That's exactly why I stopped reading this, after I got a bit bored and tried to read Yankee-kun for a while I lost any hope in this story.

And the fact that I liked Shiraishi at the beginning didn't help

I stopped reading this shortly after Yamada had to join the new student counsel, but did Shiraishi's character change at some point?

I'm asking because I liked Shiraishi as the female MC back when I used read this.

Yes, that wad really WTF plot test it contradicting every fact established in this manga.
I finally understand why the dull lighthearted series Yankee-kun and Megane could ran over 23 volume that because author dragged the story heck long

This isn't a surprise at all. It's needed to end for a long time but this ending is ugly.

Yes, that's what I'm expected. To be honest, after some events this become ugly and there is no reason to continue this manga (like third set of witches and etc.)

I don't think it deserved a better development I think it deserved a better focus. I mean this began to be a harem with all the girls you added to the picture. Plus the duplicity got old.

Do you think the author intentionally to flat out her story or she don't know how to properly handle her story?
Given we have so many half-baked unfinished mystery in Yamada with the author stretched out for Yamada go get memories ritual and his relationship with Shiraishi ignored the other unaddressed plot such as : Dark Takuma, the unsatisfied Seven male witch seeker quest which flipped by ceremony, the witch killer, the president council before Takuma and so on.

Well, I think that she had some ideas, but when she past first group of witches, she just lost a bit in her own story. And after the second group of the witches, we see really good that she is not able handle story anymore. I admit that I like romance, and I ship from the start Yamada x Shiraishi, but all around them was just half baked. Sometimes it makes me think if we even can call it a relationship.

I'd like to think that as well, Dark Takuma probably her random idea to made small twist on Takuma because back in the early introduction of Takuma had the malice threat introduction by Miyamura warned Yamada and other about him but somehow along the story progress this threat came unreal and Miyamura just went chill out for Takuma after that warning like he had forgotten that.
Put Dark Takuma into small plot twist was a mistake by the author because Dark Takuma hold a significant big plot to not adressed, for at least she need to further expanded Dark Takuma background a bit before completely banished him.

and also confirm the author belong to same category with Cage of Eden author and Air Gear author, the mangaka's who don't know how handle their story pace.

Miki Yoshikawa should do a short-series in the future
write 1-2 arc is safe area for her but do not let her to write more than that or she will lost again.

To be honest, I expect Shiraishi's letter to contain something along the lines of her asking Yamada to save her, because she has a curse or something and only her true love or some cheesy thing is able to lift the curse, aka the witch powers. So she deliberately left Yamada's memories about her intact and waits for his prince to save her etc. :S

And about the whole Yamada x Shiraishi ship...
Sorry, but they are hella boring together. Or became boring together? Who knows? All I know is that whenever the author pulls the same scene about Yamada panicking about something, Shiraishi giving him the cold shoulder, Yamada further panicking, then Shiraishi turning over and smiling in a giant ass panel, or taking the whole page, assuring Yamada that she is not mad, because she is Yamada-kun, I feel like facepalming every damn time. Those repetitive scenes are like 90% percent of their relationship. They are together, Yamada is kind, Shiraishi is kind and that's about it. Nothing ever changes, it was done deal from chapter 1, they were fated to get together. But don't worry Nene fans. Yoshikawa-sensei was nice enough to give you a lot of baits over the course of the series. The biggest offender was the "Yamada's past girlfriend" bait. You got a group of Ushio, Yamada, Nancy, Nene and Himekawa. Yamada rejected Nancy, Himekawa cries that Yamada likes some other girl, so the logical conclusion would be Nene. But Yoshikawa-sensei strikes again and it's Shiraishi, magically becoming part of their past. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Ulin is right. It's very much the same thing as Yankee Kun and Megane. At the end of the day it comes down to the fact that it was poor execution. The story was very gimicky to begin with and let's see what happens in the end
