There's a five-page spread in the recent Dengeki G's magazine that gives some details about the game.
The gameplay seems much like a normal action RPG (you can customize your equipment, skills, etc.), and they've preserved the sword skills and "switch" mechanic from the original story. From what I can gather, most of the battles will occur in parties of two. You have a certain amount of skill points in your battle turn (to use sword skills), and then you can switch out and the partner takes over while you can only use defensive skills (like parrying, side step, etc.). I assume that your skill points will recharge during this period, and when the other person's skill points run out you'll switch back. And yes, there will be boss fights too. No date has been announced yet, but I would guess we'll see it in early 2013. I'm not sure if it'll be able to stand on its own as a really great RPG, but it should still be fun for fans of the franchise.

...ah crap, looks like I'll need to go and learn Japanese. Either that or pray for Aksys Games to localise it. Which then means I'll need to buy it. With no money.
...don't really need two kidneys, do I? Anybody want a kidney for sale? :P It's kinda good to see that even as the PSP's heyday is past, developers are still making games for it...

True, that. I probably should have made that clear.
Then again, I'm holding my PSP-1000 series - yep, the Phat PSP - and I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. (Well, maybe the battery. And a new memory stick.) Anyhow, from what seen, I figure this is probably playable enough, for a given value of playable, even if users can't read japanese, though so much of it is story.... *prays for Aksys Games to localise*

This is slightly off-topic, but I think they should really make an SAO game for the PlayStation Move or Kinect. Only makes sense that you get to control a character and activate his/her Sword Skills with the motion controller.

A real VR named SAO would have been awesome... but I guess that's close to impossible, both to implement financially... and implement since we all know what SAO does to our heads.
/back to related stuff? It seems from the trailer that Kirito's gonna solo all bosses up to the last floor 100.

The game starts at the 75th floor. It's an alternate re-telling based on that key battle ending differently, and then the events that would follow. You can partner with Asuna, Lisbeth, or Silica at various points.
