It's not the little animation inconsistencies that bother me, rather, it's that I've had to wait until episode 8 to find out what her weapon is. After watching a few more segments, I've come to the conclusion that not showing Nora's weapon was intentional all along. They could have shown us her weapon, but chose not to.

All I see is her ribbon (which is also another inconsistency), which, earlier in the episode, you can see is clearly simply a ribbon. You can see how she holsters the weapon during the sequence when they are running across the bridge (and the image below), and it is simply not there when we see the back shot of the students on the launching pads. In the next episode, The First Step Part 2 there is one frame, during the sequence when Nora and Ren are fallling, where it looks like she might have it on her back, but in the same frame, they haven't animated her ribbon.

Now don't propose that her ribbon magically changes into her weapon. That's not the case. In episode 8, there are frames where we can see both Nora's weapon and her ribbon. For example, when landing off the Beast, you can clearly see that her weapon is completely separate from her ribbon, which, at that time, she is wearing.



There are more animation inconsistencies where Nora's ribbon disappears, but those just may due to lazy animators. The whole thing isn't such a big deal, and the animation inconsistencies don't really bother me, it's just that I was annoyed that we had to wait until episode 8 to find out what weapon (if any) Nora would use.

But now we know, I get giddy with delight every time she uses it. Those bullets with the heart insignia are just too much!

Not sure if Blake's bow twitching when she watched Ruby drop in from the sky counts as one though. Did anyone else catch that or was it just me?

I'm not sure what you're referring to, exactly, but I did notice her shaking her head after Ruby and Jaune disappeared into the tree. Not sure what that was about, but at times, she seems, well, not exactly clueless, but bewildered, perhaps. Like she's not used to being around other people, maybe. She was pretty clueless about Yang feeling proud about her baby sister when Ruby was leading everyone off to victory. Plus, asking Yang if her sister just fell out of the sky, when she just saw her fall out of the sky, seems to come from the department of redundancy department. She seems like a fish out of water when it comes to interpersonal interactions.

I second that emotion! I hope we get to see her in action again. It's hard to tell how old she is supposed to be (I'm guessing mid-thirties), but she is in incredible athletic shape, especially considering how she was dressed in episode one. Jumping around like a cat on a hot tin roof, and landing on her feet every time. Impressive! But most impressive of all is her skill set. No wonder Ruby wanted her autograph!

Regarding nora knocking blake off, it is careless of her but dropping from a height don't kill these people so it is not actually a big deal but i will be pissed if i were blake.

I think ruby did thought of the whole plan and told the others but we were just not shown for the sake of making that scene look cooler.

Exactly. If we had known what Ruby's plan was, we wouldn't have been so impressed (maybe).

That was probably meant to convey her finding it strange that all these people were suddenly popping up unusually. Like she couldn't believe her eyes. It wouldn't be every day that someone would fall off a giant bird only for them to collide with someone that had been thrown by a giant scorpion. If you were sitting around telling that story to people, they'd find it hard to believe.

Keep in mind that Ruby wasn't entirely dragging the crow up the cliff by her own strength. Weiss had set up those mystical circle thingies up the length of the cliff that I'd guess were acting as a means to help accelerate upwards.

I misquoted one of my earlier timings but never mind about that. Now I'm just curious where's the ribbon you're referring to. Not to start another pointless debate but I'm just asking since I really can't catch it. Is it on her weapon or her clothing?

Krecir's gif shows what I was talking about but I got it wrong again, meant to say it was another weird bit in animation.

Blake was bewildered alright, by the increasing ridiculousness of how each girl made their entrance. And to be fair the scene before was from Yang's perspective and Blake did catch up to what Yang was stopping for before they left.

It's not surprising that it isn't that obvious since it's so inconsistently animated. When we first see Nora in The First Step Part 1 she is wearing a large ribbon tied into a great big bow behind her back, with two long ribbon tails. You can clearly see it when she and Ren leave the locker, and you can see that she does not have her weapon holstered on her back. Around 6:30 in the same episode, there is a brief shot of the back of the students on the launching pads where you can also see the ribbon tied into a bow, but no weapon.

But, like I said, Nora's bow and ribbon are very inconsistently animated. Sometimes it's there, and sometimes not. Throughout episode 8, there are shots where you can see her weapon and either bow or the ribbon tails. In the image I posted, above, you can see her weapon and part of the bow. It clearly shows that they are, indeed, separate entities.
