Im not really all that interested in their version of naval warfare, so that part wasnt all
that exciting. (the battles are generally one sided as the good guys are always working
from a position of total ignorance while the bad guys seem to know everything about them.) Another thing is that I would have expected 4 torpedoes to wreck that ship.
i guess I would not have liked seeing a whole ship full of cute girls being immolated,
but thats what would have happened. (one reason you dont fill warships full of cute girls
in real life)

hopefully the next ep will be better. (as in more emotional/romantic stuff and tappuri fanservice)

No plot development? Huh. Lots and lots and lots of character development there was, though - even if I can't understand enough Japanese to figure out what it was. The XO yelling at the captain and the short-haired girl buying it, for instance.

About the torps, it all depends on what kind they were - you'd be hard pressed to sink any surface vessel outright with lightweight anti-submarine torpedos, of the types used by aircraft and ships today, and it's getting even more difficult due to hulls being designed to resist mines (which have bigger warheads).

Heavyweight torpedos like those launched directly from submarines are another story entirely - those were designed to take out carriers in one or two shots. Had the Pascal Mage taken four of those to the keel, pieces of it would have ended up in orbit...

The captain was stressing over her little brother, and giving dumb commands.
(using active sonar or something silly like that) the XO yelled at her for the first time ever,
so she snapped out of it. I still wouldnt call it plot development :P

I agree this is like Vandread on some aspects. Generally, a good plot takes awhile to heat up, and if no one watches to that point, no one makes any money, so they add in lots of shots of explosions, undergarments, and the contents of said undergarments. The problem is of course how worthwhile the plot is and whether it is still easy to see through all those boobs and guns. Vandread treaded on the edge at spots, but came out very good imho. Hopefully this will do the same. The idea's interesting enough, esp. if they can come up w/ some explanation for WHY there's a giant megatyphoon sitting in one spot for decades w/out weakening.
I'll admit the CG's aren't QUITE as perfectly meshed into the animation as in some series, but after seeing Megami Kouhousei, I can't say anything bad about it. Animation is good, just not on the level of some.
I've only seen up to subbed ep3. Can someone tell me something: did I mishear it, or did the doctor actually refer to the captain's "hitori no S M no hibi" as she tried to smother her?
BTW, everyone calls Hyousuke and Nanami bro/sis, but for those who haven't seen it, they're unrelated. It's pitiful to see a guy like Hyousuke be referred to by his love interest as a "little brother". I've seen a few male leads in harems that didn't seem hopelessly pathetic, but this guy actually seems to be a total reverse of the stereotype. He's sane, intelligent, athletic, polite, and he even seems to have control over his hormones. Unlike almost any other harem lead, you can actually feel bad for him when the girls try to make his life hell.

Hyosuke admits bluntly his feelings for Nanaha, and apparently adds a few more sincere statements to it while hugging her (not sure exactly what, but they were enough to drive Nanaha to tears). Only problem is, Tsubasa witnessed the whole thing.

Well just watched episode 1 and I like it. I myself do like the old style as well as the new style anime drawings of most shows. Anything is better than the crap they call cartoons here anymore. And I thought it was totally hilarious fanservice and all! Loved how all the girls get him in trouble and don't take the blame for it. The girl that threw him into the car never did tell them that he was in the car because of her. The girl that went berserk with him in the car. Than their idea to dump him in the bath while the other two girls are bathing and again refuse to take the blame! LOL! I just love it! I'm grabbing episodes 2 and 3 now to watch.

Hyousuke is definitely in love with Nanaha, and confessed to her on episode 11. Tsubasa didn't give up on him though (eg she still keeps an eye on him in a mischievous way), but pretty much stayed friends with him by the end of the series. Also, at the end of the series, Nanaha and Hyousuke have gotten rather intimate, such that (given they sleep in the same room), Nanaha fondly wakes him up every morning (as in merrily rocking him awake).

I just finished this series and my thoughts on the love triangle are:

This could have been one of the better love triangles. Unfortunately, the last few minutes were a bit of a disappointment.
The good things first: This love triangle was very unpredictable. I honestly had no way of knowing which girl Hyosuke was going to pick. He obviously does feel something for both girls but in the end, his feelings for Nanaha was stronger. The problem now is the 6 month time lapse. We, the audience are asked to imagine and assume what exactly happened. Looking at the way Nanaha kept refering to Hyosuke as her brother and the non-romantic way which she woke him up, I'm guessing that the relationship didn't work because she didn't want her romantic feelings to interfere with her responsibilities as a captain. It would have been better had they shown this. It would also have been good if we were shown that Tsubasa was aware of this and we were shown Tsubasa telling Hyosuke that knowing this, she has decided not to give up and continue pursuing him. Had they shown these scenes, this could have been one of my favorite anime for the year. Because frankly without showing anything, it seemed like a cheap way to reset the relationships to zero and start all over again.

Tactical Roar...hmmm. It's one of those series wherein I have a serious bone to pick with most of it...

...but I still went and bought the DVDs because I like Mai Nakahara's rendition of Misaki Nanaha. ^_^;;;

- Not defending things unnecessarily, but for crying out loud, not every anime out there can have an Ep.1 that grabs you by the collar and drags your sanity down to complete and utter dedication like Haruhi does.

And before you say that no real-world military force would do such a thing (i.e. make scapegoats of people in order to hide their ineptitude), do remember that this has happened to every military force in the world at least once--The Dreyfuss Affair in France being the most classic example of it. And of course, we all know about Vietnam and the WMDs (or lack thereof) in Iraq. I'd even go a step further and mention Richard Marcinko's experiences as read in Rogue Warrior (the original, nonfiction one mentions how the Navy was more intent on putting him out of commission instead of taking his advice and beefing up anti-terrorist security)--but unfortunately nobody can agree on the facts in that book.

Also, regardless of what position that fat buffoon that was manhandling the XO held (was he a representative of the client, or the ship's owners?), had I been the captain I'd have told him to get off and walk home if he disagreed with my course of action - and at the very least, he'd have returned ashore escorted directly from the brig by the (wo)man-at-arms.... At sea, it's the captain's ship, period.

- Technically speaking he should have been tied up and keel-hauled at sea, but in retrospect he's the stereotypical REMF--i.e. the guy who makes the budgeting decisions with absolutely no idea of how work actually goes in the trenches.

from what I gather, he happens to be the company representative--i.e. he's technically the girls' boss. While in a military organization it'd be easy to just shoot the twit and toss the body overboard, unfortunately he holds the purse strings. It's clear that he's fairly misogynistic, has no concept of what combat operations are like, and arrogant to a fault. Like the Combined Navy, his aim in trying to get the Pascal Mage's crew sacked was more to cover up his own ineptitude (and downright interference) after that combat encounter.

They are using the DVD's and making rips out of them, wich is a huge different.

did you see the last scene when nanaha introduced herself to hyosuke when they were younger proving (what most of us already knew) that they werent true siblings.. i think that your right in most cases where as because shes a captain she can't exactly.. have a relationship.. but i defintly do think that hyosuke and nanaha end up together
