I had to check just because that was too funny if I missed it. 11:30-ish from Ep2? Was gonna give the series the benefit of the double at the time, but given everything after that episode hard to argue against it. Honestly the "riding" butt joke doesn't even phase me in this show, what I don't get is how exactly this fighting works? It seems like the "pilot" is supposedly the one doing the work but also that he's not really? Especially for 002.

Black Cat was fine at the time. Even a bit above average, considering that was the era of My-HiME and whatnot.

Based on the preview, this was fairly close to what I expected overall.

In other words, this episode is more about setup for ep6 (and the future). It sure ramps up the tension though. It looks like ep6 will be the first large scale combat and there's plenty of death flags lurking.

Starting with Hiro - who is suffering a lot though hiding it well from everyone except Goro (who gets a lot of focus this week). Hiro has a large growth on his chest and according to Nana and Hachi he has a huge "yellow blood cell" count, to the extent it's a surprise that he's alive and this is also apparently having the opposite reaction of other parasites (a drop in yellow blood cell count, perhaps?). Hiro is well aware of what he's doing through and is determined to push through anyway, regardless of the cost.

Next up with the death flags are the pilots from Plantation 26, who basically look like mob characters. Some of them are carrying injuries. They also don't like the idea of fighting with 02 because of what she did two years ago. 02 shrugs off their concerns - the weak will die as far as she is concerned.

Ichigo and Goro both seem to be on the edge. Goro is stressed out from seeing Hiro self-destructing before his eyes. Ichigo obviously still has feelings for Hiro but tries to play it off as her concerns as the team leader. She confronts 02 at night but it doesn't go well.

So we're almost certainly going to see some pilots die next week. But will it be limited to the new pilots or will some of the existing team die? Also, what is going on with Hiro? Obviously he's going to survive piloting a 3rd time with 02, but what will the cost be? Will he start to lose his humanity?

I really hope Ichigo and Goro gets along better. Feels like they are further apart every episode ever since Zero 2 came into the picture. Speaking of which, I found this scene rather interesting:



Really hope we get a background story episode about Zero 2 in the future. Seems like pacing slowed down a little but I do expect business to pick up more soon.

Welp, Hiro biologically not being like the others confirmed. Instead of spurting red blood, he's turning blue. On top of the orphanage thing, I guess my radar is still working. With the OP as well hinting that demon-child 02 met up with someone, pretty much guarantees that it was Hiro who was that someone. Or at the very least, the originals that 02/Hiro were cloned from are confirmed to have met as kids. XD

Poor Ichigo and Goro though. I love Ichigo's character because she's just pretending to be strong, but I like Goro's bro moments as well. Normally the situation is gender reversed, with the female childhood friend being the one all naggy while the male childhood friend lets the MC do what he pleases the most, but it's nice to see a change.

Basically Hiro is a completely different parasyte that instead of being eated, he's absorbing something that's changing his body little by little. It doesn't seems like he's getting weaker or something like that but the whole theory of him turning into something that's not human seems possible right now.

Ichigo and Goro are in a very weird position thanks to how ichigo can't deal with her jealousy and the presence of Zero Two around Hiro all the time. That confrontation between her and 02 was something needed but she was the one who received the worst part.

Now another huge battle is coming and I feel like someone will die really soon.

The duality of Zero Two never disappoints.

Really liked this episode. The dynamics of 02, Hiro, Ichigo, and Goro are my favorite to learn about right now. 02 is feeling more and more like a monster as the episodes went on. I can see why Squad 26 was so shook when 02 came into the debriefing room. And when her headband came off...wow. I really liked that last scene with Hiro and 02; I didn't really know what to expect from their current relationship, but I didn't think that she would priortize Hiro's willingness to ride her over his health; she fuckin called that blue infection beautiful. When Hiro showed his resolve about continuing to pilot Strelizia and the whole 02 laughing and dancing with the CLASSIC pan to the sky shot...I enjoyed that scene.

Hiro's current condition makes me wonder about Mitsuru now. What affect did riding Streliza have on him? He's taking pills now, so maybe that's some indication. But clearly, it's not like what Hiro's going through now.

She's beyond the level of "koakuma" (devilish) at least. Some sort of "femme fetale" perhaps... but there's much we don't know about her.

Certainly it feels like she doesn't empathise with others in general. Would she even cry if Hiro died? Perhaps not but she would probably feel a sense of loss... but I suspect she wouldn't show it. She's very much alone and I'm guessing she's seen lots of people die so she doesn't even bother much anymore. While calling Hiro with a pet name like "darling" does sound close, in her own way she might be dehumanising him - ie doesn't even need to remember his name. Yet, she clearly does feel things from Hiro and is happy that he accepts her.

I suspect that when Hiro is able to survive longer term she'll start to change. ie the one who's most affected by Hiro surviving three times will probably be her rather than Hiro.

Absolutely beautiful this episode, the symbolism of the butterfly and spider show exactly how much Hiro is in 02’s grasp yet Hiro is all fine with it as long as he get to pilot. Both Hiro and 02 are crazy, crazy and crazy make good pairing. Hiro really exceeded my expectations, as other protagonists in similar situation will be melodramatic on how they want to retain their humanity/life. This is the difference between a soldier (even though Hiro is still a child) and a high school student.

