Apparently it was already a far stretch for Nya-tan to have gone through reincarnation so I'm not sure if it's that simple for Uri-tan; especially since she did something that risky. We also don't know when she would reincarnate either.

I almost believe she just appear fine and walk in the door and make fun of having a character die on episode 3 to increase tension in the story.

This is what I'm expecting to happen.

If she really did die, then this show clearly doesn't know what type of tone it wants to go with.

Show is getting really fun now. Jokes are funnier, battles are more intense, and the plot is picking up. Although I think the whole death plot is just another parody of the 3rd episode death that is getting so popular nowadays.

It's not unusual for shows to be light hearted in the beginning before transitioning into serious drama, Steins;Gate being one popular example.

though I doubt this is one of them. It will certainly give Nya-tan more motivations however.

Etotama is a show I was watching when I was in the mood for pure comedy and/or wanted to see how far anime has come with respect to CGI (I'll admit that it has been pretty impressive).

However, my estimation of the show went up considerably with the 2nd half of Episode 3.

Either that's "for real", or Esclair is right. Either way, though, it's a truly bold move by the creators of this show.


If it's "for real", then it's the most stunning turn from lighthearted comedy to brutal drama that I've ever seen in anime. The "it gets much more serious in the 3rd episode" is hardly new in anime, but I don't think I've ever seen a show that I would consider 'pure comedy' go for it. Etotama is taking this trope to whole new heights if it is, in fact, "for real". Gutsy, at the very least.

But even if Esclair is correct, it's still impressive. In fact, in some ways, it might be even more impressive if Esclair is correct. In pro wrestling, there's a term called "a work". It's used to refer to making something acted/scripted look real. The more shocking that something is, and the more convincingly "real" it's made to look, the more impressive it is. Well, the 2nd half of this episode was played almost entirely straight, and the "death scene" itself was played entirely straight, from start of the "killing motion" to the end of the episode. They even had seemingly serious flashback scenes and music montage and special credits rolling, to all add "Oomph!" to what happened. There was also, thankfully, no clear-cut winking at the audience (none that I noticed, anyway). If this is "a work", it's one that would make Vince McMahon himself blush.


I'm looking forward to Episode 4 to see if it's "for real" or "a work", but either way, well-done Etotama makers.

Harunyan vs. Precia Testarat was also a very well-done fight scene in general.
