I see that the only series really worth watching from this season are Asatte no Houkou, Tokimemo, and Otoboku (at least for me) . Geass lost points because of its attempted subliminal yet blatant Pizza Hut advertisements; this series along with Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge loses merit and viewability because of their massive flaws with both direction and animation. Death Note and Kanon pretty much need to be unsaid, but they're only adaptations of well-known media, so to me they have no merit.

Of course, I'm going tangential to the discussion at hand, but it's sad that Yoake has to fall into an ineluctable mediocrity: I once hoped that it didn't, but it did. It started with the cabbages ...

I once thought as you did but I understand they had limited time to
mess with this story and so what could have been imbued with depth
and meaning only has glancing blows in that direction. So I'm giving
them a bit of a break due to that. I fully agree about your assessments
on Asatte no Houkou and Tokimeki (although I'm seeing a repeating
sameness in some areas in the latter series, I'm digging the former
due to the elegant and spare emulation of the world of Honey and
Clover even down to the same kind of musical vignettes).

Okay. The parts that lead me to believe this could have a lot of interesting
depth:

If Feena saw no way out and simply opted to contact Master Carbon
herself and say "I see no way to make this work, please take care of
him. I bow out gracefully.." then retreating to the moon and having
her spies occasionally giving her reports on how his life is proceeding
and watching from a distance - ah, the unrequitedness could be
exquisitely sorrowful! For both of them. And you could have Natsuki
wondering if he is thinking of Feena when they are together and you
would never really know.

And he'd be out in the yard looking at the full moon and Natsuki
would be looking out at him and she'd shed a single tear and it
would just be brutal. Enough of that idea.

Another possibility is that the reason for the Gothic-loli is that if the
earth and the moon have good relations (a royal pair that come from
each location) then there's no way to divide them. And when you
have two groups of people divided it's easier to conquer them.

I'm thinking the potential suitor to Feena is probably is on it too. In
other words, if Feena and Tatsuya stay together and relations between
the two worlds normalize then it will be harder to conquer them if they
are unified.

I suspect Gothic-loli is an agent for some kind of alien world hence the
UFO spotted in the photo shown briefly earlier in the series.

It seems pretty transparent to me. Can't wait for the next episode
where we have the couple indulging in the romantic side for a while.

exactally! knowing tatsuya's heart belongs to feena there is no point for natsuki to keep on fighting for him...it would save a lot of tears in the future to just accept what is going on...

and about wreath...imo i think she is sent to split up tatsuya and feena because of what happened in the past (presumably a princess falling in love with an earthling and doom befelled on both of them and the rest of the world/moon)...to stop history from repeaing itself wreath was sent to sort things out...
i dont really think of wreath as an alien...just someone with supernatural powers i guess.

I like episode 8 both Feena and Tatsuya have admitted their feelings for one another and vow to stick together no matter what. This is a very complicated situation it doesnt just have to do with something like parents not approving the fate of two nations are at stake in a way the same problem presents its self like it did in Romeo and Juliet. I do find it comforting that all of their close friends are pulling for them and Tatsuyas sister is even willing to shame her self to help her brother. I feel things will only get more complicated especially when Feenas father and Finace find out about this. I beleive Tatsuya has the strength to stand by Feena as queen. The little girl with blonde hair i cant remeber her name right now the one that has been watching them with that voice speaking to her. She is going to be problem my only guess is too why that voice does not want them together would fear of a 4th war errupting but then also Tatsuya is a commoner and we all know that royalty usaully do not take commners as suiters.

Comments on, and spoilers for, episode 9...

Spoiler for Episode 9:

I think various people more or less "called it" in terms of this episode; the name of the game is, of course, "obstacles". Wreathlit finally reveals her purpose in being there by transforming into Fiacca and attacking Tatsuya with the intent to kill (both him and the relationship by proxy). Meanwhile, our evil fiance plays on the King's doubts about Karen's report and sucks up to the King by promising to take care of the troubling situation (which means that, next scene, we see Karen being placed under arrest). The purpose of it all is, of course, to harden the couple's resolve and determination. By the end of the episode, looking over the injured Tatsuya and having received the news of Karen's capture from the now-defused Fiacca, Feena's definitely pretty pissed off (a bit beyond "royal indignation", I'd say). Next episode looks like Feena's going to start setting things straight (which, the previews seem to hint at, will mean finally beating that stuck-up fiance at kendo once and for all).

