I'm a big fan of the original work so I knew the show itself wasn't going to disappoint. The only problem is just as expected, Adult!Satoru's VA. It just doesn't work. The dialogue scenes are mostly ok (this is being REALLY undemanding though, it's still far from the standard level of any actual VA) but the monologues are just cringe-worthy.
I'm far from being an expert in what's good voice acting and what isn't, but I think anyone that watches enough anime can notice something is clearly not working here. It's really a shame because it's the only clear flaw I found in this episode and I know a lot of people are really picky about VA work but I hope they won't give up on the series for it, the show is still really worth it. With that said, the show is still great and the visuals were as great as expected from noitamina. Can't wait for the rest. |

Damn, now I know what all the fuss is about. That was absolutely amazing. Love that cinematic ending.
I did kinda lol when the MC's mom figured everything out though, because I immediately thought "well I guess that's it for her". And I was right.

Promising start. I thought Akasaki Chinatsu (Nibutani in Chuunibyou) as the co-worker was particularly good, but I liked the voice of the (adult) main character, too. His understandably depressive personality is fairly familiar, lol. I read a bit of the manga, but didn't even get this far -- not because I didn't like it, but because I didn't want to know too much. I look forward to hearing Yuuki Aoi as the little girl who was abducted.

Just throwing this here, but Satoru's VA made me cringe a couple times too. I've heard "bored and detached" many times and really, on some lines this seemed plain "reading the script as it is". It felt like the apathetic one who couldn't be bothered putting any effort wasn't the character as much as the actor himself. If that makes sense to you.
Other than that, great episode, eager to see it follow suit!

Ep 01
Gotta agree ... that was an excellent start ... really engaging and well done. Definitely the strongest first ep of the season I have seen yet. Consider me committing to this one already.

They skipped so many strong moments. They can easily add some of the flashbacks like the matsuri later on, but the potential of the revivals was kinda wasted. Still a very good start.

That was a really good first episode. Time to get this murder mystery started!
They did cut out a few things from the manga and they have sped up some things as well, but I still get the overall feeling what is going on. I say this was a pretty good start to the series. I almost wish I hadn't read the manga so I could keep guessing with everyone else, but it'll still be fun nonetheless.
