Yeah, still not sure what the heck the combat system is going to be from those quick shots. Is it full blown action RPG? Some kind of hybrid between the turn based and more free flowing combat?
At least visually the game is looking good. Seems like they are on the right track with bringing some nice graphics to this thing.

If it's not turn based then I may just downgrade it from a "must have" to "wait for a sale" but that's just personal preference. Sometimes it feels like some folks in the industry have decided that turn based RPGs are somehow lesser than their Action RPG brethren.

A little something extra to back up my previous point on the arpg/turn based issues. This was supposedly taken from an interview Kitase had just a short while ago. Hopefully a fully subtitled video of it comes out soon.

As long as you can switch characters on the fly I'm fine with the change to action RPG combat. I just hope the other characters aren't just 'assists' that you can issue basic commands to. That'd suck.

I can sort of understand both sides of the argument on the combat decisions in the remake.
The fact is if one has very little faith in SE, then it is probably ideal to want the remake to copy the game mechanics wholesale without changes. The old system worked, and if one thinks modern SE is untrustworthy then one would not want the remake to deviate from the original. I understand that. I bought FFXII with my very first paycheck, and I was so disgusted with the fake MMO elements I never finished the game. This after being a customer for a decade. I never even touched 13. IMO, the desire for turn-based isn't because it is the best system, but because SE had burned so many bridges up to this point that many of us are not sure they are capable of making an alternative battle system that wouldn't be worse. Still, we are not making the game, SE is. And whether their new game mechanics would be a decent substitute is entirely up to them. I just hope it doesn't require quicktime events...

JP version for those who want to have a glimpse of the JP voice acting.
Color me a bit worried about the whole KH mode for FF7. It isn't even about "not expecting much from crappy SE" but rather because I actually like turn based RPG. And thus far, turn based RPG are being quite scarce over time, despite that system shouldn't even be called old or anything like that. So having FF7 following KH/FFXV path isn't particularly to my liking, although the "defend option" might not be just for show. Gauges OTOH look like limit break gauge as they filled upon damaging enemies, but their fill rate is abnormally fast. I agree with cyberdemon: for some reason, Cloud's limbs are quite skinny. But man, I didn't expect "scrubs" like Jessie being rendered that well.

Well the story will be the same though with some reworking they said. I personally like that it is being turned into an Action RPG. The turn based style just doesn't work for me much anymore after playing games like Kingdom Hearts. I just hope like others had mentioned that they give you an option of which characters to fight with.
