Despite the fact that the OVA is rather abridged, seeing Kanna's ordeal being animated is most gratifying... in more ways than one *cough* :iuhoh:

Series sounds great, from what I read about it
Will watch the Ova now and see if it's really that good. Also, noticing some nice twintail content here (scroll down to Makino Kotori) http://koegoto.com/archives/category/character I wonder why mangatron hasn't already jumped on this?

Wow! Pretty powerful stuff, even by Japanese standards. This had to be an OVA. No way this would get on television (but come back in two years?). In Amerika this story would constitute sexual exploitation and egregious contribution to the delinquency of a minor, carrying heavy legal penalties. And a comedy about it would be considered like a Manson family sitcom or a 9/11 bloopers reel.
And by her sister. In the show they admit the illegality of what she's doing, but claim they it's a common occurrence in the industry. I didn't dislike the show, but I didn't laugh once. I was shocked a number of times. No MOSAIC.WAV music.

Well that's a good point. Values vary so much and I don't really know what is "acceptable" in Japan. I know Kodomo no Jikan made onto TV in Japan, albeit heavily censored. But then, two television stations — TV Saitama and Mie TV — removed it from their broadcast schedules because a notorious Japanese child pornographer who was revealed to be an elementary school vice principal was captured. The last episode of School Days was "nice boated" for similar reasons.
In Amerika, of course, everything is different. The guy who bought Kodomo no Jikan actually chickened out of publishing it because he knew it would create problems. I believe Koe no Oshigoto would receive a similar reception. And yet the School Days episode could be watched by the youngest child or most paranoid parent without blinking an eye. I guess just the fact that it's an OVA rather than a series makes me think that the makers didn't think it acceptable for TV.

^OVA's tend to focus on quality over quantity though, right ? It might have nothing to do it with being acceptable or not .. but guess we'll never know. You may be right though, I forgot that Kanna is only 16 and was quite explicit .. I haven't seen Kodomo no Jikan though so I can't compare.

Kodomo no Jikan is about a 9 year old girl whose behavior is outrageously sexual. She's constantly trying to seduce and sexually embarass her teacher. And yet there are interesting story elements and humor. I liked it.
The "explicit" sex in Yosuga no Sora I find neither stimulating nor romantic. It's wooden, pointless, and merely obligatory. It doesn't offend me, it just bores and embarasses me (for cheapening the story). I find my reaction to Koe no Oshigoto interesting. This show bothers me. And the reason is the coercive element. This is not little Rin running around having fun being provocative or Haru's multiple sleazy first loves. This girl is being "forced" (I know, I know) by a trusted and relied-on family member into illegally performing acts that she finds perverse and degrading. Is it OK because she's just doing the audio portion? Well it's not AS bad, but it's still bad. Sure the older sister is doing it to help the family. But coercing your underage sister into it? And she wanted to enlist her when she was much younger. I assume she sees nothing wrong in it. Many sex workers have this detached attitude to their work. You can already see our heroine dissociating her personality to cope, as many victims of sexual abuse do. I don't mean to get heavy on this. I'm just analysing why it bothers me. And I didn't see any jokes or redeeming story points either. This is a comedy, right?

Well I laughed at couple scenes but mostly just cause they were so outrageous. I definitely don't dislike this but I don't really know what else to say .. I guess I'll just wait for more .. if there's more.
I agree with what you said on Yosuga no Sora. I followed it for couple episodes but once we got to the sex .. pointless sex on each episode, I had to drop it.

It is a 2 (or 4) oav short serie, probably to promote the manga that still undergoing. I find it hilarious and funny as comedy, sad that the next episode will be released only the next year.
8/10 for now. Last edited by Fnights; 2010-11-17 at 20:00. |

That was quite the 30 minute trip. I never thought I'd find an anime that I was feeling embarrassed watching alone. Even Kodomo no Jikan and Seikon no Qwaser were less irksome to watch. 10/10
Nice touch with her calling the 'childhood friend' onii-chan the whole time. I'm sad that since this is an OVA it means that there won't be a less censored version, the imagery was fine they way it was, but the audio... Things she was saying getting bleeped out here and there kinda took away from some of the feel. /shrug I'm also going to ignore the stick-up-the-butt puritans' comments on this show. No matter which way I try to look at it, for what it was presenting, it presented it perfectly. |

Well, it's not like Kanna is being forced to have sex even if we do consider there is probably an ulterior motive on part of that dodgy older brother/childhood friend character. It feels more like she's becoming aware of sexuality and the comedy is in how stupidly perverse and willing she seems to be. Aside from her fantasies, Kanna is fully clothed in the whole episode; consider how this measures to teen idols who do gravure shoots in skimpy bikinis or "artfully" nude. With Kodomo no Jikan you have a kid who shouldn't even have the physiological basis to even be aware of sexuality trying to seduce someone, which I find infinitely more disturbing. That being said, I haven't read the source so I'm basing my opinion on this episode's material. |

Holy cow! Of all the eechi anime out there this one takes the cake. I hard to turn off my speakers right at the very beginning cause I had younger siblings in the house. Then I had to close the door because they're showing some *ahem* hand service and piston movement.
