Just watched ep3, loved the final scene.

But it was obvious that the number 4 was Noe's brother.

It's sad but I think that Ai-chan is off, even if we get more development, Shin has no interest on her. The match is between Hiromi and Noe.

While Kimikiss get (a little) better, but still a fail for me, I enjoyed all 3 eps of True Tears.

it is too early to count Aiko out. It has only been 3 episodes and they have been Noe and Hiromi centric. we still have 10 more episodes to give Noe the spotlight. Still, even when the last three episodes have been mostly about Noe and Hiromi, Aiko has had some good good scenes even though short.

It must have been quite a shock for Shinichirou...
Aiko and Noe's relationship with Shinichirou seems to start to progress, and Hiromi's with him seems halted because of her announcement. Also, seems to have something on Noe's past (and maybe why she became so weird? )

On the other hand, even though I doubt she had that intention, Noe is causing Shinchirou to give up on Hiromi.

Oh, and Noe's brother's name is "Isurugi Jun". And he's really popular with the girls. But even then, he only thinks about Noe, his sister...

Thanks, I did not think about it that way. It gives more credence that Hiromi is under a lot of pressure herself, to contain her feelings, and do whatever is necessary to keep others from revealing her true feelings. In that regards, she is very noble in her lies. To keep harmony in the family that took her in when no one else would. She is lying because she really has no other choice. Revealing the truth could destroy the family she is living with. She would be forced to leave and Shin-ichiro would be forced to choose between his family and her.

I really feel bad for the situation Hiromi is in. Her father/family is gone, and she cannot even let her feelings out.

The ending of episode 3 was so nicely done. It might be a small thing to notice but if you look back at her conversation with her basketball friend, the instant after she mentions to her friend to not mention Shin's name again, she gets up and leaves. I'm pretty sure that the friend clearly didn't believe what she was saying and was going to continue the conversation and, in Hiromi's mind, if that conversation were to have continued, it would have became evident that she was lieing. The biggest part that gives that away though is the fact that she never refers to the guy by his name(though to be honest, it would be really surprising if his name was four or something).

Glad you caught that as well. Tomoyo's expression as Hiromi left showed that she did not buy what Hiromi just said.

Also, that line about Noe's brother's name as "four" really cracked me up. Thanks for the laugh.

Not to mention the possibility of damaging his relationship with Nobuse in the end.

Plus points for Noe for being honest and straight forward. Negative points for childlike nature and apparent immaturity. She doesn't have much against her right now, but then again, she doesn't have much going for her as well. Too much fun and onii-chan like.

Plus points for Hiromi for sacrificing her true feelings in order to keep harmony in the household. Negative points for her misconstrued and complicated actions that lead to more complications. She is by far the most complex character in the show right now. Are her actions noble or are they deceptive? I like the think the former. She is also the character I sympathize with the most. She seems like a real character, like someone I would know in real life. Of course, these types of girls drive me insane, since it is almost impossible to understand them unless you are a girl yourself.

I don't think she is doing such a thing, it's all in Nobuse's head that she is his g/f, all she did was befriend Nobuse to get closer to Shin nobuse just got the wrong idea in his head. The only blame I see on her part is not coming out and telling Nobuse to stop caling her his g/f aside from that so far from what we have seen Aiko has done nothing as manipulating Nobuse.

Anime has been judged and found guilty of not being a positive surprise. So I will throw it into the tower of dropped anime. A few words so the time I spent doesn't go to waste:

I count four harems that started in January, two comedies, two melodramas. This one seems to be the better one of the melodramas. I found the intro song catchy. I'm not so obvervant when it comes to animation but it seems to be cleary above average. I noted the CG animation of people in the distance and it seems they are almost at the point where it becomes to look natural (i.e. handdrawn).

Nothing spectacular about the story. We have the spaced out girl and the childhood friend, and the ending looks quite easy to predict. I was surprised that the shop girl seems to be also in love with the harem lead, I would have guessed they would just pair her up with the male sidekick and leave it at that.

I wonder why people make such a fuss about Hiromi's "confession" near the end of ep 3. That was such a cliché scene (and probably the last straw that convinced me that this anime is standard fare). I don't understand how any watcher could take her seriously. But while I'm sure that she doesn't even know "number four" at this point, I'm not ruling out the possibility that she might get him as consolation prize in the end.

They have created the first 3 or more episodes to build up quite slow, but as of now there is so many things that can happen in this anime and so many questions unanswered which was the way the creators wanted to show this anime so it keeps you guessing like Kimikiss, I feel out of all the new anime's this has to be the best because it has the characters now there it just needs a good story which i think will start to unfold in the coming weeks.

I would say you could be correct but i think it must be something like that because her brother seems fine so it must be something in her past or maybe just like Haruhi Suzumiya its just her way of doing things.

