I think Ai Kakuma would make a good seiyuu impersonator. At times, she sounds like Ayana Takematsu, Harumi Sakurai, and sometimes even the serious tone of Ayane Sakura.

Plus it's not like the two incidents didn't give her a reason to lose her cool. Seems like someone who is just fairly private. Not interested in being the entertainment of others or going out of her way to deal with other people. She's got her own goals and that is of the highest priority to her above making friends or being social. Probably be easier if she was more social, but I don't think it's a question of arrogance.

to be honest, I don't really excited with this series since the plot is a little plain from the start
but the way they adapted this.... sigh.. I found myself another Mahouka I'll stick with this series I guess Claudia is a possible osananajimi with cunning personality.. while Julis is just another tsundere ojou-sama I'll enjoy this for now.. I like the battle scene too much I have to note that I'm also surprised when they show the sister from the start.. a genius attempt I guess.. it is the main plot after all |

premise seems way overused (average student with sealed OP powers enters highschool, endless boneheaded romance slice of life and fanservice). Honestly, you'd think they come up with a better storyline. In fact, why high school? a bunch of hormone fueled teens have no place in anything of significance. Better off if they are all 20+

So the hero is a kinda meek guy who is actually pretty strong, came to school searching for answers, and wants now trouble but gets in a fight on the first day.
The heroine is a high-strung Tsundere Princess who uses fire magic, and has her own mysterious goal. The setting is a city with magical schools where people fight all the time, and the main event is a tournament where the winner will have his wish granted. Also, the first thing hero does upon arriving is accidentally catch the heroine naked, and they get in a fight over it. Okay, yeah I can see that this isn't the most original anime ever, but I liked the first episode. The pacing was good and the episode gave us a good feel for the setting. The animation was good, especially during fights, which looked awesome. I love how the magic looks in this world. As for characters, Ayato is sympathetic enough but kind of just there at the moment, hopefully this'll change in the next episode. Julis on the other hand is awesome. She's badass, fiery and doesn't take shit from anyone, I love her already. Claudia is... a shamer pretending to be nice, which was so obvious from her behavior that she didn't even have to explain that. The reporter guy is just your standard male lead sidekick. I'm happy that this has 24 episodes, as I learned from experience that 12 is way too few for such a story, and results in cuts and rushing. With 24 episodes we'll hopefully get good amount of the story at a reasonable peace. |

I'll give it another episode but unless the next episode is a serious step up then I'll most likely drop it. Literally nothing in this episode grabbed my attention apart from the impressive animation and I don't expect that to last long. Otherwise it was about as bogstandard as you could get.

Well, so yet another series with the same premise. But this time I liked it, I don't know if the bunch of this cookie-cutter series that aired these last seasons finally paid off and my expectation lowered so much to actually enjoy it or not, but I actually liked it.
Since the plot is usually sealed more or less, my main problem usually is in the characters, and this time I like the main heroine, so it's fine, and the MC is fine so far. They are both strong and no air-headed girls on sight, that's a bonus. The episode was pretty straightforward (meant in its cliché meaning ) , but the addition of the sister plot may hide some interesting developments. I can't believe it will be 24 episodes of school battles after all All considered a solid first episode and the production values are noteworthy.

An LN adaptation... Checking if Diomedea is doing it.... Nope! A-1 Pictures is doing it? It's a keeper.
This first episode shows a lot of promise, and so far the execution seems pretty good. It's strange how different studios can do the same thing executed differently with results that show how vastly superior one production is compared to another. A lot of standard fare so far, but the execution seems interesting. I'll be watching this to the end.

I started to like her later as we got a little more of her character, but she's going to have to work back up to me actually liking her after that first impression. But that's just my opinion.

I only read the first LN volume, but doesn't Ayato seem a little too... I don't know... "passive" here compared to the LN? Or was he always like that and I just didn't realize? At least him going "uhm, uhm, that is, uhm..." felt a bit annoying...

Anyway, I've read the first volume before this, and it's a decent adaptation of the first part of the story, with some things changed. I can say that the graphics added some kind of twist to how the depiction of magic is shown, and I think that alone can carry the show for the meantime. The magic system is also quite flexible too. Can't wait to see more clever ways of combat aside from smacking each other with straightforward attacks.
As I said, the "national academies" concept here reminds me of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon sans the politics. I hope this also affects how the magic for the five remaining academics under Rikka are depicted. On Haruka: Haruka's battle being shown this early is also a big shock for me. So it's some kind of deal that forces her to defect to a different academy? Lieseltania: Does anyone know where Lieseltania lies on the world map? I thought it was the world's version of Liechtenstein.

Hate the premise, love the execution.
Wonderful overall look and movement, at least for this episode. Absolutely outstanding voice work by Kakuma Ai (Julis). This could be her big break. And also wonderful work (of course) by Touyama Nao as Claudia. Ayato seems strong but normal to me. His strength is greater than his manner, and the quietness could be depth. I'm liking how Tamaru Atsushi is handling his biggest-ever role. I normally have little use for shows like this, but that first ep grabbed me and made me keep watching. At least for one more ep.