So, a step forward. Feena and Tatsuya get a lot of nice moments together early on in the episode (Feena's got a new shine to her, and everyone notices), and we're treated to Feena's insert song while she waits for Tatsuya to arrive on their date. That opening, the flashbacks, and the other "loose-end-tying" that's going on (along with the revealing of Fiacca) were basically the last transition into the final arc. Three episodes left for the couple to defeat the evil fiance, convince the King and all the other PTB of their relationship without starting a new galactic war, and to actually kiss without getting interrupted once and for all. No sweat; all in a day's work!

What relentlessflame said. Personally, I loved the episode (see spoiler). But the animation was atrocious, with characters' appearance changing as if you were in a hall of mirrors at a carnival. The credits show a new cast of genga and animators, as far as I can tell, with a new set of Korean names, and none of the companies -- good or bad -- that I remember from previous episodes. I hasten to add that there are anime this season where Korean names mean great work, but not here. I think what this anime proves is that there are limits to how many subcontractors you can use.

The intensification of the conflict, the appearance of the cool new evil twin, Karen's honorable intensity and her arrest on the orders of prince touch-me-not -- and especially more lovey-dovey, with every Earth character aware and on board.

And a new insert song well sung by Feena (Nabatame Hitomi).

Aye, there's a lot of *great* korean animation work --- but apparently other factors keep driving such a huge number of subcontracts in this series --- lowest bid trumps in all cases I suppose. they don't seem to have established any relationships with a few shops like most series do.
episode comments and minor 'rant'

I'm kind of scratching my head at the "arrest" of Karen and how that would even works -- it struck me more as hostage taking and a sign that the government processes on the Moon are broken due to a distracted/inept/weak king. Just beating the prince at kendo is highly unlikely to prevent anything --- I'd be more incliined to think Feena is going to have to go "grassroots populist" and appeal to the population.
I'm kind of getting the feeling here that there is more 'story meat' than they have remaining time budget for --- and that they really should have started this about two episodes earlier. They have might produced some really interesting court intrigue (ala Dune or the middle part of Utawarerumono) for our almost-couple to deal with.

Spoiler for about Karen and some game stuff:

Karen's one of the highest ranked people in the embassy. If she doesn't do her job right, the politics all the way back on the moon will affect her as well.

In the game, the king recieved a report from another earth source that Feena was investigating something that caused her mother, Queen Cephilia, to fall out of favor in politics big time. Karen clearly sides with the deceased Cephilia, and thus Feena, on this matter. Of course, this doesn't sit well with the politicians up on the moon that think they know it all and they pressure the king to temporarily relieve Karen of her duties and stop Feena and Tatsuya's investigation(Tatsuya got a beating in one part).

at the very root of this is a very basic idea for this entire mess: You fear what you don't understand. The big wigs on the moon thought Cephilia was looking for weaponry when she was actually looking for something to further the peaceful relationship between the Earth and the Moon. The king was misinformed in the case of Cephilia's downfall, not to mention there isn't much of an opposing party on the matter. He is merely taking actions to prevent Feena from walking the same path of her mother.

thanks for the backfill of data.... too bad this sort of stuff isn't really getting into the anime. It doesn't really improve my view of the king though ... one might argue he sacrificed his wife to placate the other clans (aka politicians) rather than try to find out the truth or that he is so weak he is getting more bad information than good. Shakespearean drama...

well, we'll see if they manage to inject any of that into the show or if beating prince at kendo is all it takes to win the day (aiee).

The main thing is that Cephilia's case was a complete mistrial. I mean, how is she supposed to show evidence when she hasn't found the key part of the equation? well as expected wreath finally acts and the truth about her is revealed...she turns into her alternate form felanca and attempt to destroy tatsuya...good thing she reconsidered
i think she will play a role in helping out tatsuya in the final eps...hmm maybe even sacraficing herself to save him...i duno its a long shot but i would like to see such an act

as for animation and the quality of this ep...lets just say that i hope they are saving up for the grand finale...but wreath was drawn well at least...