Then there’s 02, every scenes with her in it especially with Hiro is truly the highlight. I fucking love her.

all in all, a very good ep. setting up for the third ride, revealing more questions about 02, development for a lot of the characters. the spider/moth analogy really is a perfect representation of Hiro and 02's relationship. i like that Goro is finally developing feelings as well. He's always been the third wheel with Ichigo and Hiro, and now that it's just him and Ichigo, i think he'll move forward with her as well. likely in the shape of a power up when they need it.

i'm now 100% sure the aspect ratio change is used when there's only one course of action/the main subject of the scene is a spectator to what's happening to them. Ichigo has realized it, and got her's in the form of the dripping/leaky faucet that was prevalent when Hiro was washing his face. Then Hiro saw no other answer than to keep riding with 02 at the end of the ep.

i love this show. so many layers to read into.

You know, Kana Ichinose is doing a really good job voicing Ichigo considering this is her first notable role. She is a promising seiyuu .

Did someone brought up Flay Allster? Then I guess I'm gonna make a Gundam comparison too. Let's see....oh yeah:

I hope Mitsuru doesn't stay an insecure dick throughout the whole anime. The writer better take some notes from Yzak Joule of Gundam SEED who is basically a similar character to Mitsuru early in the series who then develops and becomes a better and (arguably) likable person. And speaking of Gundam character-comparison, they really need to develop that Futoshi dude. Right now, he is pretty much the stereotype of stereotypes. I mean, look at him: he's the fat one, the soft one, the cowardly one and the gluttonous one who lives for food basically. He is a far cry from another chubby character who is smart, sensible, brave and resourceful named Biscuit from Gundam IBO who breaks the mold of "dumb and cowardly fat side-characters". If Futoshi's thickly-stereotypical character need to stay that way, it better be part of some twist or something, anything that can put him above the "fatso"-trope. Please don't disappoint me, Franxx.

This is not a deep series like Gundam though. In it's core, it's an MC centric series. Probably closer to harem series rather than to Multiple MCs series like Bokurano. At most like Valvrave and has possiblity to recreate that horrible ending

I already said she was beyond koakuma.

Anyway, if we take just her interactions with Hiro she's very different to if we just take her interactions with the others. If we consider her words in the opening of ep 1 and how she clearly seems nervous/shy/afraid around Hiro at times in ep 4 then I think it's clear that she cares about Hiro at least. And this is a guy she barely knows. So it's not that she doesn't care but that it takes something special for her to care.

Personally I suspect she's had so many people die on her that she's become numb to it (or something along those lines). If she intrinsically didn't care about people then she wouldn't be like this. Well, Hiro certainly believes this at least.

I want to see Hiro kiss 02 on her horns...

It's too soon to make a judgement about 02 imho. If you paid attention she went nuts after Ichigo called her a monster. That indicates that she had a trauma in the past in relation to being called a monster. We don't know much about her yet. I wouldn't call her at this stage an evil main Heroine without having any knowledge about her past first. She clearly has some mental scares. And it's not like the other parasites are a bunch of good guys either, to be honest they are hypocrites. The only ones amongst them that I like so far are Goro, kokoro and Futoshi.

About Hiro seems like he's reacting differently compared to Mitsuru. As mentioned in the episode his blood acts differently from the other parasites. Looking forward to the next episode, seems like things are going to get serious from here on.

Ichigo really annoyed me this episode, I wish she could move on with her bossy and jealous attitude.

Just calling it ahead, I think the one we should pay attention to is Mitsuru, I don't like his attitude at all. he has an attitude of a backstabber mark my words.

If Hiro gets the opposite effect and that is a huge ass abnormal beyond understranding spike in yellow cells... than maybe the typical reaction was "huge yellow cells absorbtion". So those pills that Mitsuru takes are pills to help ballance out or produce more of the yellow cells in his blood stream, maybe after 3rides normal person is dried out of all yellow cells and the body cant hold it and the person dies.

I feel bad for Ichigo, she wanted to be mostly paired with Hiro who she had feelings for but ended up with Goro becouse she is compatibile with him, she mostly fell bad that she is not compatibile with Hiro, and that there is some other girl that is, yet she doesnt care for his well beign.

Goro on other hand is like between hammer and anvil, he is worried for Hiro's life but he wants to respect his decision... he would like to get closer with Ichigo but he knows that she has feelings for Hiro and he doesnt want to impose on her... he mostly feels like a 5th wheel

Next episode I am sure that Goro will burst and tell Ichigo about that blue parasite-skin on Hiro;s chest what will couse a synhro drop or synhro cut that will happen in the middle of the battle. Hiro maybe in order to save them from death will go full power with 02, that will couse the parasite to grow bigger and maybe at the end he will fell into coma or die (to get back to life later on). Ichigo and Goro will feel guilty of this

besides there is a tiny crack on 02 headband so I am sure that he going full power will have something to do with that, like she goes berserk and not responding so Hiro will use all of his power to stop her that might result in his own harm/death.
