Because Erika is basically a cartoon character.

Or, for a more serious answer, she was suicidal because of her boyfriend cheating on her (remember, she's 14).

I thought all we knew about Erika's age was that she looked a couple of years younger than Jessica? I don't remember it being stated.

Otherwise I agree. It's kind of implied she committed suicide because of her boyfriend.

14-ish, then. Erika's certainly no older than 15.

AAh, but does this mean that this is the end of the Battler tale? it say that episode 6 is the end of Battler and Beato's tale...but not the tale about Battler alone right?

I think it is quite a plausible theory, or who knows maybe she was killed. In the first place that pleasure boat wasn't supposed to be there.

The funniest part is that the reading of the katakana are the same as "Butler", which apparently is also the way he's referred to in the game script.

This is what led some to speculate that Battler was the culprit because of a certain infamous trope in mystery novels. But then it was outright denied in red so it is anyone's guess as to why Ryuukishi chose that name. I think the pun with "Butler" is definitely not the fruit of chance, he purposely made it, going as far as to stretch the rules normally used with other names in order to obtain it, making it an anomaly on many different levels.

She's totally bi. Or she switched after the boyfriend thing like a stereotypical angry lesbian.

I think her wangsting helps people make yuri of her and Dlanor. Or Bern.

...Or she's probably lusting after Battler.

I guess im the only one that thinks that whole cheating bf thing was a bit suspect. idk its hard to explain but i got the feeling that dlanor had more to say than that during the scene but gave up on it.

also since this is the closest thing to a general umineko discussion, does anyone else feel that umineko has ruined the fantasy genre for them.

Spoiler for example:

Erika is awesome for me.. and i don't think they are pieces.. For bern erika is, but in reality they are human.. Erika had parents ex-boyfriend, she was cruising in time of 4-5 october.. It just happened that is 5th and 6th world(kakera) she fell from boat.. + bern told her that she is gonna find worst kakera if she don't win

Just because she has those life details doesn't mean she's not a piece. Those things could be faked, or she inherited memories from the real Erika who drowned.

After all, apparently the real Erika didn't have blue hair.

I'm guilty of this too. Sometimes if I watch an anime with a supernatural theme, I start to think to myself "Well I wonder what's really happening" "What kind of trick is that?" etc etc etc.

It happened to me with brother bear, I completely reinterpreted the story using the magic logic of Umineko, and it made perfect sense! The conclusion however is quite sad.

I do that all the time. Especially when watching those cheesy SyFy channel original movies with a supernatural horror element. It's even more fun when doing so with friends/opponents to argue the opposite side.

And perfectly, there's this one SyFy movie called "Witchville."

In a way, such a thing exists (kind of): a priori knowledge.

I wish Facebook had colored statuses so i could use red truth in them.

Even worse i wanna find a nerdy guy, get him into umineko, and if i ever get into trouble where he doesnt believe me i want to use lambda's cheesy line from Ep 6
"If you truly love me you will see my words as red truth"

XD.

also

I was gonna say the same thing but i couldnt find an end to that thought line. Bern says she gave Erike blue hair like hers, so what else could have been given.

And you could even say the same thing with beato

Spoiler for beato:

Well, Krauss's name (蔵臼) is 蔵 (warehouse, pronounced KURA) and 臼 (mortar, pronounced USU), overall pronounced KURAUSU.

Eva's name (絵羽) is 絵 (picture, pronounced E) and 羽 (feather, pronounced BA), overall pronounced EBA.

And so with most of the family, except for Battler's (戦人), which is 戦 (war, pronounced SEN) and 人 (person, pronounced JIN/NIN/HITO), overall pronounced BATORA.

He makes a point of this right at the beginning of episode 1, and it's not mentioned again.