Enjoyed this episode whole heartedly. Watching Feena and Tatsuya together was something iv had been waiting for. YOu can truly tell they love each as Tatsuya protected Feena when Wreath attacked. Also the look of determination in their eyes showed that they will not be torn apart. When Feena screamed "dont take away my love" my heart skipped a beat, it seemed so real and i identified with what Feena was feeling.

I find it Ironic that Wreath wants to stop a war that would cost lives by taking another life. I really didnt understand when she talked about who she truly was. So i guess shes a spirit that represents the lives that were lost in the war, i thought she was a cyborg or something.

Looks like Jurgen has made his move i had to admit it was pretty good to take away Karen and accuse of her of being traitor. This removes the biggest influence on the king about Tatsuyas and Feenas relationship. History has shown that even if you are not a traitor being accused of one can be just as damaging. Even Karen survives being the scape goat she will lose creadibilty allowing Jurgen to assert him self and turn public opinion as well as the king in his favor. Im wondering what this training he mentioned is all about.

Ep 8.

That almost, almost started getting dramatic and momentous, but then they blew it with a silly "match" that made no sense, QUALITY animation, terrible comedy and laughable dialogue... which I should almost be used to from this series by now. The interrupted kiss (as if we haven't had enough of these throughout the entire history of anime) was just the icing on the cake.

Ep 9.

Holy crap, and I thought the last ep was QUALITY. The plot's actually starting to get slightly interesting, though still predictable. Even with the plot twist in this ep, it's never actually gotten overly ridiculous (if we momentarily ignore some of the events in the filler eps), which may save it in the end (well, as much as it can be saved between now and the final eps... it's like trying to revive the few remaining survivors in a massive train crash). The characters are still boring though, IMO. They've hardly made an attempt to flesh them out other than a few flashbacks and I'd even say you could interchange them with any other generic leads in shounen romance anime and it'd hardly change a thing in the plot. Terrible animation is still what is hurting this the most, though. That and the unnecessary comic relief. Hopefully that'll go away in the remaining eps.

I finally manage to watch ep. 8. I must say it was pretty romantic. I like the atmosphere on the end...too bad it got interrupted. I guess the kissing scene will be reserved at the moon then hm? As for ep. 9, I'm guessing that...

Jurgen might be planning to take the throne by using Feena. Well, he is a earth-hater after all. I'm guessing that removing Karen is making him one step closer to his goal on taking Feena and the Moon Kingdom itself.

Good lord, i am usualy not the one to bitch about animation, but this one was an eyesore. Seriously, the production team must have had their crack stash re-suplied. Either that or they used a second hand animation team. The eye size did not match at some points At one scene Feenas hands did not have fingers . Aside from Wreath(who was done rather well in her true form) this was horrible.

Ok, so at least we know who was the voice that Wreath was talking to - Felanca. Ok, il buy the 'spirit of the people lost in the last war' for now... tho it seems rather strange. I almost laughed at her attempt to cut tatsuya with leaves In the end she decided to wait a bit... i still say she will be the one to help in the end - maybe she will discover how Mr Evil Prince feels about earth (wants it destroyed) and realizing that his marriage with Feena will give him enough power to actually start executing his plans will go after him and kill his lame @ss.

karen arrested = WTF? I Wonder what is the charge. Looked more like evil prince's(CBA to remember his name) henchmen taking her hostage rather than anything else. (that guard even had an evil grin on his face ). The king is a spineless idiot aparantly.

3 eps left... they will have to kick it in to lightspeed to solve everything in 3 eps. I fear it will be extremely rushed(No, i do not have confidence in this story to play out well)... only scenario they can come up with that wouldn't feel rushed would be for Wrath to kill of all the antagonists and no one would be left to interfear

Biggest gripe about the ep - animation quality. I am interested in how they are going to resolve this in 3 eps, but i am not holding any high hopes.
