Hmm, drip marketing for Thoma and only him on the official media outlets. Last time, we got consecutive posts for Ayaka, Yoimiya and Sayu. Then Raiden, Sara and Kokomi a few days after 2.0 started. Now it's only Thoma. So maybe rerun banners in 2.2? If so, maybe I'll try and roll for Kokomi. Maybe.

They only posted the new ones last time a few days after the patch dropped. Thoma now was probably to pull as much attention away from pre-patch mining as the could. Any 5-star will likely be Friday at the earliest.

In the Youtube comments, someone sourced the poem at the end of the Japanese trailer:

It's from the ancient collection of Japanese poetry Kokin Wakashuu, which sources have translated as:

When in sleep –
Is only what we see then
To be called a dream?
This fleeting world, too,
I cannot see as reality.

Considering all the lore for this game (including the tie-in with the Fallen Stars event, whose antagonist-apparent is appropriately showing up in this coming Act), it seems incredibly relevant, not only to the Shogun but the game as a whole.

All in all, the trailer is excellent -- they really managed to capture the feeling that you're passing through a storm, and the music is an excellent remix of Inazuma themes with elements that remind of the previous Archon character demo.

Looking forward to seeing how the chapter concludes in a few days.

Seems like there's an issue with Raiden and Beidou. Specifically, Raiden's Burst does not work on Beidou's Burst. The wording on Beidou's Burst is that it works when Normal and Charge Attack damages hit enemies. But Raiden's NA and CA changes to Burst damage when she uses her Burst. So Raiden can't trigger Beidou's lightnings because her attacks after her Burst are considered Elemental Burst, not NA or CA. However, it seems Xingqiu's Burst works with Raiden as XQ Burst triggers when NA action is done, not necessarily when it hits or what damage type it is.

Seems like there's a riot brewing up. The fact that Mihoyo had to post something to clarify this seems like what's triggering people. Plus the confusing wordings of the skills. Beidou team comps were ruined because of this. Zhongli 2 Electric Boogaloo? (heh, electric)

Doesn't matter, Raiden isn't Chinese so nothing will happen, just like with Yoimiya. Only way they MIGHT tweak something is if their sales for her underperform.

I've already given mihoyo two strikes (Zhongli and Yoimiya) on how they approach players and balance. I'm basically just giving them until Yae before I decide if I'm done with their nonsense or not.

My understanding is that it clashes and doesn't proc the off-field bursts of characters like Beidou, however for whatever reason XQ works.

This of course lessens her use as an on-field character unless your main DPS is someone like Eula. For others who would rely on her Skill to proc electro the same way Fischl is usually played, it would probably be fine.

Spoiler for Major plot spoilers regarding the Plot of 2.1 and Raiden Character Quest:

So, things are... even more complicated than they seemed? The Raiden Shogun we see on the surface is a puppet (programmed clone?) who is following her "programming" of pursuing eternity, but seemingly susceptible to deceit by those who are ostensibly loyal to her. The Fatui realize this and engineer the whole situation to try to destabilize/overthrow the nation by playing both sides against each other. But the real Raiden Shogun is essentially aware of this -- all of it -- she just doesn't see any of it as a threat to her warped view of eternity so didn't bother intervening. Her eternity has basically resolved to nothingness.

Yae's whole purpose is essentially to awaken the Shogun from her eternal meditation using the Traveler as a key. But... who even *is* the real shogun is... complicated. The person who is the current Raiden Shogun "for real" is actually not Baal, but Beelzebub -- Baal's twin sister and shadow warrior/body double. They never revealed the truth to the people back in the day and used to reign together until Bael died during the Khaenri'ah situation. Basically since then, Beelzebub (Ei) left the day-to-day running of things to the puppet and stayed in her eternal meditation, alone and detached in pursuit of her idea of eternity. So all the allusions to "split personality" are kind of complicated: there's the twins of Baal and Beelzebub (Ei) in the past (which we see alluded to in the teaser/demo), but there's also Ei and the "Raiden Shogun" puppet everyone sees. (Oh and... for good measure, Ei's presence also manifests in her sword. In a sense, these are all facets of her godhood. This is probably why the symbolism of Raiden Shogun pulling the sword from inside her chest.)

So all the bad stuff that happened to people as a result of the Vision Degree -- and even the civil war that very nearly went to a head -- is, I guess, fundamentally because the real Shogun was too self-absorbed and has decided more-or-less that the pursuit of eternity means ridding yourself of all worldly concerns -- that human ambition is fleeting and, in her warped view, meaningless in the face of eternal euthymia. The eternity Ei was seeking was a lonely stasis, but Yae believes in an eternity living alongside people (where they are allowed to dream and to have the gods look on them with favor for doing so) and considers Ei's behavior childish.

But then, the real reveals are even crazier. 1) Ei severed her link with Celestia long ago (likely as a result of the Khaenri'ah incident) so long since gave up using her gnosis. 2) The Tsarista was just misdirection all along and was only a puppet whose strings got... obliterated. 3) Scaramouche is the prototype "puppet Raiden Shogun", and Yae gave him Baal's vision as a bargaining chip to save the Traveler's life. The further insight in how delusions work (providing vision-like power at the cost of the wielder's lifeforce) was also not pleasant, but the main point of that reveal was really just to connect the dots of everything that was going on. Classic "create the problem, sell the solution" way to cause the country to self-destruct from the inside out -- and they were basically in on everything.

And then -- and then -- the only thing I could think when playing the Raiden Shogun character quest was "some people are going to be so mad!" lol. People who thought she should be an irredeemable villain were like "I hope they don't make us take the her out on a date..." Welllllll.... I knew that all the layers of reveals with Ei in the main story were a setup so that there can be a plausible reason why Raiden Shogun would conceivably accompany the traveler from time to time in the "head canon" world that is the wish system, companionship levels, etc., but... yup, it was literally "take her out for desert and light novels." Having locked herself up and freeing her mind from "trivial things" for 300+ years, she is of course completely clueless about the outside world. She didn't realize all the little ways that the world did in fact change without her knowing it (because she lived in a bubble where she could believe things were still unchanging). The light novel gags were great. But despite the levity and "My Almighty Shogun Can't Be This Cute!" vibes of the first half, they did transition into something more meaningful. The people who were like "they'd better not try to humanize her" will be mad, but this game is really framing that all the gods' perspectives are a bit warped by the passage of time which leaves them with giant holes in their personalities (augmented by inevitable erosion/decay). Despite what Ei was trying to do to protect herself from decay, it was just eroding her mind in a different way. The archon quest ends with a sort of understated apology -- not as Raiden Shogun, but as Ei. But at the same time, I feel like they're not trying to say that all is forgiven either. Her perspective is starting to evolve, but is still fundamentally different than those whose lives, from her point of view, are so transient. We can start to understand, but I think we won't ever fully agree with her.

All in all, I'm satisfied, I think? I guess the main thing I'd consider a potentially wasted opportunity here was that almost all the players in the first two acts were put on the sideline in favor of mostly-new players in the second act. There were tie-ins... but it's almost a cameo. They also gave Sayu what could be a best called a cameo -- it seems like they could have done a lot more with this, but might have gotten cut for time. (In a way, though, I'm glad they didn't give us a major sneaking mission here -- the minor one we got was enough for me.) And yeah, Sangonomiya was more of a stepping stone to the larger story than a fully-fledged story on its own. Probably Kokomi's character quest will help to flesh things out a bit more. The fifth island isn't featured in the Archon quest at all -- so far, at least.
