Vexx this concern comes from the tittles like Shakugan No Shana where the novels were censored (the suggestive part either taken out or cut, they even took out two illustrations).

As for what the company says... I do not trust it that much... Seven seas also said that they will not be afraid to release rather suggestive parts as well... but silently canceled Kodomo No Jikan. they also were proud about their regular on time releases, but as we can see from ZnT example it is not really true.

Looks like you're going to be with us for a while Judge. Over a year... A bit long, no? It took a single fan subber and a few editors around six months to do volume three! It's going to take an entire professional team of translators over a year to do one volume? Of course, I may be missing some copyright stuff that still needs to be ironed out. I also have no real idea about the process of translating so I'm not one to talk.
As far as the release date, they will probably finish translating volume one by say early (spring) next year. who knows. The release date is "shelf date," so they want time to find ways to market books, to release other titles they have earlier, and wait for the market to buy S&W in large quantities. So they are going to take that long for say, getting people interested in S&W, release the other novels they've been holding off on, and come up with capital gain strategies

EDIT: How can you get a DVD rip of a movie that hasn't even been released on DVD yet? (You get someone to eiter A) copy it from the harddrive used in movie theater's digital projections, or B) get someone to burn a copy that works at the studio. Either way, it doesn't take another 8 months to make a bunch of DVD's. Otherwise the DVD's would be out as soon as the movie is finished in theatres.)

They usually only have one translator and the other books won't take as long.

Ah, I see. Didn't know that about official translations. Thanks.

The other books won't take as long because they won't have to do as much marketing for volume 01? That would make sense.

I'm kind of flabbergasted that there'd be any censoring of a light novel considering what sits around in Barnes&Noble available to teens. There's just no reason for it. I guess we'll just have to see -- all I can suggest is that you write Yen Press and politely let them know their customers do not want any censoring or editing.

Seven Seas didn't "silently" cancel KnJ ... there was a regular riot over the matter, both from witch-burning zealots and then those outraged at the cancellation. Seven Seas is on my permament ban list as a result -- doesn't matter what they release, I won't buy their products anymore.

As for the release date.... December 2009??????????????? Even allowing for the usual one translator (which has always made me nervous about manga translations). That seems a terribly long ways off.

Makes me wonder if its being tied in with an anime R1 release or other merchandising.

That could be a possibility, but I think its just the way Yen Press is. They have always seemed to be quite slow with their releases. As for the anime it's technically liscensed Kodakawa USA. Kodakawa does not actually distribute anime in North America directly, but partners with other companies. So there's no actual guarantee that Spice and Wolf will see the light of day. I also doubt they've actually put any work into it yet which means if/when they find a distributor it could still be another year on top of that before they're released. Then again if it does take a year the tie in merchandising could actually work since they could probably both be projected for the same release date around December.

Whichever way you look at it, it seems to me that barbs should have plenty of time to finish Vol. 1 (and maybe 2?) and, as long as we don't slack off big time, B-T should be able to remain consistently ahead of the official releases.

all this talk about release dates makes me sad
when i think about the fact that SaW was published in 2005 and they need 4 or 5 years to translate it in english (and i am german) I fear that i ll miss something (and i am concerned about other light novels like ZnT as well)
I ll have to wait for years untill i am able to read everything i want to read now
rly depressing

1. Spice and Wolf Vol.X will be released on February 10, 2009.
Probably, the cover's illustration theme is "Daytime".
The stage of this volume is a Winfield kingdom.
It corresponds to U.K if it is applied to the real world.

2. An official guidebook 'All of Spice and Wolf' will be released on December 10, 2008.
The short story "Wolf and a star-colored howl " is included in it.

3. Dengekibunko Magazine Vo.5 will be released on December 10, 2008.
The short story "wolf and a golden promise (second half)" is included in it.

There's also been a number of hugs and warmth-sharing.

I think they *are* together -- for the whole journey. But as to whether they become mates (temporarily or permament) .... well that is unknown. I do know much of Japanese literature is just drenched in bittersweet endings so I try not to get too anticipatory.
