As a big fan of the manga with overly high expectations, I guess I was somewhat underwhelmed by this first episode. The somewhat scratchy art style that adds a lot of impact to the dance moves didn't translate over particularly well to the anime, and there were some noticeably shoddy animations scattered around.

However, I'll reserve most of my judgement for when the full dance sequences are animated, since thats what I'm really looking forward to. The source is good enough to definitely deserve the full three episodes and more.

Believe it or not, I didn't even notice anything weird about the necks, I actually found the character designs quite gorgeous, especially Shizuku's who is super beautiful. Maybe it's because I was quickly pulled into the episode. This is definitely my favorite premier of the season. I liked everything about it.

It gave me Rental Magica flashbacks... (That's not a point against this show, though.)

The art style did kind of take me time to get used to. Even by the end I still don't love how the show looks. But it wasn't such a problem that I couldn't enjoy aspects of the episode.

Will say that if you just showed the first few seconds of the main character's face you'd be able to convince people this was a horror show. Forget a guy without dreams or ambitions...he looked like a zombie.

Can certainly understand a person struggling to find something they could really invest themselves into. And I'm glad for him that he has found something to get passionate about. Should be interesting to see how this show turns out overall.

A good start. There are a lot of high expectations for this anime. It may have not met the high expectations set upon it but it's not a huge chasm between what was presented and what was expected. My personal feel is that it will take a few episodes in laying down a firm foundation for the anime to develop and open up.

Wow, a ballroom dancing anime (manga). Will this follow in Yuri On Ice's footsteps (no pun intended...eh what the heck, it IS intended!) and do the sport justice? I liked the first episode. The MC isn't completely a doofus and his classmate is pretty cool too.

I'm interested to see how they will animate the longer dance sequences and i hope it does the manga justice.

woohoo... what a very good adaptation
they kept the art and emphasize more into the characters and their interaction
now, we just need to wait to see how well they will show the competition.. would it be tense or would it be just lots of static pictures with sparkles :heh"

Spoiler for opening and ending:

I have heard of this manga but never actually read it. Watching episode 1, the plot remind me a lot of Hajime no ippo. It is actually a carbon copy so far with a Takamura-ish character, a Ippo-ish character, a wanna-be-pro motivation and a Miyata(aka love interested) character. lol

Art style on the other hand, remind me a lot of Code Geass. People with long limbs taking bizarre pose and go miro! miro! miro! (look at me) rofl.

Look promising so far.

I finally got round to watching the first episode and so far so good. The necks are really something to behold and the animation felt strange if not a bit low budget but I was still effectively hooked on the story which was hitting all the right notes for me. So far ao good, bring on episode 2.

Goddammit, Shizuku and her voice does things to me I haven't felt in ages. Like closest thing there is to love in first sight, and only thing stopping me is I know she is a fictional character. Seriously, seeing Shizuku so realistically drawn even with flaws like drooping breasts makes her even more drop-dead gorgeous to my eyes. Doesn't help that Ayaneru is using a non-moefied version of her voice, which lends credence to how real Shizuku feels.

Hell, I want the MC to go gay for his inspirational guy (ala Yuri on Ice or probably even this cour's Dive), just so I can keep Shizuku for myself. Like, stop touching Shizuku you worthless MC.... ahh fuck me... T_T

I always imagined/read Shizuka with a lower voice range, so unfortunately for me Ayane Sakura's voice just doesn't work for me here.

Episode 2:

Heh, Tatara has some interesting instructors.

Shizuku looked great in her dancing dress, very elegant. They also captured the character expression pretty well from this show imo, especially when Hyodo glared at Tatara. That moment felt almost surreal.

I think the dancing movements were well captured as well. Only part that I found distracting is still the necks...they're so damn long.

Tatara already shows potential as a dancer despite being an amateur. I just think he needs to improve on his mechanical skills a bit. Otherwise, a pretty good episode.

The necks don't bother me, but Shizuku's spine freaks me out. Is it possible for a human being's spine to bend that way? Is she some kind of mutant snake woman?

Searching for competitive waltz videos on Youtube will confirm this to be true.

This. It will take some time to get used to the giraffe-length necks.

Otherwise, it's all good. Good progression in plot, story and character. Production I.G.'s Haikyuu team continues to deliver the goods here as well (save for those necks ). Watching this through to the end.

I'm out. The bizarre anatomy of the character designs is irritating, but the whole "Boyoyoyng!" bit at the start had me thinking "Oh for f**k's sake!", Shizuku couldn't be more of a trophy if she had handles and "BALLROOM DANCING CUP" written on her forehead, and are they ever going to animate a whole dance sequence or just a few steps plus more inhuman anatomical mutant giraffe people stills?

It's not my thing. Shonen stuff rarely is.

Just watched the first two episodes, really enjoyed them. Quite entertaining and far better than expected.

That bothered me in this episode as well. I want to see animated dancing like the animated ice-skating in YOI. Even if it lacks verisimilitude, I want to see animation, not a succession of still frames.

Episode 2 was the same as the first one, perfectly done on every way and entertaining. Tatara showing his full potential but there is still a long way to go for him, the practice was the best part of the episode and the way Shizuku looks on her dress was perfect.

Same as other people here I have no idea if the ones doing the animation knows how a NORMAL human being looks, seriously, first the necks being long as fuck and almost breaking on every single movement and now the spines bending in abnormal ways? jesus christ.
