The protag does look like Yukihira Souma's cooler, older cousin.

seriously, this series is like a modern take on classic Tokusatsu "super powered cops" TV shows in the likes of Toei's Space Sheriff & Metal Heroes, Toho's Cyber Cops, & the Armored Police Metal Jack anime.
