Yeah, I find it unlikely that they'll make up a new route out of nowhere, I would expect it to be largely based on one of the existing routes.

Well if they are not making HF and consider how much the anime was base in the Fate route, an original new setting might be for the better. Something I did appreciate in the anime over the VN was the fact that all the Servants and Masters get a fight (Zouken and True Assassin not counting) and not just get deal with in such a disappointing manner like the routes do with some characters.
If this is a battle royal then they can make a battle. A sneak attack from behind to kill the enemy in one blow is effective, but I should not realize how much easy things will be here if one of the Masters got a hold of a sniper rifle, especially when we have ancient heroes and magic on the table. So if is a new route I hope is better put together than the first anime. I mean is not like the VN novels have to limit the adaptation. This should be its own thing instead of trying to be 3 stories at the same time to please the fans of each character.

while all of them are sequels, HF carries the most cues from FZ than any other route. You could say that it is just the most direct of them and the one better used for sequel material.

Honeslty I think this is the smartest thing that Nasu and Ufotable could do. You CANNOT adapt a VN perfectly into an anime series without screwing up the narrative style. So making a new story entirely suited to becoming a sequel to Fate/Zero makes the most sense in this regard, especially since it adopts a linear narrative thus avoiding the confusion of picking one out of three routes. Besides, had they stuck with adapting only one route, I’m sure that the VN purists could not have possibly been pleased, so making an entirely new story (or an original narrative) serves as more or less a treat to old time fans as well as a perfect transition to those who watched Fate/Zero.

There's nothing in that image that denotes a route in any way, so not sure what you're getting at. It's a generic image of each of the servants, along with the corrupted grail. Each of those things is in each of the routes.
They're clearly playing it close to the vest, so don't expect any identifying characteristics until they're ready to come out and say what they're doing. |

What do you guys think about Shirou, Rin and Saber getting new casual outfits? Shirou and Saber will probably end up looking better, but is it really possible to improve Rin? The red sweater + short skirt + stockings combination was godly. If they remove her zettai ryouiki, we riot.