I just don;t hope he just ignored the feelings of Ai or Aoi, shes seems nice and out of the 3 girls i would want her to get her man as Noe is a great character but too weird and due to her naivety i don't think shes looking for love with Shinichiro i feel shes looking for a friend, so that leaves it Ai or Aoi and Hiromi.

I think its because Hiromi so far, has the biggest character development. We barely know about Noe and Aiko as of now. While Hiromi already has a flashback scene + confessions.

While I can't classify this as harem yet, that is until Aiko really gets into him. I don't consider love triangle as a harem.

Anime is full of cliche. The only thing that counts is the execution. Hiromi's confession was done quite well albeit, predictable. Probably the interesting part is how would she act next(she was shocked to boot).

Although I want a Hiromi ending. I think he will end up with Noe instead.

Clarifying note about Aiko: She is NOT going out with Shin's friend. He WANTS to go out with her, but she merely tolerates him being around and isn't rude (usually). I think it's mostly bc he usually brings Shin along with him so

I think it's going to become clear next episode, as in the preview I think what he was alluding to is -- he saw Aiko making a pass at Shin and so he wants him to go out with Noe so Aiko has to give up.

We could have an ep where the 2 friends fight, or at least a verbal discussion. When Nobuse finds out that his beloved Ai-chan likes Shinichiro. Shouting how he dares to "steal" his "girlfriend" while he has 2 other girls going on him.

Im hoping Aiko is not going to give up so easily. I am routing for her. I know her chances maybe small but i like her as a character. Having Shin go out with Noe so early on would be weird. Im not sure if Aiko is the fighting type but i dont think she would take it laying down. Hiromi well she has to dislodge that foot she put in her mouth in episode 3 before anything else. Plus Shin is so indecisive i honestly dont know who he TRULY likes.

I think saying that all anime is cliché is just a cliché. Of course, if you define the word broad enough then everything is cliché. (In a crime story somebody dies and in the end the cop catches the killer. A cliché if you will.) But by extending definitions every argument can be turned into a truism. It is true that the more anime-specific a genre is (Bishoujo, Mecha, Mahou Shoujo, Shounen/Fighting, ...) the more likely it will fall into the cliché trap. But Monster? Or Bartender? Haibane Renmei? Niea_7? Baccano? And just talking about the eroge adaption genre, kimikiss for example is less clichéd than others due to the abundance of male characters. The famous end of School Days was the opposite of a cliché.

It's not a bad thing to like clichés. I have my favorite clichés too. But saying they are unavoidable is too easy.

Shin ONLY loves Hiromi unless Hiromi's lie really get into him and make him hate her. But it's obvious how he only have interest on Hiromi. Sure he was sighing after some unknown dude take Noe on a bike, but he was not shocked like the way he is after the eavesdropping incident. As for Ai, he thinks of her no more than as a friend. He doesn't seem to get jealous if Nobuse is going out with her.

The seriously wasn't anything between the two in the first place at the rate they were going. Nothing would have happened in the first place seen as how hiromi is being avoiding and shin lacks the guts.

It must have hurt bad, but it would have thought that he. at least, would find some way to express his emotions other than being gloomy aka emo.

Now don't tell me he is gonig to have to be baby'ed by ai chan because that would just give him minus points from me

If a char is happy all the time, he'll be pretty boring. Besides, it's difficult to approach a girl who's gloomy and emo everytime you're around her. This being Hiromi's apologetic attitude to Shin.

Seems that I am late to the party but I have to say I find it rather interesting how people can categorize certain characters based on their experience with the cliches of this anime genre. I mean, if a viewer watches anime for the first time, he or she may well think Hiromi was quite sincere when she said she liked, loved or whatever Mr. Number Four. But since we are cynical experienced viewers who know this is a dating sim adaptation hence any amount of cute girls will fall for the main guy and we have watched the opening, we don't buy that. Personally, I think it would be rather awesome if Hiromi or any of the expected harem trio never shows any interest in the main character but I am weird and usually don't like harems, so...
Oh well, cynical or noble liar, or maybe even sincere, I still like Hiromi way more than Miss Tree Jumper a.k.a. Injury Faker. Complicatred personality traits aside, usually tall dreamy girls>>>>>>>>eccentric quasi lolis.

I'd just like to mention that although I am defending Hiromi, so far Noe remains my favorite character in this show. Weird is good, at least in fiction. I can't remember a character quite like her.

I notice in Slice of Life's list of the best anime of 2007, he has Byousoku 5cm halfway down the list, Lucky Star even further down, and ef and Blue Drop don't appear at all. Since those are my four top shows of 2007, it's clear that our tastes differ, lol. I don't find this show in the least cliched, personally, but maybe it's just that the seiyuu are making the characters feel so real and complex to me, and the direction is so delicate. I certainly agree, however, that saying all anime is cliched is too easy. I would add that well-presented cliches are far preferable to something original but ugly or boring.
