I don't know... I haven't seen any official announcement regarding the 3rd season. Besides, KyoAni already had plans for their next project, which is "Nichijou".

The new announcement is the OVA confirmation (aka episode 27). See my previous post in this thread.

I have heard about the OVA *and can't wait for that...* But 'the one above just made my curiousity began to kill me...

Yet, there's still no official info about 3rd season and of course, a big possibility that the one above only a damn troll, perhaps?

I think it is a troll.. or maybe a misinformation. and Kakifly hasn't even made a new K-ON! manga yet (and we don't know whether there'll be one or not).

He seemed not to want K-on in college, so he will not make new K-ON! manga...
K-on will not be like lucky star. He said K-on had meanigs only in highschool life.
Boys & Girls are limited by many things,money,freetime,force to decide their future in highschool days.
But,There are many possibilities in highschool days for tommorow,for future.
They get the best friends through out their lives !!

Maybe K-on have finished when Yui & her best friends graduated...
BUT, I WANT MORE K-ON!! So please SEASON3 come out with AZUSA , UI & JUN !!!

Unless TBS says it specifically on their site, or if KyopAni makes another announcement once the movie is out (either in the movie or wherever), I call BS on the season 3 announcement.

And besides, I'm still not convinced it would work out so well. Kakifly would have to make the story drastically different, else you'd end up with more of the same and I'm sure that there's a limit as to how far you can milk a franchise before it gets stale.

KyoAni will probably wrap up the franchise with the movie and Kakifly will most likely focus on other stuff to write and draw about (assuming he doesn't become a one-hit wonder).

Yeah, that's what I thought too. As much as I want a story about their college life, I think it would be awkward.

A sequel about Azusa's group would be great, but I fear that if the seniors enter as cameos, they would steal the spotlight considering the fans' love to them. ^^;

A spinoff about Sawako's high school days would be interesting too

Wait! Is your point really related to budget? Isn't it time or style? Simply put, production time is consistency, and budget is framerate. Even poor animation is costlier than a high-quality still shot.
