I think this answer your issue: https://youtu.be/lOA75tMAR_Y?t=58 The launch catapult is built into the hanger door directly and used only to carry the fighters to the their launch position. There is always a one "plate" space, so when the aft loading mechanism rotates the next panel travels to the other side while the previous one travels upward. |

New images from some of the artists involved. 1. Shot of the Yamato with what seems like its skin missing. (Makoto Kobayashi) 2. Space Battleship Andromeda (Junichiro Tamamori) 3. Cometine Battleship (Taui Ishizu)

One more image from an interview with the head writer Harutoshi Fukui.
Art by designer Makoto Kobayashi Is it me, or is that battleship really freaking huge compared to its original size? Kirishima is like 205 meters long to Yamato's new 333 meters long. Just how big is this battleship? Is it being blown up by a wave motion gun?

yamato2202.net update looks to confirm that Akira Miyagawa will return for the musical score. Assuming that is what the Japanese says.
It will be organ time again soon. And he has experience with those themes from his starting days.

Also Ticonderoga.
Non-Far East Region ships The hull number on all three end with 2201. In the old version, Yamato was M-21991 while Okita's ship was M-2174 and Kodai's ship was M-218817, or something like that EDIT: Could be it was just faster to built on existing design while retooling for Wave Motion Gun equipped ships like Andromeda? If I had more information...and time, I could rework my concept of a Yamato 2202 version of the Battle of Saturn I'm going to run at a convention in September. I'm using a small group of Earth ships and Gamilas ships verses Comet Empire ships. All the Earth ships have wave motion shielding, but Yamato and Andromeda have superior shielding. I also threw in a back-teched Arizona as the American built space battleship. She's more on par with Yamato and Andromeda, like a cross between them. I even found a source on Shapeways of a ship roughly in scale with the Star Blazers miniatures that resembles the old UNCF Murasame cruisers. The some person does something the resembles a Kongo, but is way too big to fit in. (would be over twice the size of Andromeda).

Hopefully they were the remaining non-Far East Region ships that were survivors or still under construction in 2199. The hull numbers don't all seem to end in 2201, but that is really hard to see at this resolution.

Also you need a well trained crew for the ships to operate and good efficiency, after the planet bombs and meteor strikes the human population was drastically reduced. Maybe there were not enough well trained crew for the ships as well, and we know what happens if the nation have the necessary industrial capacity but lack manpower to fight (Japan late WW2, lack of trained pilots for aircrafts and thus for carriers as well)
I wonder how much population Earth lost during this period? I assume before the war begun Earth had around 8-9 billion, with another 0.5-1 billion on the various colonies in the solar system meaning roughly 10 billion. |

If we assume high casualties, which is likely from the state Earth was in after eight years of war and I suppose five years of planet bombing, I would guess there are maybe a billion humans left on Earth.
Though even half that is enough to field a decent sized navy as shown in World War Two. The training programs seem to still be in effect given the age of most of Yamato's crew. What they will lack are experienced officers and older enlisted personnel. They had I think five people over the age of 30 on Yamato that we could identify. Trained crews and manpower won't be as much the issue, but a lack of experienced commanders. You can turn out a set of sailors that will be able to keep the ship going smoothly within a year...but not a capable combat ready vessel for fleet actions. That may be were the automation mentioned in Yamato 2 comes in. The Andromeda was highly automated in that series. The guns and engine room were largely run by machines. Sanada complained about it from the idea that people make the machines work and robotic crews were not an answer. "Be Forever, Yamato" also had an automated Earth fleet that was controlled by remote from Earth, but it was also easily destroyed in that film. I don't recall that fleet even returning fire it was overwhelmed so quickly. As well as the control base was attacked during the battle. What didn't come up in Yamato 2 was the Earth's population was dramatically reduced after the war. In fact Yamato 2 almost made it look like Earth had forgotten about the war within a year of Yamato's return.

What I mean by that is a fleet where Andromeda, the Borodino, and perhaps a few of the larger ships are rare in the fleet and relatively new and the current 2202 fleet's bulk are ships that Earth would have had to make quickly. Considering that Yamato returned with knowledge of the Gatlantis forces invading the Milky Way, the Earth would not doubt have used existing designs in 2200 and perhaps 2201 to built an emergency fleet while the newer ships were being designed and/or going through testing/trials. I would also surmise that these EDF types use Garmilas technology and possibly a Gershon (spelling?) Drives. Or this might be the Solar System defense fleet and the newer ships are the Interstellar craft. All kinds of possibilities exist.

Hiroshi Ban , on Facebook, mentions the following:
"The third one. The coating is when "Mission to regain The 8th Gamilasia" was ongoing. Hm." We don't know what that means. Could there have been other floating continents in the Sol System with hold out Gamilas forces that did not stand down? Or was Defiant a ship done before Yamato got back and they used her against the remaining Gamilas forces in the Sol System? The text could probably stand to be translated.

I wonder if that is a reference to a fleet? Like the 7th American fleet for example. Zenseava has referenced Gamilas craft as Gamilasian before, so I wonder if this reference by Hiroshi Ban is similar. Spoiler for example of Zenseava nomenclature for Gamilas craft:
Even if these ships were used during the pre-Yamato mission (2199), what do they have to do with Yamato 2202? I am of the opinion that these references are either for some type of backstory (like for new crew members or just a quick history of the years 2200 and 2201 for fans), or these ships are part of the EDF forces when the Gatlantis fleet begins invading Earth's area of the galaxy. If the new 2202 is anything like Arrivederci Space Battleship Yamato Soldiers of Love, then a lot of EDF ships are going to get wiped out. We also have Yamato with her own fleet of ships going on the mission to Telezart. It would make a lot more sense for a fleet of older ships (that are not as important to the defense of Earth) would go with Yamato on that mission. In episode 20 of Yamato 2, we see the Yamato with her escort of space battleship carriers, and other ships. Spoiler for Yamato with carriers flanking and fighters.:
Now I know this is just pure speculation on my part, but, I wonder is Yamato will have a fleet of older ships follow her to Telezart? To me, the EDF not having enough Andromeda class ships (only 1), very few Borodino class battleships, and still a relatively small cosmo navy would play a role in keeping as many of their 1st-line warships in the Sol system to deal with Gatlantis. Just a few thoughts on my part that I concede are fan-speculations. New Gatlantis ship from Zenseava. Spoiler for large image:

Which may happen again.
One assumes they'll be stealing Yamato to take her to Telezart without escorts. That's sort of what we think the primary Yamato 2202 promotional art is depicting, Yamato breaking free from her Earth dock. But the primary reason I wanted them to do this series (aside from it being a very good story arc) is to see the Earth fleet in action. One assumes at Saturn. Since we've seen what Yamato can do alone, it be interesting to see what a fleet of similarly designed ships can do, and just what someone has to bring into the battle to defeat them. Of course if the fleet is mostly made up of older Earth style ships, that won't happen as much. I do so want a proper fleet battle. The Battle of Pluto showed us they can do that, and The Ark of the Stars shows they can make a battle that shows both sides doing stuff at the same time. Unlike the original versions were only one size at a time would effectively be doing anything in a battle. One-sided fights get the point across, but don't look nearly as cool. Like having the Earth fleet open fire once, miss and then get shot down in all the return fire, without seeing the Earth ships fire again, just won't work anymore. The Earth ships should at least continue fighting, and, if they are using shock cannons like Yamato, should hit and kill at least some of the enemy ships before being destroyed by whatever powerful weapon the enemy ships are using.

Thanks for the correction. Quote:
That would--in my opinion--help revive the feeling of hopelessness that the original Arrivederci Yamato movie created at its finale.
