Haha, this episode was great.
Haha I wonder what the guards were thinking when they heard Eruruu ask Karura that question. Then they hear the reaction, lol those guards were fantasizing a lot I bet. This was a good character introduction episode. Next episode looks sad. More battle are to come, and it looks like Eruruu's hometown won't be safe. |

Nice episode, but it has more fan-service than the typical Utawarerumono episode. I'd say, Hakuoro's army strength just went up from only being 1/10th as strong as Shikeripetim to 1/5th as strong just with the recent recruit.
And if Na Tunk is ever willing to invade, then that is just one more area of land Hakuoro is going control to increase his army strength. Aruruu seems to be more willing to meet new people now. Now, Hakuoro also has arial and magical support with the 2 princesses, Kamyu and Urotori. All he needs left is naval power and an invincible tank/horse to complete his omnipotence. Wait... Mukuru... Ok, just naval power then... As for Karura helping out Hakuoro, I think that she likes the current country she is in, likes the people, and it probably is very different from what she is used to. Maybe it feels like home to her, so she wants to stay. And to keep this current status, she better help protect and preserve it. As far as her strength goes, it's unquestionable. My concern now lies in her ability to lead. Is she a strategist or more of lead soldier, just bashing things as she is commanded to? Also, with the way she asked Eruruu about Hakuoro, I have a feeling that Karura will somehow help Eruruu get closer to Hakuoro.

Holy crap, the female characters that have been introduced in the last three episodes have been stacked!
What I didn't like about this episode: the mood swing was far too rapid. Here we start with a dead serious sequence with an extremely dark atmosphere and some rather unsettling events, yet, after this initial scene, the mood in the rest of the series remained very light. I find it odd that Oboro was the only voice of distrust for Karura... someone who can kill off several trained soldiers with minimal effort wouldn't be the type of person I'd easily turn my back to, let alone have them watch it. More than likely she will turn out to be a reliable ally, but the point is I didn't find Eruru's and Hakuoro's willingness to trust, then recruit her believable, given that the reasons why they decided to. As for the rest of the episode, as I complained about above, I didn't like how lighthearted it got, given the ultra-serious opening scene. Other than that, no major complaints. It was a fairly standard character-introduction episode, but, to be honest, I didn't find anything too interesting about Karura. She seemed like yet another ultra-powerful hero to aid the battles, which is kinda a pity, because all the other protagonists have been either enigmatic or charasmatic enough to be interesting. Aruru cries in the next episode preview. That one looks like it's going to be a killer, so I'm looking forward to it.

On a more serious note, she was a slave, those soldiers were holding her prisoner, Eruruu has been talking to her for a while, and she did not sense any danger in Karura. Karura could have easily escaped from the cell if she wanted to. With Eruruu's kind nature, of course Hakuoro is going to listen to her. He has trusted and valued her decisions so far. Hey, if you were a slave, they left you to die, while cowardly saving their own skin, how would you feel? Oboro tends to jump to conclusions, without digging deep into the facts (ex: first time meeting Hakuoro). He lacks perception, and therefore, cannot be replied upon as a good judge of character. Furthermore, they needed strength to bolster their army, and she seemed to fit the bill. As far as trusting her, if Eruruu, Hakuoro's most valued person in the whole world, says she believes Karura, it would be best to listen and trust her decision. She hasn't made a wrong decision yet, and if he refuses to trust her decision, how do you think Eruruu will feel? Further dispair into darkness? I am sure that Hakuoro is the type of person who will trust you outwardly, but will always watch his back.

