I only glimpsed through the WN parts of what I should have read in the LN. Some deviation in events, rearrangement of some lines, completely different lines that followed completely identical lines etc. etc., as well as squashing certain developments together in a loop, and expanding other parts. I would have to go through them again when I have more time to find all the exact differences, but it's actually low priority for me now, mainly because the main plot does not seem to be affected, and there is no deviation in terms of characterization due to the differences.

Overall, with respect to the changes, I cannot say which is better yet. For example

Regarding linking up with Emilia after bumping into Ram for the first time, the series of events are different. But because that part of loop is erased after the reset, there is no real value in some interactions from the WN which appeared to be snipped in the LN.

Also in the WN, the possession ability of Sloth seems to be caught on quite early. In the LN, in volume 8, which is an entire volume after whale expedition, there is no mention. I verified with the search function on my ebook reader and 憑依 didn't come up. The volume ended with Subaru dying after getting possessed for the first time. Only at that point in time, he realized all the fingertips were the same Sloth though 憑依 as one of his abilities had not come up yet in the text.

In the LN, Emilia appeared to fight the last Sloth-possessed fingertip without being aware of Subaru's nearby presence and she said:
「――そこまでよ、悪党」

In the WN, she said the same line when she came back to assist Subaru as he was facing Betelgeuse when they were heading towards 聖域 where Roswaal was. Subaru already knew about possession in the WN but didn't know he could be possessed (I think) and he was possessed after this. Anyway, the unfolding of events were completely different here. Like Emilia witnessing Subaru dying as he got his comrades to kill him in the WN but totally oblivious in the LN.

Some of the other encounters in v8 also appeared to be different. I didn't really go through all the preceding parts though I could make some educated guesses based on some of the different outcomes in sub-encounters which I looked into at more detailed level, but it's too much trouble.

On the whole however, my impression is that the LN feels a bit more polished in writing flow and transitions. So in that area, I would say it's better.

But, despite the deviations, I couldn't shake off the cliffhanger in the LN of volume 8, so I proceeded to read the rest of the arc in the WN. Julius and Subaru confirmed best buds. Ending chapter of this arc was really satisfying to the MAX! And then I read the interlude after chapter 84:

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCK!!! My worst fears of the foreshadow I mentioned about Rem have been realized!!
Why!? Why does the author have to keep crushing Subaru me after such a satisfying conclusion to the arc!?
But anyhow, I have to take a break from this series for a while before I move on to arc 4. Sigh...

They're mostly minor cuts of useless and long dialog as well as minor events.

The WN is really not well paced, and totally unfit for book reading or adaptation, so the omissions of dragged-out dialog is perfectly fine.

Basically LN is more refined, which is pretty normal for WN>LN editing.

• The method of trespassing into the castle. While at the Kadomon shop, they called out to Al and boarded the imperial carriage together into the castle. While on board the carriage it was established that Subaru and Al are the same. (I was a bit confused so I checked his wiki character section SPOIL – he was originally from another world like Subaru)

• Priscilla stopped herself right before using yang magic on Felt.
• During the duel between Subaru and Julius, due to Reinhart no intercession or Al’s interference could occur.

Fifth Volume

Important Changes

• The scene of exchanging sake cups with Kurush was added
• The situation of Kurush’s arbor was added. “With various things entering the residence, a great number of people were coming and going” etc, the foreshadowing of the later half was much easier to understand. (I have no idea wth this is talking about)
• He got along even better with Otto
• Rem: “It’s because, Subaru is special”
• The point of view from Subaru who went insane was decreased, Rem’s psychological description was substantially increased

• The fatal wound on Rem [Being impaled by countless crucifying swords]-->[the whole body is split apart in an instant]

She broke down into tears and said she was happy and that nobody had ever said he liked her since she was born and she never thought anyone would. Then she said she didn't know how to respond. Subaru said she could take her time and he would continue to work hard and make her fall head over heels for him.

I don't know about that. While I don't doubt he'll get a pretty girl in the end, I can't help but think there's gonna be some bitter taste. Something like everyone forgetting who he is as he spends the rest of eternity with a dere Satella/Emilia.

That is indeed beautiful, a little bit of hope all that despair that surrounds Subaru and his love ones. I have no doubt it will be a happy ending at the very end, the guy deserves it after all that hell.

Have anyone consider that maybe Satella wants Subaru to kill her? Maybe all the task he has to complete in order ti save his loved ones and reach another save point are part of a plan of the Witch of Envy to have Subaru destroy her for good, after all she´s been sealed for centuries and part of her has something close to sanity.
