...Did the title screen just say "miracle magical?" Man, that's close enough to give me nostalgic shivers. ...In a good way.

Wellp, this first episode is very... Precure. But there were also some variances that make it clearly its own thing. I like it so far.

Riko is so much more adorable than she seemed like in the PVs, and Mirai was surprisingly sharp. She noticed immediately that the bad guy (I think his name is Batty...) is dangerous. I mean, it was pretty obvious for the viewer, but he was walking on the street and no one seemed to mind him at all, so I guess it wasn't so obvious for the characters.

Other than the unimpressive first fight, it was a good start. Although, since the bad guy took the monster with him I assume we'll get a proper fight next week.

As far as I know we have not heard yet.

Some of the earliest series only focused on a pair of PreCure only (Futari wa), while others started out with two (Suite and HeartCatch, for example), or three (Fresh and Princess, for example) and would add more as time went on. Or else they would start with five (Yes 5 and Smile, for example) and keep to that number all the way through.

I have heard some speculation that it is possible for this series tobe a throwback to Futari wa in terms of total PreCure throughout the series, but it is only just speculation at the moment (as far as I know).

We'll see what we'll see. The series has just begun, so even for toys and marketing releases it's a bit early-days yet to learn of new Precure, if they aren't coming within the next few episodes.

Anyway, mild speculation time. Since there's little information to go on as of yet, I'm picking minute details out of the OP.

Since their powers appear to be based on the gemstone they use, and we know the outermost one is diamond... Going from outside-in in both cases, Diamond-Ruby-Sapphire-Topaz?

That's a pretty good start. I'm not sure if we'll get a larger group as time goes on, but I wouldn't mind going the duo route for this show. Does let you flesh out the leads a bit more. Riko and Mirai are both pretty likable characters. Sure Mirai is pretty darn excitable, but we are talking about magic. All that stuff is something one should be pretty excited about . Plus she does have good instincts. Knowing when to run is helpful.

Riko seems like the type that will be more my favorite in the cast. Does clearly have some weak points to her magic usage and can see that being balanced out by Mirai being more inherently talented. Has a good heart even if she makes some mistakes. Made sure to grab Mirai for their escape and did take a risk to save our teddy bear mascot because she knew how precious it was to Mirai.

I do like how the enemies may be more based on objects than dragging something out of people and using them as hostages.

I suppose it has been a while since we've had that, hasn't it? Last time was Smile Precure, I think.

Same for me. She's really adorable. She clearly wanted to try to project the image of an aloof mage who is professional, cold, and perhaps a bit "above it all", but her lack of skill, Mirai's enthusiasm, and the fact that Riko really is too nice a person to properly affect that persona, all just combine to make her really really cute instead.

That was a good aversion of the standard trope. One doesn't normally expect her character-type to be particularly savvy about things like that.

Yeah, definitely wanted to give off that calm and professional image, but that just didn't happen . Of course nothing wrong with wanting to live up to an ideal or look professional. But is much more the type that doesn't have things come so easily to her or work out perfectly. Her heart is clearly in the right place. Didn't necessarily have to point out to Mirai that she dropped Mofurun or take that risk to avoid Mofurun plummeting during their escape.

Curious about her motivations for running around looking for this jewel. Not the kind of thing a student would normally be flying around looking for.

Yeah, I was surprised by that. Didn't just naively trust this person, but instead got a bad feeling from him and decided running was the right thing to do. Nice to avoid the trope that way.

I remember reading about it somewhere a few years ago...essentially everyone stands back to back in a circle drawn on the ground and pushes against everyone else with their back while singing a song. The winner is the last one in the circle, I think?

Something like that....

Oh ho?

Interesting. So according to that article the point of the game was the act of pushing and singing, not necessarily a "last one inside wins" kinda thing.

The point was a method to enjoy oneself while getting warm in winter time. XD

Have yet to watch the first episode myself, but I saw what you wrote, and I do agree with you that when a favorite voice actress has a part in a Precure series, it helps to keep your interest. I got back into the Precure franchise when I heard that Nana Mizuki and Aya Hisakawa were both voicing Precure in Heartcatch Precure.
