anime. |
