yeah, I got the same feeling that the reason he destroyed that weird faced club mate (forgot his name) was because he wasn't over-thinking things and had no other outside distraction. But Chihaya's presence might change that and his opponent is someone with a renewed focus and is fairly strong as well.

At any rate, I hope he can keep his cool even though Chihaya is watching him now.

Agree I mean it's establish that he can remember all the location of the card in play within the time limit which by itself is as an advantage as Chihaya/Meijin's hearing or Arata/Shinobu's intuition and technique.
The problem really was like you said, his ability to stay calm and not over think things due to the information he has.

Arata's brother? I don't remember he has a brother. I think you mistake the glasses guy who is just his practice partner in the club and used to playing Karuta with him when he was a kid.
If it's him, Spoiler for Arata:

Yeah, she' going to say, "I didn't want to do 'it', but you made me do 'it'". Then, she's releasing some forbidden-ninja-skill/huge-bankai/limit-breaker. The situation is not like Chihaya against Yumi, or Chihaya against Shinobu. There's big power gap in these matches. It's harder to overturn the outcome if two opponents are nearly equal. Besides, Shinobu doesn't have some granddaddy's wisdom voice echoing in the background. She has to learn it from her own experience. Although, I hope the above statement is not true.

Its on a bi-weekly josei manga magazine, twice a month released on the 1st and 15th.
The EP 19 stuff is from chapter 34, it's not a major omission, just about 1 or 2 page and that was it. But it does give you a hint on Arata's current level even after over 1 1/2 years of inactivity.
