I think that interpretation of "symbolic" is kind of stretching it. It's clear the other world exsist in some way or another, and has a physical impact on the real world, as evidenced by episode 2 and 3.

hmm, no. There are two worlds that affect each other. It's not just dreams, but actual events that have consequences on both worlds. The events will change radically depending of what happens on each world as we have seen in the last 2 episodes.

Symbolic means there is a deeper meaning. A symbolic gesture is not a gesture that doesn't exist; it's a gesture with a deeper meaning. Well Away, remember that the Others are supposed to take most of the pain a person suffers. It's possible Saya is so connected to Saw that she experiences the same pain without filtering, or at least other people's pain. Like when Kohata's Other is offed or when Kohata is trying to hide her pain

Watched episode one; wasn't very impressive, even with the Kanahana voicing.

No real attempt at a narrative, bizzare imagery, cute girls doing cute things, and random emo. Not very impressive. Hopefully, they'll have more of sexy Black Rock Shooter instead of boring slice of life thingys + some emo symbolism+ lame attempts at being sentimental.

Not really bad, but just really bland for a 1st episode. I expect more from you Okada!

She did excellent drama in True Tears, and while AnoHana was wonky and stupid in places the emotions were convincing. They were both original anime. In here, it's just dry and weak, with nothing connecting.

One of Okada's strong points in her writing has been consistency and logic. Even if I found many of her plot twists retarded, I could at least connect the dots. The narrative is just lacking here. Even Hana Saku Iroha was consistent, even if it was consistently dumb. And it was fun!

I think given the thin background for the story, and only 8 episodes, it would have been a disaster for any writer though. The music is really lacking as well.

I surely hope she doesn't become like the likes of Shin Oouma (Great stuff like Ef and then degenerate into doing things for trash like C3-- waste of talent)

Blame Thermae Romae for that, just a reminder. (It's supposed to be much more famous than most 4-koma manga series, and they got stuck in the noitaminA timeslot, causing the highly-feared BRS original series to suffer even more.)

It would actually be helpful if BRS wasn't in the noitaminA timeslot. This series might have stood on its own that way.

Then Kagari is basically 'threatening' (Well, what's the right word..) Yomi (Dead Master), so she would stay with her or something might happen. Then Yomi would be jealous of Yuu (Strength) and want to do something against her to get Mato. Then Yuu would go against Saya (BGS) just to save Mato. Then Saya is pretty much conspiring against BRS for some reason. Spoiler for A Random Saya Conspiracy Theory: Those scared people...Well, either they could mean that the world that BGS/BRS are in could mean that it's Kohachi's realm or it's Saya's realm. I mean, those people ARE pretty much visited by BGS, for some reason.. She could just probably try creating an enemy for BRS to fight, but I doubt that she would want to kill her right away.. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH MIND-**** IN THIS?

Spoiler: So, if I understood what I took from the episode, at first, it appeared that BRS didn't mind blasting all of BGS's "children", for better say of the term, to get a clean shot at the mistress herself. Like in the OVA, we might never be explained why does five players, especially BRS, have to fight. What is certain is that whatever happens to the characters in the other world affects our dear main cast in the real world. Take, for example, Saya prompting tears for poor Kohachi-san and pushing and more pushing on Kohachi-san that she was being pitied and mocked by her fellow classmates. Now, in the other world, BRS tries to reach the last surviving of BGS's children, but the latter trembles in fear of her. Still, BRS, insists to offer help, or so looked like one moment, but at the next she decapitates the child. However, moments before Kohachi in the real world was suffering an unexplainable, which seemed to have gone for good after BRS decapitated the child, and Saya truly sensed as if something very bad had happened. The other bad news I don't like how things are heading is that like in the OVA.... Spoiler: Yomi's starting giving off symptoms at being unappreciated by Mato as her friend, because the latter gets along so naturally well with Yuu; the two being like childhood friends, and Yomi feeling left out of the friends picture.

Spoiler: While before she was friendless until Mato, and then felt she was being replaced and left alone, now she knows only a twisted version of what friendship is. It's not so much of being replaced by Yuu, but being unable to have the same friendship those two have. Remember the part after Mato gives Yomi the gift, Yomi mutters that she isn't Mato's best friend. Of course, there's always the chance that Mato and Yomi end with more than friendship, but that's just wishful thinking.
