To be fair with Love Live, the show is getting better with times. It's jut like it took pretty damn long to introduce everyone and making a groupe alchemy.
For Locodol it will not be that long, and I don't think the series will be so Idol centered anyway.

Okay I have a huge weakness for idol anime. I really love it. So maybe that is tainting my view on this anime, but I found it really enjoyable. The song they sung was nice and the two main characters are tolerable; I'm interested to see where the black haired and brown hair+red eyes girls come into this; the reporter girl, and the main female character's friends. I have a feeling that the black haired and brown hair+red eyes girls will end up joining the idol group. Other than that it seems like a really nice laid back series and its nice to see some male characters in an idol anime lol The mc girl's uncle was pretty entertaining :P

So, it didn't dawn on Nanako to ask her uncle what the job was before she accepted it? You'd think that would be the first thing one would do when offered a job that seems to pay as much as this one does, especially when you see said uncle act mighty suspicious when on the phone.
This show won't win any awards, nor do I think it's gonna sell big, but I liked it, so I don't really care.

Where as this series... it's a Elementary School Dream, and it doesn't seem like Nanako looked into the Idols and what you're suppose to be as an Idol, etc etc. This is a newbie idol, Kinda like throwing someone that have no knowledge of an Anime and suddenly you want that person to write a blog about it on the spot... I loved the incredible lack of sense in portraying the uncle tricking his niece into getting on stage in a bikini as an amusing and light hearted development. The cynic inside of me was thinking of Wake Up Girls straight away without ever letting go...
Probably not gonna bother with this this one anyway. It's just a little bit too pedestrian for my tastes.

Anyway, I picked this up because it had a positive reception in /u/, honestly not expecting much. Having just recently gotten through/into Love Live!, the premise did come off as very familiar (though I won't dock this series for originality since it seems the source material debuted in 2011) but I felt the first episode actually focused on very different strengths. Overall I felt that the highlight of ep. 1 was in its slice of life/comedy/character moments like Nanako's reaction to her Uncle's failed pudding rebranding ("Uwah, I love pudding!..." ). The idol performance itself comparatively was rather grounded and unassuming but I don't think that necessarily is a bad thing. Whereas in Love Live! my tension/engagement was directed to things like the creation of Muse's next song or idol ranking, things directly related to their success as idols, here I think I can comfortably appreciate Nanako's (being shoved into being an) idol story as simply an auxillary to her character development, in stuff like her developing relationship with Yukari or changing relationship with the town and her original companions. To put it concretely, I guess the difference between Love Live and this is like the difference between a dramatic Tournament/Sports anime and a SoL. In any case, this first ep. was plenty pleasant enough a watch for me. Barring a significant tone change in the following episodes I think I will also be following this one along. |

It apparently was to her, though. Of course, the fact that she could then buy that swimsuit she wanted (even though she eventually got one for free) was probably what lured her in more than the pay itself.

Nanako originally had 3000 yen, and when she went to the shop found a swimsuit she liked for 5000 yen. So the 2000 yen from her uncle just about made up the difference. I believe the swimsuit which she wore was also the one she bought herself -- I don't recall her getting a swimsuit for free.

As for why she had a different suit than the one she looked at in the store, maybe that one wasn't available in her size? Who can say? One's attitude changes when shopping once you actually have the funds to get what you want, compared to just looking at things while knowing you can't buy any of them.

This week, girls get to know each other better. Yukari even prepared for the possibility of them getting to know each other very well, but it seems Nana would prefer not to (yet ).
I'm curious as to why Yukari is doing the Locodol job. It doesn't appear that she needs the money. Genuine interest in the community, or does something else appeal to her?

Ep 2
Quite an improvement for me over the first ep. It was nice to see Yuka and Nana getting to know each other better and also to see the type of work they are called upon to do. It kinda went from fuwa fuwa and harmless last week to a little more "organized" in a way, which is nice. I doubt it will be earthshakingly memorable, but I think it is a pleasant way to pass the time for sure. I think I will tentatively commit to this one. ^^ Oh yes I thought that last scene of the shopkeeper with the framed pic was endearing.

A much better episode then the first one with them both getting to know each other. Also Yukari was ready for anything from Nanako and I do mean anything . I'm really curious where this show is heading. It's a nice and funny anime to watch after a long day of work.

I really dislike idol stuff, but this series is just cute so far. (Watched 2 episodes.) I guess I shall have to live with the Nyaa running gag. It seems very low on drama and competition; this pleases me greatly. For school girls, appearing in the public eye like this is surely drama enough for the first weeks at least.
While not quite a favorite, the series has its charm. I hope they can keep that up. |

Honestly I had found episode 1 a little bit too slow paced and a bit bland or boring at times despite being cute overall.
Though I felt ep 2 was significantly better in that regards and had some fun character development for our main duo. Yukari being ready for that was a pleasant surprise , especially since every time I see their school I've reminded of Sakura Trick, since the layout, camera angle, and sakura tree around it used made them a bit similar feeling to me anyways.
