Someone also brought up the interesting fact that, in the first season, one thing they emphasized was that all the boys have female names. It sort of brought them together as a group, even when they recruited Rei. Yet, Sousuke is the obvious man out, since his name is obviously pretty masculine. I wonder how that will play into the story?

OMG! That ED!!! It was awesome! I guess it's a bit of a glimpse into their future careers (with Haru being a marman and all...) ? It actually fits them quite well - although I would think Haru would be frying up mackerels, not do a stir fry.
But I am kind of disappointed that Rei doesn't get more screen time in season 2...after last season, he totally deserves a promotion! But, dang, Makoto as a hot HOT! fireman! *throws her cat up a tree just to call fireman Makoto over*

Hmm... Well, I gotta hand it to KyoAni. The animation is really lovely.
Unfortunately I kinda feel the same about the first ep of season two as I did about the first three or four eps of season one - it is not a bad series per se, and I could see the characters and story being interesting, but it does not really "click" for me, for whatever reasons. Still, will give it a few more eps... maybe something will work itself out?

Fun episode once again, with some gorgeous visuals as usual.
Sousuke is a pretty cool dude. I'm relieved. I was afraid he was going to be as bad as Rin in the first season. The first he can't stand Haru is apparently because he's jealous of his friendship with Rin. This is going to make fangirls go crazy. I liked the captain's little brother too. Finally an heterosexual guy in this show! He's the first who commented on Gou's cuteness. It'd be nice if they focused a bit on that. Next episode, Rei leaves the team?! Yeah, obviously not.

That was a very good 2nd episode. Sousuke was actually a lot nicer then I thought he was gonna be. Although he is still agnostic towards Haru due to his relationship with Rin. I'm hoping this part is not the main plot core of the entire series and they instead focus on the future and what is everyone going to do specifically Haru. If they focus with that instead of another agnostic (although different but still) relationship that changes and rather the future, that would be more interesting. I'm also hoping for more future development with the other characters too. This is already in my eyes a lot better then the first season so if they continue with what they got we could get something really good.

Another excellent episode. We get to see more of our favorite swimmers as they do what is most important to them: swimming.
I loved Makoto's siblings, they are so cute. And the ex-captain's brother is kind of adorable, and can really swim. I also think he's an excellent match for our Gou. Sure his brother was good, but since these two are pretty much the same age, it's a better match. As for our new character Sousuke, he's interesting, but I can see why the author didn't give him the honor of having a feminine name like our main 5. His role seems more side character than main character to me. He's an old friend of Rin's that want's to protect Rin, yet I don't think he can understand the current Rin either. If so, he would have understood why they did what they did at the last regionals and that they weren't "dragging" Rin into anything. However, even before that thing with Rin, it feels like he and Haru have some kind of beef. The way they always look at each other in some form of distaste. I don't know what it is, but it's weird. Also, we go with the theme of future plans and that while Rin knows what he's going to do and Sousuke has been scouted, Makoto and Haru still have no idea what they want to do after they graduate. Haru's not even thinking about it, which I think will be a problem later. I think he would be good in competing in swimming professionally, however, he's going to need a little more competitive spirit if so. And perhaps, looking at this last race, Sousuke might just help with that. We'll have to see how this plays out. I have a feeling that Sousuke's idea of trying to protect Rin is going to come into play later. I know Rin dreams of doing swimming professionally, but it's almost seems like he's waiting for Haru join him as well. I know Makoto is waiting for Haru to make up his mind as well. It's kind of all hinging on our merman MC.

Japanese Twitter has confirmed some locations in the ED sequence are based on Sydney, including the Rocks and George Street in downtown Sydney.

According to the split-second footage in the OP, I'm guessing all of our main 5 are going to go through some hardship this season. We'll have to see how much they grow and are able to overcome their obstacles and their pain.

Haru's milkshake brings all the boys to the pool.
and lol, the guy sure gets backed against walls often. It's kinda cute though if they weren't such intense seeming scenes. The show keeps it's comedy in those scenes because the dialogue is such fuel it's hard to resist. rofl at Momotarou. I knew as soon as he and Gou got into the same room what would happen. Miho was on fire this episode, literally haha. Never mention the swimsuits :P Rin is quite likable this season and I'm enjoying his voice actor. Also we got a little bit of swimming knowledge. Something about raising your body above the water to decrease resistance. I really don't like the shots of them taking these giant breaths underwater though. |