Karura is an interesting character, although some things strike me as odd.
It seems she could have escaped at any time, but didn't do so until she was in danger of drowning. With her combat skills and superhuman strength, I wonder how she could have been captured to begin with, let alone stay imprisoned for that long. Her being more comfortable within the cell rather than a normal room implies she's used to that environment, strange as it may be, so has probably spent a considerable amount of time within prison walls. One possibility how they kept her prisoner that long might be that they somehow managed to drug her, and keep her sedated from that point on, but the ship crisis prevented them from readministering the necessary drugs. It was apparent though that the sailors knew how dangerous she was. The only other reason I can think of for not escaping when she could have, is that she has no place to go and didn't feel the need to. It's a good thing she didn't react with lethal force towards the guards of the cell, or she would have killed off all chance of acceptance. I suppose she could see by their outfit that they were not related to Na Tunk. Still, eventhough Hakuoro's comment surprised her, and she was treated kindly by Eruru, I would have expected her to be more hostile and distrustful, instead of being all friendly so soon. After all, she's spent time in a harsh environment, and is accustomed to battle situations. So after that display of skills in the duel, eventhough the swords couldn't handle her inhuman strength which is shown when she easily lifts that huge sword, she's accepted as part of the army. It seems it might just be temporary though, considering the episode title is Mercenary, and she's just paying off her debt. Unless the episode title is referring to her previous activities. Ofcourse there's the possibility she could obtain an official position in the future. Another thing that puzzles me is the fact that she seems to know Urutorii. I just can't quite make sense of it all, hopefully they'll delve a little into all this at some point. Perhaps Urutorii is somehow the reason that Karura is more friendly than you would expect from someone like her. And finally something completely different... Aruru = Awwwwwww kawaii (when she got the necklace, blushing and wagging her tail). |

I don't understand how they managed to capture that monster.. eeeh Karura in the first place. Her strength is insane. Is she Guts in a female body or something?
Well, not much of a reason to suspect someone who killed his captors. She was a slave. I wouldn't hold grudges against that. Mine is a free country! Eh... Hakuoro's, that is Poor Eruru... Don't worry, it's not the size of the boobs that matters (although it does help in many occassions ) but the size of what's underneath... (Hmm.. no wonder lolis have stormed the anime world...). Oh well, she could at least admit her feelings for once No one will ever know anyway. The episode was nice, although I found Karura a bit over the top with the look-at-my-big-sword-I-can-kick-your-asses-anytime thingie. That part of a character somewhat annoys me. I mean... talk about overused, boring cliche... Oh well, the episode was still fun And just so you know. I changed my voting system I now look at the rating names and pick the one I feel best describes it So yeah, it was a good episode But I liked ep 8 much better

No wonder she slaughtered just every one of that soldiers. Imprisoned, drugged, completely chained, turned a slave and left to die in a sinking ship, along all the other slaves she could not to save because was too late for them. |

By the way, i forgot to say but i added yesterday the Game summary for Episode 10 in the Game Chat session. It's interesting, because there's a couple of new character not show in the TV series yet.

One interesting thing about Karura is her manner of speaking. Her Japanese is rather polite. Not posh... but certainly not rough in any way. Her voice matches up very nicely - rather sexy in fact.
For a self-proclaimed fighter, I wonder what her background is. With regards to her being accepted rather quickly, Benawi certainly didn't rush to accept her or otherwise. For Hakuoro, he's always been good at judging characters - remember when he met Benawi in ep 5 and spotted that it hadn't been Benawi behind the attack on the village. Hakuoro can certainly read between the lines even in the middle of a crisis situation. Karura was obviously dangerous, but simply walking around as she was, effectively asking to be judged, is far from hostile. Most people would have simply escaped. Also, bear in mind that Hakuoro and co rebelled against an entire country - what Karura did was similar but on a much much smaller scale. I wonder if Hakuoro deliberately decided to let Eruruu talk to Karura for a bit to get Eruruu's opinion. I wouldn't want to play a game like chess or Go against Hakuoro |

Karura might be fast and strong, but she is still but one person. Even she can't fight off an army on her tail by herself. Notice how after killing those guys who escaped the sunken ship she collapsed? Granted she's probably not in top shape that time (chain up and probably haven't had a good meal for a while), but yeah, it won't be impossible to capture her, it just takes alot of cannon fodders.

One thing that strikes me odd about this episode was how there were no scars on Karura's back. She obiviously knows how to fight and probably been through some tough battles, but I'm amazed how she doesn't have a scratch on her.
