Episode 5 was peak Golden Kamuy, with a very silly and hilarious first half focusing a lot on dicks, and an emotional and serious second half focusing on Asirpa's family, what her father wanted for her, and what she wishes to do.

I guess I should have expected Koito's reaction to the reveal Tsurumi completely manipulated him.
Interesting development on both Tsurumi and Hijikata's side. They both think they have the upper hand over the other, and I'd say Hijikata is the one who is right. He completely saw through Tsurumi's scheme, and in fact got him to move as he wanted. Or did he? Shiraishi actually made some very good points at the end of the episode. Sugimoto doesn't get to decide what is best for Asirpa, she's grown enough to choose her own path. And he truly is an idiot if he thinks Tsurumi will just let her go if she gives him the key to the code. He's far more likely to kill her after she tells him so she'll never be able to tell anyone else.

Koito's reaction to learning about Tsurumi using him is pretty expected. It really shows how devoted he is and how effective Tsurumi's methods are.
Shirashi was pretty spot on with his rant. Sugimoto deciding he knows what's best for Asirpa and not taking her own agency into consideration is pretty dismissive of her, and makes his criticisms of Wilk a bit hypocritical.

Episodes 7-12 delayed indefinitely due to the 11/1 passing of an "indispensable staff member" as yet unnamed. Terrible news on every level. I guess we'll know more when we know more, but I sincerely hope this is not some sort of MAPPA scenario.

While this is tragic, I'm now curios, who could be so crucial for the team that it halted the whole production and they can't be replaced within a couple of weeks. If someone like director or the main scriptwriter died, they would not hide it probably.

For them to delay the rest of the series, it has to be someone in a pretty high position like the chief animation director. If not, there's likely a deeper problem.

Returns in April (a shame it isn't winter, which looks wafer thin), starting with Episode 1.
I can't help but think there's something more to this story than what we've been told. Tragic certainly, but there are things here that just don't make sense.

Anyway, good to have a date to look forward to. I'm seeing more of these cases of broadcasts being stopped halfway, and I'm hoping it's working out better for the production staff than the conventional way of plowing through to meet the airing date with a substandard product and then make corrections for the BD.
