Just a quick final question as to the 2003 tournament. I was looking at the results and the vote tallies are way, way down, often as low as 150 or so for a winner, could anyone care to enlighten me as to why that happened?

Ithekro, Thank You for that reply. It Just looked weird as compared to nowadays where 150 votes would never get you to round three let alone the final 8.

Only the Japanese were voting for it on 2ch. No one outside the country probably knew about it and reliable internet connection were not as common yet (I was still on dialup in 2003).

Just remember to get your cardboard orders filled out by May as well. To avoid disappointment.

Now that SaiMoe has ended I would like to end this with a conclusion

CONGRATS TO AZU-NYAN!

She really dominated the competition. Since round 1. Even her match with Misaka Mikoto because she technically had a split there. Azusa really deserves this. Kinda like Taiga last year. Her raw power was just stunning to see in all of her matches.

Interesting things about this years competition:
Hina assassinated AGAIN.
Haruhi got beaten by Komoe Sensei.
Saki still has not reach the 1000 mark.
Saki got choked again.
Supposedly three-way block finals ended up into who's gonna get bus'd
Split fail
Nadeko wins over Yui
E block finals
Nagi as the runner-up again.
Eerily similar semifinal with last year.
Eerily similar final with last year.
Kugyuu-versus K-on final part II
K-on thriumps!

Dissapointments:
Slow start in Round 1
3-way block final fail.
Somehow most of everything after the Block Finals ended up with wins with a large margin of victory.
Angel beats/Bakemonogatari dissapointment.
Mafuyu over Hitagi (Still sour about that)
Tits in the semifinals AGAIN.

Anyway this is one heck of a year with all that rage and shit. I did love it to bits though. Im gonna miss this.

For next year I already have 5 characters Im planning to root for:
Kuroneko
Ika-musume
Maya(Occult)
Saeko(HotD)
Narrator(Ookami)

If Ami, Taiga and Minori get nominated next year because of their cameos, I'll have a hard time choosing my characters. Nino and Sawako will be back too. AARGH. W8 tenshi and and the railgun girls especially biri-biri will be back next year too. AHH SO MUCH FUN NEXT YEAR. CAN'T WAIT!

TIL NEXT YEAR
AHELO

Best end is best. Congrats to Azusa on a well-deserved win. Now to sit back and await the movie. ^_^

Also, my prediction for next year is that Kirino and Kuroneko of OreImo will both have decently strong showings.

Edit: Just realized, this makes three years in a row now (Kagami in '08 and Taiga in '09) where I approve of the winner of SaiMoe. Bonus!

I think Nagi can be officially called the Crownless Queen of Saimoe. She's like the Netherlands in the World Cup.

Poor Nagi, a second lost final

Though, however much I hate K-On!(!), Azu-nyan is one of the cutest anime characters out there, despite her occasional annoying outbursts

Anyway, next year ... for Hyakka Ryouran girls and Saeko (well, no chance ... really) or Elsia or Sora or Moonlight or Ika-musume or Mikan or the girl from Hatsu-inu that showed up at MM!

But who am I kidding ... Nymph should steal the contest as all episodes of Otoshimono, since she appeared

Saeko, and Hyakka won't stand much of a chance. Boobs. Maybe the loli from HSOTD and the Rie loli from Hyakka. it will be the usual assortmant of whatever Key or KyoAni show is playing. Mio may have the best chance at an oppai character winning J Saimoe, but she probably missed her chance losing last year when the show was more Mio focused. I predict Kuroneko will go further then imouto girl. MM sadist girl will probably do well.

Even so, we never know if there will be an eye-catching anime in the coming winter and spring. I'll wait until then before I figure out who I will vote for/predict will be in next year.

I never heard of Saimoe until the 2006 season. By this point, I have a feeling a huge contingent of 4channers already knew about it... made DESU a meme... and in turn, got Suiseiseki to win. For massive trolling.

At least, that's my theory. Can anyone verify this?

Until 2004, Saimoe was mostly 2chan affair. In 2005, some people in Lyrical Nanoha Threads and some others in Rozen maiden threads decided to do something to make sure their favorite character would win. This lead to many people campaigning for their characters in different websites, and it quickly grew to be rather large event.

http://saimoe.wikia.com/wiki/Saimoe

Creation and spread of Anime Saimoe Tournament
In 2002, people in 2chan grew curious at what might be the result of unbiased poll of characters from all the anime series, as none of the polls up to that time could be called as such, thus started the Saimoe. It was supposed to be fair poll, open to anyone interested. The tenure of the poll changed in 2005 as people in Lyrical Nanoha Thread and Rozen Maiden Thread started rallying people within their thread to do whatever it takes for their characters to win. The 'war' between two threads led to increase in voting due to the thread members asking for votes in many different websites, which eventually made the international community aware of the event. It also made the Saimoe website offer English help to the non-Japanese voters.

Well, one thing that I am noting: the peak of the DESU meme did overlap Saimoe that year.
