IS-7's and 8's are beyond the time limit for Senshado so they're no go's. ISU-152's and IS-3's on the other hand are, and would likely be the most advanced heavy vehicles that Pravda can reasonably field.

It raises the question though: if Saunders is supposed to be the best equipped of all the schools, yet Black Forest and Pravda have heavy tanks like these, then what does Saunders have to match? T95's? T29's? Super Pershings?

Saunders are actually not necessarily the best equipped of all the schools. But they have the most tanks (more than 40) compared to every other school. They could have brought everything and Oorai's first serious battle would probably turned out to be different.

Even if all Pravda had was mountains of T-34s with KV and IS support, they would be more than a match for Black Forest Peak's mostly Panzer IIIs. The Panthers even it up with the Tiger, but to keep the lines from needing to go wondering off on cliffs (like Miho did last year), the massed tank destroyers would do a number on the T-34s and KV/IS combos. Even more than what the Germans had as Kursk.

The Panzer III/Panther/Tiger combo would be enough for pretty much any other school except Pravda. (In theory, Black Forest should have a lot of StuG III and Panzer IVs as well, but then one would have to pick out the Ooari tanks form the enemy tanks)

Miho's discription in episode 10 was massed Panthers, a Tiger and a Jadgpanther. This means that they probably didn't have all these late-war tank destroyers last year, or they were reserves at best. Being built up to counter what happened against Pravda last year.

There is supposed to be some room for negotiation if you tank was in design. Since the IS-7 supposedly started design in 1944, it might fit. After allowing the Maus, the committee is in a poor position to complain.

But I suspect it was an overblown reaction, paralleling the real German reaction. Perhaps 10 years ago, they were doing quite well with "normal" equipment when Pravda comes in with T-34/76s and pounds their Pz IIIs and IVs. In retaliation, they buy Tigers and stuff, which guarantees enough of a technical superiority they win. Pravda, being a relatively small school (their carrier is big, but the surface inhabited area as of this year seems not much larger than Oarai) can't catch up quickly.

However, with these new tanks it proves too easy to win most fights. Someone said "The worst thing for a general to have is superior numbers", and it might apply here. As it becomes possible to win against most teams with their eyes closed, the average tactical proficiency of Kuromorimine declined. Still, the equipment and residual proficiency buoys them along for 9 years. Maybe once or twice Pravda or other teams comes close to winning, and they buy yet more equipment.

Then we have last year. Pravda has been slowly building its tank force to catch up, and with some clever tactics along with KMM simply not being as good as it was, wins last years fight.

Instead of drawing the right conclusions, or perhaps unable to act on the right conclusions, Shiho does the only thing she could - if you can't improve the personnel you improve the equipment to the hilt and pray. And we have this year's lineup of tanks and crews.

I wonder if there is a rule that the flag tank cannot be impenetrable for the opposing team. Because, then the contest is pointless.

Though then you wonder what would happen if they ran into a force that used all pre-war tanks, with the largest gun being that on say the Type 89 or the Panzer 38(t).

The Maus by the way in testing had a tendency to totally crush the road it drove on so much to the extent it would get stuck into the ground.

Yep, I counted 43 in the pan-out shot of Saunder's fleet of M4 tanks rolling along. Doesn't show what other tanks they had at their disposal. I'm sure they have them, since Saunders did bring along several rare support vehicles (shower truck?).

Actually, sending any tanks with a long barrel cannon into the urban (and forest) area is bad idea as the cannon can get stuck with the building/tree.

Alternatively, if M3 Lee rush to the front of ...(spoiler)..... (not in front of cannon!), it can use its tall body to prevent ....(spoiler).... turret from turning to Oarai's tanks. (Correct me if I wrong in case M3 Lee's body is not tall enough to do that)

There is one scene that showed ...(spoiler).... cannon stuck with the building, I take that as the hint of what will happen next ep.

Well it does have that secondary cannon, though that only would help in certain situations.
