That was a pretty good episode. Takao is certainly cute when she's not trying to annihilate them . A nice tactic of holding back on destroying her apparently has Takao wanting a "human unit" .
A pretty fun episode that was over before I knew it. Certainly shows how you can win with superior tactics. They lucked out with Takao not hiding for an instant that she knew where to fire and being caught completely offguard by that last attack.

So... he decided not to kill Takao when he saw she was a person rather than just a ship? Surely he already knew that. Or is it some chivalrous thing about not wanting to hurt a "girl?"
Not that I object to his decision, I'm just not sure I understand it.

Depending on what next episode adapt I might spoil it. Or I can do it through PM. Quote:

Also there's a reason why Takao is so beloved by the fandom.
The cracks about a Tsundere Heavy Cruiser some of us have been doing over the last few days? It's a thing with this series. As for Takao (Arpeggio) vs. Takao (Kantai), the latter will have to contend with Strike Witches S3 airing in the same general timeline so...

Kantai Collection, which also has IJN ship girls, but is a topic for another thread.
And to avoid confusion, the next Strike Witches thing only has rumblings so far, nothing definite. Might have to re-read the first chapters again, but I remember Takao taken out by one of Iona's last two corrosion torpedoes, and NOT by Hyuuga's Grav Cannon. Edit: My mistake, they DID use the Grav cannon, but only after the corrosive torpedoes were used.

Excellent episode! They really pulled it off this time by staying faithful to the manga, though some bits were left out but that didn't affect the overall quality in the end.
But now that the fight with Takao is done I'm wondering what they are gonna do with the rest 10 episodes. It's nice to see the anime getting sped up right at the beginning of the season but I'm slightly worried they're gonna stuff loads of filler for the rest of the series. Spoiler for speculation:

Killing another human being is significantly more difficult, because humans have an innate sense of not wanting to kill other people. Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman discusses this in his book On Killing, where he notes that military training as regards to killing serves to 1) desensitize the soldier to the act of killing, and 2) place safeguards (in the form of ROE and orders and other measures) to control and condition the soldier to kill when needed, and to not kill when not needed. (I'm paraphrasing, it's been a while since I read the book.) Essentially, akin to a safety on a firearm. Grossman also put forward the hypothesis that modern media - tv, rap, music, literature, games - serves to further desensitize young people towards the idea of killing, without the training or safeguards that military training provides. Spec Ops: The Line lampshaded this: "To kill for yourself is murder. To kill for your government is heroic. To kill for entertainment is harmless.” -=- Also, if there rest of the series was made up of Takao being Takao, I wouldn't really mind. Tsundere Heavy Cruiser, Flagship of our hearts~ <3 <3 <3

This is the omitted scene in anime. That scene is particularly that makes Takao interested in human (especially Gunzou) |

And thus we see the beginnings of the Tsundere Heavy Cruiser, And even in CGI, Takao is still quite lovely, especially when her Tsundere engine goes full power
Oh, and I guess the battle this episode was great too

Woah...Supergravi cannon shattered Takao's Wave force armor so fast. I actually felt sorry for her when I saw it.
I didn't expect there will be a scene involving Kongo and Takao, look like Kongo-sama had to "fill-in" the "missing supreme flagship role" as well. Episode was great, I'm actually ready and want to see some filler episodes before we see that Takao again ~with a hug pillow. |

Very nice naval warfare episode. I loved all the serious, thoughtful dialogue and military tactics on display. The action scenes/explosions also looked great in this episode.
However, I also found the decision to spare Takao a bit odd. If it's part of some master plan, that's fine, but I honestly hope it's not just a case of pure mercy.

Great episode, the skirmish against Takao is the first proper clash in the manga and as such it deserved the entire episode. Sanzigen really knows their 3D stuff because those sequences with the ships folding up and setting up weaponry are amazing, same with the graviton cannon effects.
