In the OP song there is a brief scene were they are using rifles, so they at least have those.
I imagine the limited resources within the wall is a good reason for the less advanced tech, after a certain point it just becomes impossible to create larger scale weapons.

The fact that The Great Wall was built for a long period (dynasties after another, probably a hundred years in total).. I'm beginning to think that the author was so obsessed with big walls, giants and blades that he fails to realized how hard is to make a huge, wide walls while under constant attack. its pretty close to impossible. "try building a concrete wall while another is jack hammering it at the same time..." Last edited by NoemiChan; 2013-04-11 at 07:28. |

At 12.33 in the first ep. , there is the picture of how entire human society look like
...and from this screencapture, look like the part that the giants broke in is only the small semicircle part. There are many layers of wall left.

what that humongous titan do is breaking the wall using his kick and let the smaller size titan to 'advance' inside, we didn't see him enter the wall so far so that might be his only purpose/objective

I would guess the Colossal Titan effectively serves as a Siege Engine for the normal Titans, a battering ram to break down the gate and allow them access. It didn't seem to have any interest in even trying to enter the city. It also only broke the gate, it didn't attempt to break anything else or climb the wall.

They just meant the visual sequence, not the song. A lot of anime opening sequences nowadays tend to have spoiler-y imagery. Attack on Titan avoided that, which a lot of us appreciate.

Guys, I have to be honest.
This show has become the third winner that I've picked up for the current season. The medieval settings are both lush with vivid colors, and the designs of the towns look artistically folkloric. The atmosphere is an indicator to the change in both mood and tone onscreen. When the Titans began their attack the atmosphere turned to a pale hue of gray making the sunlight effect somber and bleak. But, what it really made me to fall interested into this show were: 1) its characters and 2) the visceral brutality of the Titans. To me this is a powerhouse, dark fantasy teeming with tropes of tragedy, doom, and drama struggle. I feel this is definitely not a mainstream fantasy. You know a medieval world void of concepts such as use of magic and alchemy, at least from the looks of the first episode. And, an anti-shounen story, since the plot is pretty much murky and full with tragic events laid everywhere. Yet, possess the important shounen element: the quintessential boy with a firey temper and an iron will to crush all obstacles to reach his goal. Definitely, to me Eren's bashfulness and headstrong temper are handled quite spontaneously in his personality; living in a caged world due to fear of the menace of man-eating Titans would be enough reason for a young boy to grow discontent, frustrated, and resentful. Spoiler:
I read from a few friends of mine out there that they sort of hate this types of anime with medieval settings that feature kids or teens as the protagonists instead of adults. I feel this is not the case with Shingeki no Kyojin, because this is only the first episode, and things will start to roll from the second episode onwards. The anime has sparked enough curiosity to start reading the manga, but I will withheld from doing so until the TV show ends. I don't know you, but I feel that Shingeki no Kyojin is a worthwhile to watch successor to Claymore, since both stories are set in medieval settings teemed with (not traditional) dark fantasy featuring monsters that threaten mankind, but both their plots and characters are different. |
