Talk about overpowering. It seemed as though everyone not named Kanade and Mikoto just sat back to watch those two girls unfold against each other. The fact that third place was almost a third of second place's votes makes me wonder if any of the Nova girls are going to put up a fight against Stella's top as ISML continues.

That depends on the calculator. If you were using the simplest kind, then there was good chance you got the answer wrong. If you were using one that waits for you to enter the whole expression before calculator gives you the answers, then you should have been fine. I know that there are many very cheap calculators that let's you write out the whole line before answering.

Necklace matches (group of 7) have always been weird. If your favorite character has no chance to win, then some people won't bother. Instead, they consider who's most likely to win, and vote for the lesser of two evils. So basically, if you vote for your favorite character in this situation, you're admitting that your vote has very little influence on the outcome of the match. And some people have a problem with that.

Wait... so if you get the calculations wrong you end up losing your vote? That doesn't sound like a good idea. Maybe that's why the vote numbers dropped so much?

Expect Mikoto was one of the two lowest SDOs in the match. If anyone should have been abandoned for strategic voting reasons it should have been Mikoto.

The staff has thought about this in great detail after trying multiple captcha. We realize that feedback is the number one tool for bots, and the best way to fight them is to not give feedback. Now the problem becomes what type of captcha is the best we can use?

The biggest issue we found was language. Whatever we use, we have to translate it into as many languages as possible, which is an almost impossible task. But we did find something that is universally accepted, which is roman numeral arithmetic. We find no excuse for people to not be able to do elementary operations, which in most places are learned before grade 4, and we can confidently assume 99% of our voters are of age 10+.

Yes there will be people who are complaining because of change and make silly mistakes, but you have 3 minutes to google your math question. People will get used to it in the future, and come to realize that just for a little bit of inconvenience, we deter many bot multivoting.

Many people prefer our captcha over stuff like this



Or worse, the recaptcha over in China has chinese characters which I hear are impossible to discern when viewing on the phone.

While they still look quite a bit weaker than they did last year, Haruhi and Yuki both bounced by from some pretty awful preliminary round performances. Going by theie regular season strength, these two would probably have a year or two of life left in them but if they continue to perform poorly in preliminaries, this may be their final year. Taiga also seemed to bounce back up from her preliminary performances. On the Nova side it was a bit difficult to gauge some character from only a handful of performances. I wasn't really super impressed with Azuki Azusa but she she's proven me wrong since then. It's a long road ahead but she's got a good shot at making the playoffs. Tsukiko also looks a bit stronger than I initally expected.

Relative to last year, Suguha doesn't look that much worse than before. However, she's fallen a lot from the Suguha who could beat Shiori, Laura and Misaki. I guess she's just the type to do better in preliminaries. Asuna seemed to be the same way. While Date A Live looks great taking the top three spots of Nova and a decent gap between third and fourth, Origami hasn't looked so good. It might seem weird that Kotori is in third after beating Kurumi but that's partially because my model completely ignores same series match ups since they are frequently an outlier result. The top three Date a Live characters don't seem to be too far apart in strength. Eucliwood took a tumble in my stats after that loss to Kanade. Right now its her most recent match so that result is weighed fairly heavily but I expect Eucliwood to recover a bit during the next period. Kuroneko is largely fallen back to her pre-season 2 level of strength leaving Kanade alone at the top again. As great as the Date A Live characters have performed, I wouldn't really say they are on Kanade's level. Also even after Kuroneko's fall she's still consider the third strongest character. Everyone in my top three has already won a Tiara so does that means a repeat winner is inevitible this year?

So if we accidentally submit with incorrect captcha will we be able to vote again? Or will it count as a vote from the ip address, but rejected because of incorrect captcha?

We are going to keep a record about previous votes from IP Address, thus if we have reasons to believe simple honest mistake on submitting answer to the captcha question, we will manually count in the votes.
