In my oppinion, it was not given an "official" name until Zechs ordered it to be completed, it only had its nickname before that.

I'm fairly certain that Tallgeese got it's name From the spruce goose witch was a very expensive plane that nearly sank the builders company by the time it was complete therefore the Tallgeese is a tall (as stated in the quoted post meaning expensive) goose.

Well, Episode 15 really made this obvious, but Wing Gundam Fenice.

Fellini and Fenice started out as a kid and a Wing Gundam painted green. ANd then every time he got his ass kicked after battling, he worked on remodeling and upgrading Fenice, until at the end it was no longer the same Wing Gundam, but something new.

That is Fenice. The Phoenix. It wasn't built to be displayed, but to show the world that it's the strongest.

I believe the name is more about its resiliency. It's probably the oldest gunpla still being used.

- It's operating number is MSN. Mobile Suit Nagano => Mamoru Nagano designed the Hyaku Shiki for Zeta Gundam, and we all know how crazy Nagano is about his 100-1000-year old giant robots (Five Star Stories). Yes, the "100-years" reference is both official and in in-joke. Especially seeing how many times the Hyaku-shiki gets thrashed in Z and ZZ.

I think there are probably older gunpla around, but yeah, in terms of the current 7th GBWC, Fenice is the oldest in the Best-16.

IIRC, the Rick Dias was named after Bartholomew Dias, a Portuguese explorer, and as a nod to how the Rick Dias' design is a sucessor to the Rick Dom. Sort of how the F-20 Tigershark is a sucessor to the F-5 Tiger, or how Grumman, later Northrop-Grumman, named all its fighters after cats - Hellcat, Wildcat, Tomcat.

Perhaps it's been addressed, but Z-gok is just a random name thrown by studio, Jigoku = hell

Same as Zaku, which is based on it's walking sound and Zako = Small fish (cannon fodder)

Oddly enough, SEED Destiny called them 'Zack', which probably rooted from 'Zacharia', fitting the religious theme of SEED overall (The Druggies Gundam, every single Nuclear MS etc)

I always thought that SEED refered to the ability all the main characters got. After all, it is an exploding seed.

However, I agree that Gundam SEED remains the only series where the gundam title is not an actual gundam.

And on Animesuki, there is no such thing as necromancy, only Faith in Her Loliness, Euclewood.
