I was deeply disappointed to not find my beloved ED song at the end of this episode. But reflecting on it, I realize that this episode is not worthy of the ED. Oh, it is technically excellent as always, but it missed some kind of Kannagi essence. It was, as we say here in Norway, "cooking soup on an (iron) nail". You add all the right stuff but the starting point is just not right. It was kind of like a really well made dojinshi, I guess.

Having watched this ep for a second time, with the sub, I am revising my opinion upward. Enjoyable from beginning to end, with some outstanding animation and voice-acting, good visual and verbal jokes, and lovely money-saving stills and shots of the closet door (which I thought worked great, following Yamakan's storyboard, no doubt).
Akiba talks about liking the episode of Lolikko Cutie because it was made by a favorite animation director, whose connections bring in great key animators (sure, that's why he liked it, lol). The actual animation director of this episode, I believe including the Lolikko Cutie part, was Matsuo Yuusuke 松尾祐輔, a former KyoAni animator who did key animation on numerous episodes of FMP:TSR, SHnY, Kanon, and Lucky Star, then left and has done key animation on Daughter of Twenty-Faces, Macross Frontier, and ep1 of this show (up to the end of Jin's carving scene). It's not clear whether he is now an employee of Yamakan's company, Ordet, but Yamakan gave him his first actual animation direction job on episode 2 of Kemeko Deluxe, which was written, storyboarded, and directed by Yamakan. This ep of Kannagi is his second.

I thought the show was loosing some of its flare in the last couple of episodes. This episode, however, made everything ok. I lol'ed quite a bit. He was still mad as he urged everyone to watch the next episode.
It was a cleverly written episode. Makes me even more happy by knowing that this was an anime-original. BTW... more lol at the 2-channers' anguish over the probability of Nagi's lost virginity. Geeks for the win. That said, I also wonder who she really likes, or if there was any truth to it when she said in episode 3 that she has someone she likes. She is a chronic-liar after all.

I found that hilarious. I really did. There was just so much in this episode that was funny, starting from the very premise of Nagi childishly hiding herself in the closet. The way they hid the reason for her doing it and then revealing towards the end of the episode that it was all because of a rather silly reason just made it all the more hilarious. Akiba's "It's a Sony", Zange's attempted seduction (I, just like Tsugumi, had no idea just how much of it was real and how much was an act), Tsugumi blurting out that she thought Zange should go home and then regretting it and the homoerotic scene between Jin and Akiba when he first arrived. And that's not even counting the hilarious magical girl parody during the ED sequence. Seriously funny episode.

I loved this episode, I was laughing from start to finish. I think the part that got me the most was Jin finally pouring his heart out and apologizing to the door, only to have Nagi walk into the room at the end, lmao. I hope someone buys the writers a beer or something, they deserve it.

I can understand the Sony products shown consedering A-1 Pictures is part of Sony guess they were made to do that but decided to do it in a funny way which I have no problem, though I'm surprise the PS3 wasn't part of it heh they could have said something like "But we don't have a Blu Ray" "no worries, we have a PS3 it even plays games!".
Funny how this episode had the very good animation compared to the last several episodes eventhough this was a filler episode. |

A pretty funny episode overall. Was a bit worried at the start when nothing was moving for a while . Still some great moments throughout this. Like Jin realizing what was stuck in that closet with Nagi. Suddenly the importance of getting her out of there was going up. The Zange part was great with you not seeing much but getting enough reactions to enjoy it. Poor Tsugumi was freaking out for a while there. It might have worked to get Nagi out.
"It's a Sony!" So much fun with bringing in two copies that can't be used. Though honestly the guy only having a VHS is just asking for trouble as it is. Loved the scene when Akiba showed up and they had that 'moment'. Overall a pretty fun episode.

"It's a Sony!"
i was confused what the commotion is all about i didn't know which chapter they picked this one up until i realized it is an original half way through. I pretty much lol'd at Akiba saying "It's a Sony" didn't think i'd hear that again then when jin explained why Nagi is mad, lastly was when Jin is apologizing w/o knowing Nagi isn't there. I had a feeling she wasn't there anymore, took a toilet or someting but it turns out she went to get some snacks, oh Nagi you i know it's weird but, i think Jin and Akiba running to each other was great. Daitetsu-kun's rival has appeared! it's a good episode overall with a decent Tsugumi screentime too w/c is the reason why i give it a 9.5 rounded up to 10. So i'm guessing this will be a 13x2 episode.. i guess |
