Sour and other fluff effect don't carry over to equipments but heavy does. I think it reduce speed. The question is why have negative effects? Nobody will add it in unless there is a positive effect for it.

While we're on the topic, has anyone played MK2? I started it over the weekend, but the characters put me off so severely that I put it away again. I'm sure they get better but I wasn't in the mood for any sass at the time.

Heavy increases Defense greatly if I am correct. In the beginning it's impossible to get a +DEF(L) (Or rather, VERY hard and rare), so those who need to raise up the defense rather largely would consider this as an option. And it seems to increase defense better than DEF+(L), but I haven't checked this yet. <= Lazy to have any negative stat added for ether effects. NOTE: This might be wrong as I have not played the game anymore. But I was quite sure about an E-Effect with reducing speed but increasing DEF one :/

Attack Spec increases both Physical and Magic Attack, so it's understandable if the increase is more mediocre than ATT+(M). Same goes for Defense Spec. And if I am correct, both doesn't stack up with either ATT+, DEF+, MAG+ and RES+.

Well, what you said is true. Just have patience until the middle part The best part of MK2 for me would be the interwined hero and heroine stories though

In Mana Khemia, I prioritizes on getting speed+ stats. I still remember the reason i had a very long battle against amalgam in Atelier Iris for not having enough speed. Amalgam was like moving three turns consecutively.
